Fashion Accidents And The Astrology Behind Them by Annalisa
Astrology and Style
Over the years I’ve seen many fashion accidents and they can be avoided by a bit of self searching, some knowledge of your chart and a bit of education. The first accidents can come about when one’s Sun is badly aspected by planets such as Venus and Mars when we love or crave something to wear that is just not right for us or we dress for someone else we are seeking to attract or to please. Accidents of the Sun are things like too tight clothing to “please your S.O,” for example. Tight jeans, leggings and tight T’s are not meant to be worn together no matter what your weight! The look is that of a sausage that is stuffed into one’s clothing and no one has the body or call to dress in this fashion.
If you are wearing a low cut or tight top try pairing it with a looser pant or skirt that will balance the look and direct the eye to where it needs to go. Never flatter a bust that is in bad shape, of course, and don’t wear skinny jeans or leggings if you carry some weight on your thighs without wearing an oversized top or tunic with them. Tights, leggings and skinny jeans can look fine on someone without a perfect body if you shop for oversized sweaters and tunics that cover your hips and hit below the butt to give you a cuter look that does not scream “sausage!” This look of too tight clothing is also favored by those with overactive Mars and Pluto as well as those who have misguided Leo and Scorpio.
At times, even fashion knowledgeable Libra will make a mistake and dress for a partner that they feel only responds to extreme eye candy. This is not to say that I dislike all tighter clothing; it is to say that the tight part of your clothing should be on your calves, or any place below the knee and off your stomach unless you have a “six pack” and even then it can be rude! I’ve met some great women who turn people away with tight dressing when they are really great people whom you would want to know and just have a self image that is suffering and who feel they need to be tight to attract! If you have to strain to get it on, zipped or buttoned it is too tight and you need a larger size. The same goes for clothing you can’t sit down in without straining it and have to worry about ripping seams! If you can see the outline of your panties you have it too tight and if you can see the shape of your bra from behind because the back is too tight, it’s too tight. I like the look of transparency with a bit of a lovely bra peaking through but make sure the bra fits and so does the top.
The signs Aries, Sagittarius and Taurus sometimes make a habit of dressing a bit too shabby. To be comfortable they trade fashion and say they don’t care about clothing. This is simply not true, they do care about fashion because they care about the color of that old shabby top or the feel of those old worn out jeans that don’t fit. You can get fabric that feels wonderful in your size and have the comfort of it all without going sloppy and wearing your father, husband’s, boyfriend’s, or brother’s pants! Find pants that have plenty of room in the thighs for example and look for baggy waists that need to be cinched but have plenty of room in the butt.
If you love your tops comfortable, try wearing a better grade of cotton and buying the top in your size or one that is cut to wear oversized and fits in the shoulders while being a correct length. It may be cute to wear those men’s jeans when we are in college and don’t care but any grown up should have their own fitting clothing and go for comfort in different ways. One who wants to have less clothing touching the body can opt for a dress, for example, that fits but has a full skirt and blousy top. There are shirt dresses that have plenty of room too that are made of great quality cotton which are comfy and easy to move in. Some of the full skirts from the forties, for example, made of cotton, will work for you too if you want your body free to move. If you are one of those that has a badly aspected rising and need to feel comfortable to the point of sloppy dressing you might also try a long skirt in a fabric such as jersey which can look great on the body when it fits yet feel like silk against your skin and you can wear them with cropped tops that don’t squeeze your waist and make you feel uncomfortable.
If you are a comfort dresser you can look for separates that give room but look pulled together and are of the correct fabric. Try a silk and cotton mix if you like comfort, or high grade cotton. There are lines that carry separates made from these fabrics that have pants that are cut to be roomy enough to move and shirts that are either cropped or tunic length to go with the bottoms which are perfect for you and can be found in flattering colors or black if you love black and wear it most of the time. Remember to match your black separates and mismatching blacks is a common accident for those with active Pluto or Scorpio that is malfunctioning. Often a person will favor black when Scorpio or Pluto is prominent in the chart, and this look is fab but your blacks have to match and there are many shades of black. If you aren’t buying from the same dye lot go ahead and bring your black with you to make sure what you are buying will match the black you already have. The exception to this is to wear a dark wash jean that fits you well and not too tight and pair it with black shirts, blouses, T’s and other tops.
