Old Friends – Part 2 – What Scorpio Can Do For You – Hints Around Saturn’s Transit Through Scorpio
More on my friendship with Ben as we head towards the Saturn return of our meeting – Catch up here – Part 1
I watch the Saturn cycle closely and I have for years. I like to see how history repeats and I specifically wanted to touch base with, Ben, in this regard since we’re completing a Saturn cycle at this time. We reminisced about when we met and our recollections match.
We agreed that we were both in a bad state when we met. We had good fortune to collide at this time as we were able to sustain each other. We were on the phone for two hours and we covered a lot of ground but one thing I was able to articulate was Ben’s ability to empower a person and what he does is not necessarily conscious.
I told him that it was during Saturn’s transit through Scorpio that he gave up all childish things. Saturn hit the top of his chart and eventually conjuncted his (10th house) Sun. People were dying of AIDS back then, in droves. Ben (a gay man) got very serious about his life and his purpose. He became a teacher at this time and we discussed this.
“Do you know that you stepped up and became an authority at the time and you have been busy since? I have called you for the last 26 years and you have been busy, every single minute of that time. You have worked seven days a week since the minute you became a teacher.” He laughed but agreed. “You already had everything you needed to do this. You had the knowledge and the talent. You always had authority but before this transit, you were scattered. You were working two jobs in two restaurants and you were also teaching the cello. Remember? You worked lunch and you worked dinner and you had cello students…”
“I remember.”
“Well, this is when you pulled it all together. You focused your effort on teaching and it’s been incredible to witness. You have not lost your focus in 26 years. Remember when 9/11 happened and everyone was freaked out? I called you and said, what are you going to do, Ben? What am I going to do, you said. I am going to get up in the morning and go to work! I am going to fix these kid’s bow grips and teach them to play, better than they do. God knows, they need all the help they can get!”
He laughed.
“Do you know how many people you have served in the last 26 years? Can you imagine how many lives you have touched? That’s something. When we met, you had your house full of gay men, night and day. They were high all the time, remember? They would come to your house, get high and stay all day. You didn’t like them very much/.”
“You were there for that?”
“Yes, I was there for that. They hated me.”
“Oh yeah, that’s right. What is SHE doing here?”
“Yeah, that’s how they were and you got mad as hell and started kicking them out of your house. This is Elsa! She is my honored guest! She is the only one I even want to be here. She’s the only one here, who I actually INVITED, and if you can’t treat her right, you’re going to have to leave yourself!” I said. “You used to say that to them.”
He laughed. ‘Well, that’s right. That was exactly the situation.”
“Well get this. How is this for a transformation? You quit drugs of all kinds. You didn’t like them anyway and you quit them completely at that time.”
“I did.”
“And you had all these men hanging around because of your charisma but after this transit, I flew to see you and what did I find? I found a slew of boys all hanging around your house. You had become a teacher and they all wanted your guidance. Do you remember?” He groaned. “We pulled up and there they were, waiting for you. I didn’t know what the hell. I had just flew in. I’d never seen you as a teacher, but you pulled in the garage and sprung into action, You went outside and started yelling at the boys. You boys get out of here! What are you doing hanging around me? What are you doing, sitting on the curb in the street? Go do something with your life! At least stand up like men! You’re not street urchins are you? Why are you sitting in the gutter? Are you rats? The gutter is for rats, not for young men who are going to do something with their lives, make something of themselves, you said! You had totally become your 10th house Sun and if you think about this, it’s mind-boggling how many people you have healed and empowered in the last 30 years.”
“Well I don’t know. I’d have to think about it.”
“Well I have thought about it and you have done this non-stop, seven days a week. You did it for me when we met and you don’t even know it. Want me to tell you how this works?”
“Yes.”
What do you do to empower others? Anything?

I don’t know how I empower others, but with Saturn about to cross my Ascendant, this is heartening news. I hope I can get it together like Ben did.
Ohhh! Tell us! Tell us!
[I feel a bit like one of those boys but hanging outside your stoop..."What comes next, Elsa? Tell us! Please?" lol... ;D]
I *think* I empower others by giving them a different or broader perspective on what is happening.
Plus, sometimes I see a lot of positives in a person’s life that they may not see themselves. So, I illustrate that.
I’m going to have to think about this more. Empowering people is important to me.
What is the difference between “empowering” and healing? To me, you can’t empower someone without healing the part that caused the disempowerment. Which can be accomplished, in some cases, just by kindness and personal attention by the right kind of person, like Ben.
That is one kind of empowering, sure, G7.
But I think there is also empowering as the catalyst to someone’s dormant or nascent, growing power as well. Those may not be wounded energies–just energies/abilities not yet recognized or not yet fully developed. Those would be different, don’t you think?
