Making Astrology Personal

Wherever I am, there’s always Pooh,
There’s always Pooh and Me.
Whatever I do, he wants to do,
“Where are you going today?” says Pooh:
“Well, that’s very odd ‘cos I was too.
Let’s go together,” says Pooh, says he.
“Let’s go together,” says Pooh.
–A. A. Milne

Astrology can tell you many things. It can tell you what energy is available to an individual and how it’s likely to affect them. It cannot, however, tell you precisely how they will express it. Given the fact that each person has free will a person can express that energy on a continuum of lower to higher. The best predictor for that variable is its past expression, but even that is fallible. I think that is a good thing. What that means to me is that we can learn and grow and improve. The possibility is there. We are not preprogrammed automatons. We are dynamic individuals.

As I said, one of the greatest predictors for future expression is past expression. One factor that affects free will is personal experience. Over time we are affected by outside influences and ingrained patterns that shape our reactions and behavior. If you pay specific attention you can suss out your own general patterns at which point you can either improve on them or change them entirely (with work) if you choose to.

For instance, personally I’ve figured out some patterns in regard to my emotional state and the transit of the Moon. Looking solely at my chart and applying general knowledge of astrology, one would expect that I would have particular emotional challenges when the Moon squares my Moon. However, given the fact that the people that are around me are having GOOD Moon days at that time, I don’t find that to be the case at all! I’ve discovered a set of personal patterns during Moon transits that wouldn’t be obvious to someone who was only looking at my chart. There are also ingrained patterns from past experiences that wouldn’t be obvious from my natal chart alone.

You are your own best astrological detective particularly when it comes to emotion, mood and the Moon as emotions are so highly subjective. One great way to access this wealth of information is to take some time to track your emotional state in regard to transits. Take the time to jot down the day’s transits when you’re feeling lousy (or great!) and over time you will also likely see some patterns emerge. These observations will allow you to see what energy is affecting you so keenly and direct you toward making things better for yourself. At the very least you can find some relief in the fact that they will no longer sneak up and ambush you!

Is there a certain transit that you know sets you off? Can you pinpoint why?

Wow, that’s kind of scary. I’m having a hard time with the retro dance that mars is doing in Virgo right now. Jupiter and mercury are in Virgo natally for me, the sun and pluto are in the last degrees of Leo. In addition to this, the moon and my retrograde mars are in Pisces, opposed to jupiter and mercury. I recognize this energy, I’ve felt it before, and disliked it then. The only date that I could truly remember and identify feeling this way–well guess what, mars was in Virgo then too. It’s this jangly, crawling out of my skin type of energy.
How long till he leaves Virgo?

Moon conjunct Neptune and Moon conjunct Saturn. When I first started studying astrology I was confused when everyone would talk about how the Moon in Sag was bouyant and time for parties while moon in Gemini was chatty and playful time. I am usually overly sensitive during a Sag moon because that is where my Neptune is. So, chances are I’m wandering around with the world on my shoulders and my feelings hurt. And then I get depressed b/c it moves from my Neptune into an opposition with Saturn in Gemini. Same thing happens with moon in Gemini, I’m confused then depressed as the moon opposes Neptune and conjuncts Saturn. I’m anything but chatty.

@ruth… Retro until April 13th, then finally leaves on July the 3rd, I think =) Then, we’ll all get to run around Libra style & wonder if we’ve made the right moves!

I have a rough time with Pisces & Capricorn Moons. Nothing much can be done about it, but at least I know what to expect ;)

Couldn’t agree more Satori!

Studying your own transit patterns is the best way to learn and it’s great that we’re sharing our experiences here so we can all learn from one another’s astrological patterns.

I’ve been sick all day, so a little late, but McKenna, thanks. July 3, seems far away, but I can survive till then I think. I do know that while in retro, the energy is a little less jangly than it was direct. Or, maybe he’s just worn me down, so I am less reactive.