For Virgo, Taurus, Aries and some Sagittarius, no makeup is a mistake that is often made. Sure, you can hate makeup and hate the look of it but still wear a minimum of makeup that flatters you and brings your face into “well dressed” and away from “messy.” Use minimal makeup in the fashion of wearing only a dusting of powder on your skin or a swipe of tinted foundation to even out your skin tone and get rid of shine. No one with a darker skin looks good with shine and most lighter skin isn’t at its best with shine so get used to a light and natural mineral powder that is good for protecting skin while making it matte.
Go for sheer with the brush when you apply it and use a very large brush while taking very large strokes over your whole face. Go ahead and darken your eyebrows a bit to bring forth your eyes if you don’t want to wear mascara or wear mascara in one coat to bring out your eyes. If you hate mascara think about curling your eyelashes to open your eyes and give them an “awake’ look. Stay in the brown family in mascara if you hate eye makeup and have light skin. Finish a natural face with a dot of cream blush or a swipe of powder blush in a subtle pink tone or a brown that simulates a tan.
You can wear lip treatment and forget about lipstick if you hate the look of lipstick and give the impression of finished lips in this way. Make sure you care for your lips by brushing them or exfoliating them in some way so they don’t look full of lines that are aging and very unattractive. Bare skin can be fine if you have great skin but most of us don’t so when going out remember to show even skin. Bare eyes can be fine if you have dark eyes but clean up your brow line and if you don’t know how to do it go to “YouTube” and watch a video on how to shape them or have them done once professionally and follow the line that they recommend. Never pluck your brows too much and try to get a natural brow shape that has an arch you can see and a neat inside and outside line that stops and doesn’t keep going. Of course, avoid the “uni-brow” at all costs even if you have to learn to use eyebrow wax which is really easy to use if you buy the right one. For examples of easy wax to use just post to me and I’ll give you a brand!
Lastly, if you lean toward the above, you most likely don’t want to deal with your hair and that can be a problem and greatly hurt your look. To make hair easy and have it look nice remember to have trims every six weeks if your hair is short and every two months if it is long. Go for a shape for your hair and have layers put in long hair that are even and interesting if you like to dry your hair naturally and go. You can manage curly hair very easily if you have it cut to go with your curl and use some product on it when it is still damp. Most product works best when hair is still a bit wet but not too wet as to slide off the hair strand. Apply your hair product in the form of gel, cream or wax and style your hair the way you like it. After styling your hair wet let it dry on its own like you prefer and you will have nice hair without much to do.
If you have really curly hair have it shaped and then apply a treatment cream to your hair followed by a holding gel and let it dry that way giving you well conditioned hair with a tame look and a good shape. If your hair is thin and you hate bothering with it have it cut to the chin line or shorter for body and use a light gel product on it to get a style that is pulled together and has some shape. Try not to let your hair just grow out of a style you hate and have it trimmed from time to time to clean it up and even up layers as it grows out. If you have regular trims while growing your hair you avoid having “wings” and hair that looks messy as it grows. Hair grows about an inch every four weeks if it is in good shape, so having the ends trimmed won’t hurt your project or slow it down.

Awesome!
Thanks, Annalisa.
I’m hitting the mall this weekend. For makeup I’m hitting the M.A.C. counter, and Bare Minerals store.
For shiny hair try Moroccan Oil … Someone here recommend it and – damn! – it’s goooood.
Which makeup brands do you use? I love Bobbi Brown and the new Burberry line. Their products are such that you can build on them. For mascara I am a Maybelline girl! I enjoy wearing makeup especially when it does not appear that I have any on. It’s sort of like the illusion that I look great without even trying, lol.
Man this is so good!!:)
lioness, I agree with you on Bobbi Brown and you can’t go wrong with her color palette and choices for natural make up. I like Mineral make up because it’s good for your skin, natural and lets your skin breath while giving you a great matte finish with an SPF. The colors are do-able and you can apply it easily. I like the original Bare Minerals brand and again, find it a great new product.
