My husband informed me today, he was going to raise me from a 2 to a 3 on the scale he uses to rate everything in his life by the degree of it’s difficulty.  If something is incredibly arduous, it rates a five. If it is easy,  it rates a 1. I was going up on his scale due something smart-ass I said.

“I need a counter-scale as well,” he explained. “On that scale, I rate the satisfaction of the endeavor. For example, Special Forces was a five for difficulty but it was also a five for satisfaction…” He said that truck-driving was a 4 or 5 for difficulty but only rated a 1 for satisfaction.

He said other women in his past were a 4 and 5 for difficulty.  I said, “You’re only raising my rating, to piss me off because you’re going into the void (no cellphone coverage) and you know I’ll be agitated and unable to kick your ass.

He did not deny this.

He did say that I was usually a two, but when I went off my rocker and chewed his ass, during those times I was a three.

My husband has Saturn in aspect to Mercury (obviously).

How do the things in your life rate using this method?

By the way, working as an astrologer, effort is a 4, satisfaction is a 5, so I have a very good deal here.

My marriage, effort a 2, satisfaction, a 5.

Parenting my son, effort a 3, satisfaction, is also a 5.

I fare worse on this blog. Effort a 5, satisfaction a 3 and sometimes a 2, lol.

Woman’s club – effort a 2, satisfaction a 4.
Church – effort a 1, satisfaction a 5.
Friendships – effort a 2, satisfaction a 5.

Really, there is an obvious pattern here – I tend to be satisfied. :)

Elsa,

I never ‘heard’ you talking about Spica. What this Virgo star means for you?

Will you be kind to write some thoughts on this Saturn conjunction Spica one day in the future?
(Nov. 14th /16th 2011 Saturn conjunct Spica at 23-24* Libra (1st of 3) )

In your consultations for your clients do you pay attention to these Regulus, Spica stars?

This is just a small idea from me for your possible next topics.
:-)

Whoops! My husband is out of the void and I messed up the math portion of this. He said, SF was an effort of 5 and high satisfaction as compared to something that was also and effort of 5 that gave him no satisfaction. The detail here, is he has not worked out his counter scale yet – he’s working on it. His idea is that sometimes you do things that are very hard but deliver no satisfaction and so it’s a total waste of your time other than perhaps you can see it as a learning experience. In whatever case, he wants numbers for this and he’s not done. :)

Elsa, I’m going to try this scale :) my mind like the idea alot:) I keep meaning to make a pros and cons list but this list felt discouraging. I also have Saturn/merc. Merc 1aries Saturn 0 Gemini.

Unfortunately my dysautonomia makes doing most everything difficult so that scale doesn’t really work for me haha!

I am surprised more people did not comment on this. I think it’s very telling. My son (who now gets good grades in school) said the effort was a 3 or 4 and the satisfaction was a 5.

I feel pretty good (or lucky) about it being revealed that I am generally, a satisfied person. Where I am not satisfied is glaring and I don’t know exactly how to think about that yet.

I think people haven’t commented because they’re thinking about it!

I do agree with you though that certain things need alot of effort for not much return and conversely, things with little effort bring alot of satisfaction. I’d say parenting for me is a 2 in effort, 5 in satisfaction. work is about a 4 in effort, 4 in satisfaction. pondering the rest!

I haven’t commented because I am absolutely horrible at assigning numbers to anything, LOL. “Rate your pain out of 10.” Nooooo idea. I also have so many things in my life to rate I would need a few days to do this exercise.

Mercury/Saturn here:)

Well this has interested me all day and I can’t think of anything else. He also have to come up with a third factor which he is calling “frictional forces” until he comes up with a better term. He’s workin’ on somethin’ big, lol. :)

But I took off in another direction, starting to identify WHAT it is that is satisfying. For example, the reason I have a high degree of satisfaction with my husband is different from the reason he feels satisfied with me. This is where I am. He’s doing the math, for reasons that have nothing to do with this. My track is not relevant for his purpose.

