Yup, this is what is at play here for me. Last year, I had to replace the clutch in my car. Almost $1000. 3 months later, it acted up in stop and go traffic, and when I took it into my mechanic, he told me there was nothing wrong with it, but said if it proved to be faulty, “you know, I stand behind my work and will take care of it”. Now, a year later, it’s acting up again. This time I’m told, ” maybe I should take you out and give you a lesson on how to drive a manual”. I’ve been driving clutches for 33 years straight, have averaged 60-80,000 miles per clutch, and that is here in SF with all the hills. Again, he can’t find anything wrong with it by looking at it, but can’t find the time to drive it. Also, his willingness to stand behind his work, now translates out to his willingness to eat the cost of the clutch, but I have to pay for the labor. The transmission has to be dropped to replace a clutch, the major part of the cost is the labor. I’m not looking forward to going over there this morning!
