Memory

April 24th, 2012 @ 5:30 am by Elsa

Ask the collective.

Memory is very strange. My memory is notoriously poor but when someone reminds me of something, I can usually remember the thing, vividly.  Once reminded, I can often write the dialogue that was spoken that day, verbatim, even if 30 or more years have passed. This is my stupid-people-trick.

My husband is exactly the opposite. If he doesn’t remember something, all efforts to get him to recall the thing, fail across the board.  If you try to remind him or something he did or said, he’ll admit it sounds plausible, but he still can’t access the memory. Not in the present moment and not over time either.
I think both our conditions are extreme but I’m not sure.

How is your memory? Where is your Mercury.

sometimes it’s picture perfect and I can remember environments or words of a book in detail, but I can’t remember a damn thing that I said or did yesterday.

However oddly enough I remember where everything is and what it’s for in my room, and it looks like a tornado went through a couple of times

my memory is very good, i can remember things in great detail…images, emotions, dialogue. but i’m a double cancer so…i consciously try not to dwell on the past too much actually, unless i feel like reminiscing.

My memory is very sharp, and I’m also very sure of myself which can become a problem when I’m wrong (and unaware of it) but I keep pushing people into believing me. Happens rarely but it upsets people. And I can understand why.

Scorpio Mercury in the 3rd. It makes a lot of aspects.

My memory leaks. Mercury is in Pisces. I know it sometimes drives my friends and family nuts, but they have learned to deal. I take a lot of notes. ;-)

People with Cancer in them tend to have great memories. I have a Cancer moon and I do remember things from the past that others do not, but my Mercury is in Aries trine Uranus, so if it wasn’t stand out, I won’t remember. I’m not into details, so I remember concepts more than details.

Mercury in Cancer, conjunct Sun, square Pluto, trine Uranus, sextile Saturn…
I have quite the emotional memory, and I delve into them sometimes, getting way too caught up in the past.

I wish I could remember old conversations like that, because I have been in some very interesting ones and I wish I could preserve the weirdness!

Mercury in Gemini – 12th house
Makes lots of aspects: Uranus, Moon, Saturn, and Midheaven.

My memory is spooky. When others memories have failed, mine can always step up to the plate. The Saturn opposition and Sextile to my Aries moon (hopefully) makes my memory somewhat objective.

Faces, names, colors, sights, sounds, smells… all like they’re happening realtime. I’ve got a lot of cancer, and a pisces midheaven… so I get nostalgic frequently. My memory is so vivid, that I can very easily get transported back to old times… and I feel them. Sometimes it’s really painful.

My mercury is in detriment sextiled by Neptune, let me tell you how I remember things. No never mind you wouldn’t believe it anyway.

I’m old, and my memory is fading in some regions, sharper and as deep or deeper in others. Used to be I remembered everything. Mercury shares my 10th H with Sun and Chiron and MC … I’m seeing this as Chiron healing the wounds over time with selective forgetting:)

My memory needs prompting to change tracks but once it does it’s there stored away most of the time.. that is if the memory held an emotional element to me. I have merc in scorp in the 1st trining jupiter in pisces and saturn in cancer. It’s my saving grace. I’ve had to learn though that in the moment of shifting gears, I am not stupid and to try not to say something career changing like “Omg I don’t know how to do this”. It’s not true.. I just need prompting or a few minutes to refocus. A few words from someone and i’m on the new track most of the time. Or visual. I often need to write things down to be able to remember them. Moon in gemini as well. I used to study by simply copying all of my notes.. and then creating a few categories to memorize. It usually was all I needed.

I suppose my memories can also be super blissful or super aweful from my perspective and depending where I’m at – merc trining jupiter and saturn.

It’s in detriment conjunct the South node. Memory used to be really sharp, I too could remember conversations from years ago word for word. Now not so much, there’s been a dissolving. But a deepening too. Memories come up from other places; I don’t always know now what’s a waking memory.

I don’t trust my memory. They have been things that I was dead nuts sure about and I was flat out wrong. Mercury in the 12th house.

Hahah I love this question! I’m usually like a sieve, very space cadet except in two specific cases a) my moon in 12th gives me very good emotional recall, the emotions just come from nowhere, sometimes at inappropriate times, or b) something clicks and my memory just fires out tidbits due to Uranus-Mercury. Very very odd. I have very good memory except when I need to use it for myself…

That’s some OLD memory.

/couldn’t resist commenting on the pic. It made me smile.

Kind of the difference between a harddrive which takes a long time to fail and the system memory you have pictured up above. Plug that into any computer and it’s not going to have anything on it. Plug in a harddrive and you can read the memories. :D

Mercury in cancer. Conjunct Venus & Saturn, trine Jupiter & Uranus, square Pluto, semisextile sun, semisquare mars, & inconjunct Neptune. I have a photographic memory but I also remember music, lyrics & dialogue. I don’t like the music thing because it’s unsettling to ‘find things’ in my head and have no idea how they came to be there. For example: I was born in the 70′s & I’m assuming that’s how I know the lyrics & musical inflection of most of the songs played in this country from that decade to this one. Including the entire Wings catalog ;) Despite the fact that my parents aren’t music people. Most of the music is awful top 40′s crap that seems to be archived in my mind. I try to be aware of background stuff, even for people who don’t remember all of it; it’s intrusive and not always benign.