I just don’t relate in this way. I just see it in terms of things I want to do, and things I have to do.

1) marriage effort 3, satisfaction 0.
2) parenting effort 5, satisfaction 3.
3) career effort 5, satisfaction 0.
4) health effort 5, satisfaction 0.
5) friendships effort 2, satisfaction 5.
6) time with cat effort 1, satisfaction 5.
7) time with dog effort 4, satisfaction 2.
8) maintain/repair home effort 4, satisfaction 1/2.
So it looks like I need to seriously change my attitude and/or take my friends and my cat and find a new home.

i judge the worthwhileness of doing something based upon the expected satisfaction… and am getting better at predicting such things accurately.
it’s become extremely important with jobs, because the $ is only a tiny fraction… given that job stress started killing me (triggered type I diabetes…)

“Anything anyone can do to improve the boards? More threads posted? Less controversial topics?”

I think the boards are doing well. Most definitely a variety of people posting is desired. We want diversity here.

My problem is with blogging / producing content for the blog. For years I loved blogging but I no longer do. This is because the social climate is so oppressive to creativity, and free expression of dynamic thinking, which is what I do and what I am, to the bone.

It is not just this blog though. It’s widespread. There is nowhere to go but underground or behind closed doors with 80% of what I actually like to think about.

With Mars and Mercury in 9th, it’s beyond merely painful.

I should add that I hope it gets better. I am open to that! Publishing my book may help. I just don’t know.

What I do know it I am expected to maintain this blog on the 20% of what is in my mind that is less likely to upset or bewilder people; to be misread or misunderstood, etc. I am supposed to set aside the other 80% and that’s a job!

elsa dear, i just reently read that you have been grappling with this and how much it hurts. would it helpt to totally ignore when someone goes into attach mode on you and just leave all discussions on the proferred topic to the commenters on your blog? most likely you’ve considered that and chose otherwise for your own reasons. but if it is chewing you up inside, sapping your joy of blogging, then alot of the vitality and joy will go out here.

menega, I have tried all kinds of ways to try to deal with the problem, internally. I keep hitting the same wall. Saturn is moving off some of my junk (to mess with some new junk) so hopefully there will be some kind of progress made. I may just not want to be as visible as I have been in the past. It seems pretty pointless to be honest (9th).

With a chart like mine, I strive (Mars) for my life to have meaning (9th) but I also want to have fun (9th). The threat of serious consequences for people who speak freely, is such a buzz kill. It’s like our society has turned into a party I would rather not attend. Sorry, but there you go. Mars in Libra is anti-social to an extent, even when trying to be social. The end result is it’s tiring but I get along with soldiers pretty well.:)

My effort rates are all pretty high (say from 3-5) while my satisfaction rates are on the very high end (4 or 5). With merc/mars in my 1st, I’m just not given to sticking to something if there’s no personal satisfaction in it.
kids: effort=4/5 (depends on their mood) satisfaction=5
volunteering: effort=3, satisfaction=5
friendships: effort=4, satisfaction=5
You get the idea,
Angie

I’ve been thinking about how much this “effort/satisfaction” equation is so glaringly off-balance for me…why was I unable to articulate this disparity so clearly before?

As you mentioned, it’s Merc/Saturn. I do not naturally think in a detailed, logical manner. I’ve had to learn to adapt for survival. I dramatically complain for amusement (Leo Merc). My thinking is erratic and all-over the place (Merc conj Uranus) and I expect it all to fit together nicely and we all understand each other by osmosis (Merc square Neptune…I also wander into discussions…).

The only connection in my chart for Merc/Saturn is Merc in the 9th house and Saturn is in Sagittarius. Both fire signs, but too wide an orb to be a trine.

Thank you for this clarity!! I’ve learned something big here (again) and it’s key for conscious change in my life.
