Trends in the Collective

October 22nd, 2011 @ 1:01 pm by Elsa

Astrology in real life.

Trend-watching is one of my areas of interest.  I’ve got a whole section for this is on the blog though I don’t write as much about it as I used to.  One of the things that throws me is I have a lot of contact and interaction with the people on this blog but I don’t think they are representative of the collective as far as the United States goes.  For one thing there is an international audience here but besides that, people who are interested in astrology tend to be liberal-minded so it skews things.

As for my beliefs and/or my perceptions of where I feel we’re headed, I believe I am in the solid majority of the people in this country  at this point, but in the small minority on this blog. I find this queer and crazy-making but I also think it’s marvelous because it adds wrinkles and extra layers to things.  When I was a kid, I always liked the view inside a kaleidoscope and this is a bit like that.  Saturn Neptune = skewed reality.  This is strong in my chart.

So anyway, people express themselves here and I am glad they do. They voice their opinions and make predictions which often seem to defy all logic as far as I can see.  I just think it’s off.

Most would agree that media is slanted so where you read is of upmost impotance.  How you read is just as important but even if I read media slanted one way and you read media slanted another way, and we’re both influenced, there are ways to check reality.

When thinking about things like this (where our country is headed), what is your process?  Do you have sources of information that you accept as legitimate?  Do you come up with your opinions based on conversations with friends or family?  Is it your gut talkin’, your imagination or your wishful thinking?  Do you have a way to validate your claims?

I am asking because I would like to bring the picture shown into clearer focus if possible. Thanks!

“I am asking because I would like to bring the picture shown into clearer focus if possible.”

The focus of the picture above is like a jewellers glass, you can look into the jewels themselves and grade their quality.
But to see the whole thing, you must step back. Look through a large magnifying glass to get the whole concept. Then step back and use your own eyes.
Trust your first feeling. Is it as a whole beautiful? Are there parts of the design that need to be redone? Are some of the jewels not of great quality but represent the named jewel well?
Does it need more or a brighter light to bring out the facets?
Is all it needs is light?

My process is to get as many viewpoints as I can assimilate and let it sit.I talk with friends both conservative and liberal.

Historically, I resonate more with liberal viewpoints, but I am finding both sides very irritating and skewed anymore.

I have, for the most part, stopped following the news, but will occasionally check in with NPR, NYTimes, WSJ, The Economist and TheStreet. I used to watch the The McLaughlin Group and McNeil-Lehrer news.

It is not easy to get unbiased journalism. We are affected by forces more powerful than we are aware of. Of course, whoever has the means, is going to run the show. How else could it be?

anita, so what are you saying? It’s not possible to discern trends in the collective because we are all controlled or driven by some force we don’t know about? Or maybe the force is, people with means?

What is the trend you see then? Powerlessness of the people?

Well, if we are unaware, then yes, we are controlled by a force we don’t know about. And I am not sure how to become aware, unless to listen to as many viewpoints as possible, and then decide. But then there is the problem of discerning between truth and manipulation. And that’s where the “trust your gut” comes in. So we get back to whether we can trust our own perception.

I don’t see a trend of powerlessness for the people. Not at all. I’m not sure where it is going.

I guess the last paragraph of my first post was vague. It is only logical to me that if money is supporting something, it would be for the bias of whoever is providing the funding.

Otherwise, what’s the point?

I would liken today similar to pre-revolution in France.
The people are driven by anger, jeolousy and mob contagion. The people are repeating history with 200 years since the last time.Lots of t-squares and cosmic crosses since then.
They want to blame something but today if they stormed the castle, there are now better methods of crowd control so the king and queen are not decapitated.
The people are out of control, and ready to be pushed in a direction, but not where the people are aiming.
I would not predict anything right now, though the feeling is prevailing weather will be bad.

I use my intuition and observation to make my calls. For example, I have always hated malls and the crap they sell. There really is no craftsmanship to speak of. I have always had the sense that our consumerism of crap would not last. I think the GFC will assist whip out useless, poor quality goods AND services and I’m already seeing this trend where I live.

I don’t quite get all of the protesting. I don’t think it will impact the current markets. Perhaps people will go cash only and hide gold coins under their mattresses. The same folks protesting probably have huge credit card debit, school loans and a crappy mortgage they can’t afford. We’re all really in this together, although we’re not drivin’ the bus.

I know I shouldn’t have posted today. I am so sick of politics. (I get emotionally entangled, and it’s fear-based, in anger.)

On this blog, I’ve read many posts, both views (I’m simplifying here with liberal/conservative) and I agree with everyone. Really. I would be lost without Elsa’s views. I need to hear.

Things are not simple.

I trust my gut. I had great training in critical thinking and can usually pick out both sides of any biased piece (what is bias, what is truth-nugget, what the other side is likely to think).

But the truth is I’ve been out of the loop, voluntarily, for years now. Keeping up with all of this didn’t make me happy. I was informed, and I was miserable.

I’d rather be blissfully ignorant and I’m fully aware that I’m being an ostrich. *smiles*

I frequent bars a lot and, in my experience, you get more truth at a bar then you will ever get at an exit poll.

Mostly for me it’s feeling. I tend to know stuff before it’s invented or becomes a trend (like bank cards). Not so much lately because my own life is being remade and my focus is on me and my kids.