For mascara I like Lancome even though it is pricey because it stays on well and has all sorts of formulas for every kind of problem.
Concealer is excellent from Lancome in the waterproof tube that stays on and looks natural.
Nars for blush is great and for primers if you want to wear your face plain, I like Smashbox because they have great oil control for a matte finish and a great highlight primer for light if you want that.
Finally, I like Lipstick Queen for a go to lipstick product or gloss that is modern in formula and look!
Thanks for posting!
I noticed Aries is mentioned here a lot
As a double Aries and Taurus Venus, I’ve made A LOT of mistakes in fashion. I am certainly guilty of “laziness” due to this Grab-and-go kind of Aries lifestyle.
I wear a whole lot of skinny jeans and slim pants due to comfort and I find that loose flowy tunics or flattering sweater tunics/dresses work. And not to mention, comfortable shoes are also essential. I lucked out being a leggy (but short and thick-waisted) Aries so I can pull this look off well.
With makeup, I highly recommend BOING! concealer from Benefit! If there’s only one thing I would wear, it is THAT. That and dark brown eyeliner
Oh and before I forget… LONG CARDIGANS for comfort… It feels like a blanket
It’s fantastic!
As a Virgo I have no problem, seven polo shirts, seven slacks, 1 pair of shoes….Easy, change out wardrobe every three years.
I’m Libra Sun with Aquarius Rising and I find myself attracted to all kinds of funky things that I know I can’t pull off with my Libra-ness. (I also look very Libra — classic, approachable elegance.) It’s always been a sadness of mine that I can’t do things like dye a blue streak in my hair and pull it off. My Aquarius Ascendant wants that soooooooo much!!!! My Libra self, though? Just can’t make it work. I’m pleased, though, because my daughter is an Aquarius, and she is still young enough for me to dress her, so I get to put her in the funky stuff and she rocks it! It totally fits her personality!!
interesting post. I can see how most of the signs you’ve mentioned don’t care about clothing or makeup, but most of the Taurus girls I’ve known have been really into their looks. They wore stylish clothes and makeup, loved dancing, and often talked about what other people looked like. They must have been the venusian Taureans.
That can be true, Annie! One great connection in the Venus signs or house can bring about fashion knowledge and a love of luxury. For example, Barbra Streisand…(sp.)
Thanks for that!
Another Virgo here.
@Virgo Avenger-I often buy multiples of tops and pants.
And, yes, Annalisa, I mostly go without makeup, but I did have a green (food coloring) mohawk for a rock’n'roll band camp recently.
silverheels,
Any Virgo that will wear a green mohawk, no matter how temporary, I have to salute. Bravo, let your hair down, or UP, I should say! I hope you have photos of this dream look!
lol Virgo Avenger: One thing I noticed about a lot of Virgos I know is that they are drawn to having a “uniform.” It seems that they have a system in their clothing. One of my best friends (male) wears the same cut of shirt and jeans but different variations in colours and fabric (usually muted or neutrals).
But yeah…. 7 shirts and 7 pants would drive me insane too. Eeeks!
Hi Annalisa,
Thanks for another great read & all the information you give us. I missed posting about Pisces looks at the time you put it up, so I just wanted to sat you are SOOOO spot on (ok, so you have “insider information” but still!) My wardrobe does not make sense to anyone at all- except my Pisces sister =) I love wearing a different look every single day & what you have said is true- I become what I wear. It can really make an anticipated crap day bearable. & YES! I have days where I’ll crack out the true red lipstick, because I want Pay Attention! to precede what I’m saying… it’s like a quick slap. (my boyfriend used to pick up on this & say he’d stay on my good side on red lipped days =)
Anyway, thanks again! I really look forward to your next installment.
Thanks, McKenna, for your post and I’m happy you can relate! Yes, becoming what you wear is much fun, isn’t it?
Great post Annalisa.
Like your new photo Annalisa and as always love the fashion sense and tips. Time for this Libra to do a little more shopping…MAC lipstick, Nars eyeshadow, etc.
Those products sound great, Patrice! MAC has so many colors of lipstick, what are some of your favotite? Thanks!