Good stuff Elsa. Love hearing about this and look forward to more. Got to love relationships like this.
I am condensing this but I want to say, the fact that Ben has sustained his level of focused effort for all these years is a stupefying accomplishment to me. The only other person I know who is like this is my husband.
Now, HQ and the Mechanic work very, very hard but they’ve not got 26 years in! I work hard myself but I have also not got 26 years in. My husband has switched focus as well so, Ben stands alone in the purity of this.
He teaches the kids, organizes the district, plays with 3 different symphony orchestras, plays in a trio, a quartet and duo as well, now and then.
He raised money for both the symphony and the trips the kids take to compete…AND he teaches privately which is something he has done for a solid 30 years.
The only other thing he does beside teach these kids to play, is he watches people’s dogs. That’s right. He runs around all the time to walk dogs for people when they’re on vacation and one more thing (which I mentioned to him last night).
He does every single thing he does in service. He is not after even a snippet of glory for himself…and in fact, when they try to glorify him, it’s like turning the lights on a cockroach, he runs for dark corner, instantly and does not come back out until they kill the lights.
He is an extraordinary man. IN-credible.
PS, he thinks everyone should do this by the way. Live their life to the absolute fullest. He simply can’t see why anyone would do anything but this. It baffles him, as do low people, running around spending their lives causing people pain and trouble.
I wish I was that guy.
Ben watches at least a dozen dogs a year. That’s a good friend.
And awhile back, someone he knows got into some trouble of their own making. They needed money (skipped on taxes) and, Ben gave them $6000 of his own hard-earned money. He doesn’t have much savings but he said he had known them 20 years and surely that was worth $6000. He was the only person to give them anything.
@CPG “there is also empowering as the catalyst to someone’s dormant or nascent, growing power as well.”
Yes, I’m looking for that “catalyst” now. There must be something out there that can spur me on.
“Yes, I’m looking for that “catalyst” now. There must be something out there that can spur me on.”
Or you could be the catalyst that spurs someone else on.
Great story. Food for thought, Elsa.
What a lovely story and thank you for sharing your self and your friendship with us Elsa. How very special you are.
That’s a lovely story. It’s stories like this that make me look forward to Saturn in Scorpio.
How I empower people is by sympathising and making them laugh at my own stupidity. My grand-trine in air just has to tell a joke or two. Sometimes life has to be laughed at. I was thinking about this yesterday and to be honest I don’t want the glory for it either. I just do what I do and carry on.
God you are a magnetic writer – I loved every word here – griping stuff – reading reading reading – fabulous!
I’m Sun in 10th, taught my parents, taught children, people, workshops, animal health, inspiration that sort of stuff, live by example I feel – from my relationships, my animals, my folk.
Hubbie Sun in 10th house as well, he teaches his customers how to run their offices better, he teaches them how to order products from him – when taking an order on the phone, he’ll teach the customer how to ask, how to code it, how to ask the questions. Great patience.
I’ve only been privy to your site for the past six months and have found much pleasure in your posts, but your autobiographical postings are special (could be argued that everything you post is autobiographical). Reminds me of when I was in grade school and couldn’t wait for the next Weekly Reader. Really enjoyed meeting your father through your words and photos, much as I’ve been allowed to meet your friend, Ben, now and in several postings in the recent past. You, Elsa, deserve praise-on-high for the totality of your work and gifts-of-giving to your public! I have found your elsaelsa.com a healing, nurturing place to be. Thanks…I truly appreciate your generosity to us cyberlings.
Whoa…this strikes a nerve. Saturn is about to cross my ASC… and I also have a 10th house sun and mercury…and the Saturn/Jupiter conjunction. I know I have a lot to live up to….I’ve always felt it deep inside. And although my journey has just begun (on a larger scale), I’ve been a mentor, teacher, conductor of good things and opportunities in people’s lives around me (friends and family) for a long time. I can see how my life’s journey has equiped me for this. I hope I don’t disappoint.
Thanks for this, Elsa. It also has me thinking of three individual Scorpios I know who have TOTALLY transformed since we were teenagers. Two in particular are now spiritual mentors to youngsters. The craziest part? These two hated eachother in high school and once got into a brutal fist fight. Their transformations have been a beautiful thing to watch.
I try to empower people by sharing my experience. I explain that if I can do things, so can they. I feel it’s very important to help people not to give up hope, and not to give up on themselves and their dreams.
I also try to empower people with information.
I have Mercury conjunct Ceres in Cap, exact

Nice! I am really excited to read your posts on Saturn in Scorpio. Like your friend Ben I am a 10th house Sun and I have Scorpio rising.
My midheaven is in Leo conjunct Venus. I empower others by inspiring them to stay true to their ideals and values. I inspire them to live with integrity.