I watch the news, listen to talk radio. I go online and see what different astrologers, psychics, etc. say about things.

In the end, it’s always what I feel. If I’m going against the majority, I’m probably right.

I’ve really been made aware just how corrupt our government is since the last election. They didn’t even hide it.

I feel very unsettled and am waiting for the next large shoe to drop.

I was 12 when I first laid out, complete with graphics, where we were headed. No-one was listening to the 12-year old. Things are pretty much the way I thought they would go. My attitude, besides trying to do as much good as one little person can in what areas I have any influence, is that the majority chooses this shit pile. And so we live in the shit pile. I’m not being nihilistic. I’m trying hard to be realistic. Having been media, I take media with a grain of salt. When I read something, it adds to my knowledge of people.

Most of the time I wonder what I’m doing here. I’d rather be a goddess with huge powers to make things right. However, I’m guessing my idea of setting things right may not float with others’ ideas of such. A circular thought process, as you see.

I can’t help thinking the overriding trend is an over concern with the self and a denial of any consequences and denial of a interconnection with the world.

Extreme ideas are being passed around as solutions from the right and the left. The truth is the economy was working just fine 50 years ago in this country. FDR and Congress left some really smart structural things in place to prevent this mess and all were removed.

Some are also advocating the idea of combining church and state, including here in the US. I’m scared of the Arab Spring being subjugated by this movement. I have no problem with believing in a higher power. I unnerved by the possibility of combining the “sword and the cross” again.

OK I’ll stop ranting.

i have very few media sources i consider legit – to me legit means i have to wade through less BS than the others.

there is a book i read recently called THE RATIONAL OPTIMIST by matt ridley that i thought had some interesting ideas. i don’t think he can predict the future, but it was helpful to counteract my left-leaning doom-and-gloom biases.

when i try to sense what’s going on, i look to the people i’m close to. then i also look to the different demographics in my city. in particular i am fascinated by immigrant communities and how they change (and change america) over the years. i am also fascinated by children and how they experience this.

I read liberal media, but I also try to listen to political discussions both on TV and radio, talk to people on here, talk to older people to find out what it used to be like so I can have an idea for what I think it will be, and then I try to mix all that stuff together to make a perspective for myself.

I read Eric Francis at Planet Waves.com who is a Journalist and Astrologer and very articulate and astute re world events. Of course he has his own opinions.. as do we all…but I appreciate the Astrology he puts our re current goings on.

I also love Jon Stewarts (news show comedy) ability to poke fun at the B.S that goes on in the name of news. He helps keep things in perspective.

Otherwise I am like some who say they avoid too much mainstream drivel. Just enough to keep abreast but not enough to become brain dead.

I am curious Elsa… re when you say you are with the majority. What do you see them as saying/thinking?

I read and listen to a lot of history so I definitely see parallels in current events with historical cycles and events.

I see all politics as responses to the planetary forces, especially the obvious ones, Pluto/Cap and Uranus/Aries and US astrological chart. I see the media as expressing these same cosmic forces, but unconsciously and without any knowledge or awareness. They are caught in the big cosmic movements and have no idea at all that they are.

The long established two party system in the US is a big part of the Pluto-Capricorn dismantling and undoing going on. Liberal and Conservative are the status quo structure (Cap) that Pluto is exposing as corrupt, false, dysfunctional, and in need to radical change.

So to be frank, Elsa, clinging to one side or the other is pointless. The divisions are false and Pluto is exposing and dissolving this core US political structure. Clinging to the status quo doesn’t work, now.

The established, mainstream media is caught in the same Pluto/Cap process of disintegration and collapse. It is clinging to old structures and divisions that are being destroyed by Pluto/Cap.

The media question, it seems to me, is where is the voice of Uranus in Aries? Where are the thinkers, writers, bloggers, websites, and movements of the next and new political structures that the US and the world will take?

NONE of them are in the mainstream, corporate owned media because anything established and old school is Capricorn and falling apart.

A sign of the new voices will be that they speak for the authentic, individual self (Aries) and not the corporate status quo, and that they will be expressing a need for radical change (Uranus) on behalf of actual, living, real people with real bodies (Aries – body, self).

They are now speaking through the Occupy/99 movement, and the one surprising quality of this movement is that it does NOT fall neatly into the familiar two-party political structure, which is the sure sign that it is something authentically new (Aries) that will bring authentic, revolutionary change (Uranus).

If we are confused by it, it is because WE are stuck in the old ways of thinking and cannot, ourselves, think outside the lib-con box.

Spot on Mimi K. ‘In with the new out with the old’. There is a quantum shift going on and it will be interesting to see what Uranus in Aries brings in as far as new ideas new thinking, new vision. New vision of self.

Saturn has only just stopped it’s exact opposition to Uranus (thus blocking it) and the Pluto square is just starting

I agree that Occupy movement is the voice of Uranus/Pluto…which in the beginning comes from those on the edge… those not totally bought into the system or disenfranchised by it etc. Uranus is pretty radical after all.

Perhaps its visionary side will speak more clearly (in another voice other than rebellion) after the system and and all who buy into it…are broken down a bit more by Pluto

I dont mean to sound glib..this is hard and it is affecting most of us. Yet it is also exciting. Ring the bell of changes.
