Ruby Ridge (Unusual Life Experience)
Outtakes and various other sundries.
We watched this movie the other night. I can’t recommend it even though it’s got a great cast (Randy Quaid, Laura Dern and a very young, Kirsten Dunst spewing shocking racial stuff).
The movie pretty much sucked because there was no telling what was real and what wasn’t. For example, Randy Weaver is ex- Special Forces but he was portrayed as an ineffectual idiot, with his wife pulling the strings. Quite incredibly, his young daughter appears to call the shots once her mother is killed and it’s bewildering.
I don’t know if the way I parsed this was the way the director intended the viewer the see the movie but one thing is for sure: The oldest girl (Sara) most definitely grew up in strange circumstance.
My husband didn’t think so as much as I did. Lots of people are racist (she was indoctrinated) and/or super religious, however these kids were trained to crawl on their bellies with rifles from the time they were tiny and they lived, isolated and home-schooled, on top a mountain. All these things put together, plus the way the story ended, (tanks show up at your house) qualifies her for me.
I have a lot interest in girls who grew up in extreme (isolated) circumstance (like Jaycee Dugard) because I am one of them. I particularly like to see how they merged with society later in life (if they merged) because this is an ongoing process for me and it’s just really hard.
I’m old. I got to town, decades ago and rarely a week goes by that I don’t stumble on something that I think it normal, that I find out is not. If you can understand that, then maybe you can understand my fascination. In whatever case, after the movie, I was curious enough I looked for an update on, Sara and she’s on youtube. She’s pretty normal from what I can see. I mean, you might not think so but I did.
She said she struggled terribly for a long time. She now forgives the government for killing her mother and her brother. She has a religious basis for this which seems fine to me. She says this story is about forgiveness and when I watch her talk, my thought is that people are resilient. Some of us are, anyway.
This is Randy Weaver’s chart – Click to see full size It’s wicked looking, eh?
I would like to see, Sara’s chart but can’t find her birth date. I specifically wonder is she has a Jupiter Uranus aspect in it. I do and her father does.
When you have something like this in your chart your life is inordinately unpredictable. Weird things happen. Psychic types waste their time with people like us in most cases. It sort of takes you off the grid.
Do you know anyone who has a life like this, beyond the pale?

Welcome, A. I’m sure you’re right. The thing is, you don’t know what sticks out, where and when and when it does come to your attention, it knocks you for a loop.
Here is an example… I am actually asked if I am an idiot savant. It’s not the kind of thing you expect.
The other day, my son was having a regular kid thing going on. I made a suggestion around how to handle it. It was how my family handled such a thing and my son was horrified. I asked my husband about this and he was also horrified. Whoops! I then have to sit there and get it into a knowledge bank that this thing is abnormal, which would have never occurred to me in a million years.
To tell you the truth, in a couple weeks later and I still think it’s normal and okay which means I have to suspend my own thinking and go with theirs, on faith. It quite disorienting but it has to be done.
I understand where you are coming from even though I didn’t grow up isolated by geography. My parents were restless and would move at the drop of a hat. We always lived in neighbourhoods with no children only older adults. It didn’t matter to me as I thought I was an adult since I was like 15 months old. When I was 10 my mothers aunt came to live with us. She was supposed to care for my little sister as she was 2. A year latter my mothers mother (sister to the aunt) came to live with us as well so now instead of 3 adult bosses I now had 4. Having friends over was out of the question completely. This was very isolating. This gave my parents license to work as many hours as they wanted to which was like 16 hours a day each. (both parents were Cappy’s)
Being disconnected or detached is some what of a problem. It causes a person to look at things in a different light. The way a family deals with situations inherently also influences every single person. My family usually ignored things until it just had to be addressed at the 11th hour. When it was most likely no possible way to do anything about it. This has always driven me nuts so as a result I attack as early as possible. I try to be proactive and take care of things before it is to late. This does not always work out but that is just one of the ways I deal with things. The few friends I have are very dear to me. I feel this is what makes us individuals. The differences in the way we were all brought up. Besides what is normal?
If you’re interested in reading more, this is probably the most balanced book out there: “Ruby Ridge: The Truth and Tragedy of the Randy Weaver Family.” The family dynamic you describe in the movie sounds pretty close to how it’s described in the book.
Thanks, Uberblonde. That’s very interesting. I could not believe my eyes when the father looked to the 14 year old for leadership, with his wife lying dead on the floor – son and dog, already been killed.
you ought to read the Wikipedia account of the event, The FBI and The BATF were wrong from the beginning to the end on this one for sure. In fact it was the agencies that truly broke the law as an undercover agent ask Mr. Weaver to shorten the shotgun.

I know heaps but here’s the thing. They are very good at covering up and even when THEY think that they’ve blown their cover or that everyone else has just realised they not really “normal” (yes, there are inverted commas) no one actually notices to the extent they think they do. Others might find them quirky or that they have a certain zaniness but never to the extent of how they think of themselves.
Resilience in my experience does not just mean a person can survive hell, it also means they are skilled at adapting which often means they don’t stand out as much as they think they do.