“And to everyone, what are some of the fashion accidents you have seen?”
I don’t know about the US but here in the UK leggings are IN. Which is not such a good thing as a lot of the people that wear them tend to team them with short shirts. So everywhere you look, yes.. there is another crotch!
ha ha, GW. I LOVE the fashion forward reality in the UK so much! However, those short shorts with leggings sound like an accident, without question! Thank you for the update about the UK. Here in the US you don’t see a lot of that unless you are in the larger cities and are out at night. The “skinny jean” with the tight T tends to hang on here for the younger crowd and they don’t realize how damaging that look can be on the eyes when they are stuffed into them! I worked with a nurse yesterday that came to work in shredded skinny jeans and a tight and low cut jean to WORK!
That’s the US and their idea of sportswear!
Thanks, GW
So…what IS a good brand of wax to use anyway? I can never get the waxing right =/
Also, love love love this article! I do fashion, so I cant tell you how wonderfully useful this is to me!
danielle, Surgi Wax is a good brand that is easy to use. Use wax that you can put in the mircowave that hardens all the way so you can control it and pull it off with your fingers easily! For brow shapes check out YouTube. Best of luck!
Lovely! Thank you Annalisa!
as a virgo, I can say from experience that if I think my makeup is probably a little too overdone, then it’s just about right for a professional look. I’m afraid of looking harsh and vain, so I’ve always avoided much makeup until I realized “hey, I’m an adult”.
I would wear a mohawk if I could get away with it, though…heh. Maybe I am an unrealized fashion disaster.
One of the major fashion problems I’ve noticed is people wearing colors that don’t suit them.
Oh, didn’t mention it, but I love the post! Thank you so much, Annalisa!
-from Beth who is wearing mismatched blacks as we speak.
I have a Venus/Mars/Sun conjunction in Aries opposite Pluto. The look is “striking”. I hate pale colours and beige. I’ve drifted into goth territory at different times in my life. I can pull off androgynous hair and clothing.
Oh, and I love all shades of RED!
Moroccan oil must be all the rage now. I had 2 people tell me about it this weekend and now here too. But I have fine hair so I’m guessing it won’t work for me.
Love the post, very accurate and helpful, thanks
I never knew one was to exfoliate one’s lips! I’m only in my 20′s and yes yes, I DO notice vertical lines everywhere! Oh fashion guru, please advise!
I like the new mascara wand Maybelline has…called lots of lashes and it really pulls out the tiny ones and coats them. I had pretty much given up on this brand for the clumping.
Any ideas for a good grey liner? I like Rimmels Hurricane Grey but it seems like they’re either charcoal and darker than I want or they’re light silver and look like I’m trying to be David Bowie…
Wow, annalisa, you pretty much covered fashion “A to Z” in this post!
Re: Curly Hair “You can manage curly hair very easily if you have it cut to go with your curl and use some product on it when it is still damp. After styling your hair wet let it dry on its own like you prefer and you will have nice hair without much to do.”
I agree; I have long, curly hair, and no one believes me that it is truly wash-and-go zero maintenance hair. The only time I have to blow dry it is due to time constraints.
Re: Make-up – Lauren Hutton, the famous super-model of the ’70s and ’80s (actually she is still working today) has a full make-up line gear specifically to a natural look for women OVER 35. Her concealer is the best for older skin and I’ve had good luck with several of her products, which I’ve used since my late ’30s.
Brizo, try Make up Forever and Lancome for colored liner for eyes. Also, MAC usually has most eye liner colors as well. Good luck!
Wow You are spot on about Aries Annalisa – I face all those ‘problems’ from time to time — too much to do too little time and energy (or patience)
okay…leo moon…totally guilty of the too tight shirts occasionally. I’m curious since my sun is aquarius…what fashion faux pas do aquarians make?
Annalisa it’s so true about sadge! Having two older brothers I definitely have “borrowed” their clothes once or twice. Not to mention my boyfriend’s shirts here or there- just tie it in a knot in the back to make it more form fitting and I’m good to go! I know I have it in me to dress more feminine….sigh…. i need to channel my capricorn venus….
