wish i could go thru the day blindfold to help get in tune.. hmm i might try it out, just not while i’m driving!

Today was great in that I was pulled into a meeting with another employee that had stated that she felt intimidated by me. It was great to get everything on the table – there was a delicate situation a few months ago in which I had to act as the voice of higher-ups to her, and she has interpreted every communication by me since then as hostile, even though I was trying to handle her with kid gloves all along! Too bad it wasn’t information she wanted to hear… Her reactions to any of my communications since then were argumentative and defensive, whether it was payroll stuff or whatever.

It became evident in this meeting with another administrator that I had been acting appropriately all along, and I was genuinely sorry that policy changes enacted from on high months ago had been interpreted as my singling her out and persecuting her. Unbelievable. I really felt sorry for her, as she had internalized this and had been agonizing about it.

I’m glad the air was cleared, and now I know she is a special snowflake who needs to be spared any situational change lest her little bubble be burst. Better yet, the people who matter know it.
