The Progressed Moon
“Say it’s only a paper Moon, hanging over a cardboard sea, but it wouldn’t be make believe if you believed in me.”
–Paper Moon
The progressed chart is symbolic. It is calculated by moving the chart forward one day (past your birth) for each year that passes. It is reflective of how our personalities unfold over time. In the progressed chart it is the Moon that moves the fastest and changes sign most often, every few years or so. If reflects changing emotional attitudes and needs. This system doesn’t overpower the birth chart but rather adds a flavor in the moment.
The progressed Moon crossing the angles of either your birth or progressed chart is often associated with a significant emotional event in your life. That event relates to the area in tune with that angle, self, home, others and career. It’s interesting to go back and look at different periods of time in the progressed chart and see what the progressed Moon was up to.
I also like to compare progressed Moons between charts from time to time. The Moon does not move at a perfectly rigid rate. I find it interesting that even though we were born six years apart with Moons in square, my man and I currently both have Leo Moons. This lends more current compatibility than our natal placements would suggest. However, his is in a partnership oriented house, the 7th, while mine is in a house of a larger focus, the 11th. Similarities and differences, they add to the information pool.
Where is your progressed Moon?

Libra, closing in on my t-square of jupiter, pluto and saturn.
I had the same progressed moon as the taurus I’ve talked about, although his is lagging behind. I found it interesting that when we first became acquainted, his progressed Venus was conjunct my ceres/chiron/sun, and his progressec sun was conjunct my moon/venus/south node. His p. sun just passed my vertex, my moon moved away from his progressed asc, and there is no more connection between us, as far as I know, via progressed charts or “in life” in any way.
I’m going to have to check when my p. moon in Leo was conjunct his natal asc. His venus is moving in on his sun/moon, and my desc (in a few years). My sun is moving in on my moon/venus/south node.
Back to where it started.
In Cancer in the 12th house. It’s also conjunct my progressed Vesta. No wonder I’ve been such a hermit.
In Leo. In the TWELFTH.
I want to say ugh and more ugh. But, really, I’m thinking this will be perfect for my coming year. Um… starting when the kids leave. I intend of being a purposeful creative hermit 50% of the time and a social being directing others in plays the other 50% of the time.
“And the (progressed moon’s)passage through the 12th House, although challenging in some ways, can be a time to focus more on inner growth, meditation and dream work.”
Bring it. With some sexy on the side. (I should reserve some 5 or 10 % for that.)
I keep forgetting it’s going into my 12th, if it isn’t already there (Equal House).
Libra in the 12th house, sun has been there already in Libra for a few years together with the current Saturn transit in Libra. I hear ya Michelle – loud and clear- total hermit over here. It’s so bad that if I can figure out a way NOT to have to go to the store and just zen-out in my own space, I will do this!
I just kinda going with it, although some days I wake up and am down on myself for not having more ‘get up and go’, and then I think to myself after being working in sales on commission for so many years – screw it – I deserve this!
))
*Sigh* Ok… now I’m confused. Is this the “Day for a Year” method? Are you using it for the whole chart? Moon only?
I wrote Elsa about this method months ago , and she didn’t think much of it. Since I rarely do progressed charts , I took her opinion as valid.
Perhaps I misunderstood what she wrote… *Meh* that’s not unusual for me. Guess I’ll take all this with a grain of salt.
I’m off to see what Astro.com places this.
it’s just a general, really broad explanation of how progressions are calculated. I’m just talking about regular ol’ progressed charts. the Moon is just part of that.
*ahem* My prog moon changes sign in a couple of weeks, not months. Why I said months, I don’t know. Am looking forward to this.
In Gemini and in the 6th. Service and working on communication has certainly been important.
@ arshambow i hear YOU too. So I am going with the flow and my inner judge can screw off. Though I do listen to saturn, these days. And well I should. But saturn is turning into a soft slow reminder of right caring. Right attention. And it’s not just relationship to other, but also right relationship to self.
Good wishes to you. And you are at the right place. There is so much support here, it’s discombobulating. I didn’t know, before coming here, that love could flow so freely.

Gemini 7th hovering over natal mars which is conjunct to natal sun…
So intresting..I’ve not really read up on progressed charts at all , not gotten through the basics of a natal chart even.
My progressed moon is in cancer.29 deg degrees …Soon moving into Leo. Is it signifigant when your progressed moon goes into your natal moon sign?
Think I’m going to throw it a welcome home party…it enters leo again on the night to the 22 july…thats like allmost conjunct the leo sun:) I’m really looking forward to it. Not that I know what to expect , but still!
Great post Satori!!
….I always looove the quote headings you have!! They are great:)
My progressed moon is just a couple of degrees away from being my second progressed lunar return.
My P. Moon is in 2nd house Aries! It changed right before the massive Aries Stellium! I’ve noticed that I have “in charge” attitude to the things that are very important to me.
Also in Cancer in my 12th house. Definitely scaled back socially – going from chatty-sociable pMoon in Gemini in the 11th to weepy leave-me-alone pMoon in Cancer in the 11th has been a challenge! Looking forward to it moving in Leo later in the year – my natal Moon is in Leo, so I think it will be a lot happier.
Thanks Michelle, this is a great place indeed. I’ve learned and laughed so much in the short time I’ve been following, it’s amazing. Had a good laugh the other day reading the blog on favorite dirty words.
Too Funny.
I knew my progressed Moon was in Taurus and has been for a while, but evidently my Ascendant just changed to Taurus as well, and the Sun’s there, too. No wonder I’ve been so security- and money-minded lately. I also started wearing dresses again.
The moon doesn’t move at a steady rate???? It doesn’t retrograde, so thats not the reason. Can anybody explain why the moon would move at differnet speeds in different people’s progressed charts?
Mine progressed into Leo at the end of March. In my natal chart it would crossed over to the 8th house. Progressed chart it’s in my 7th (Prog. Saturn’s in there, too, giving it the evil eye).
Would this explain why I care more these days about how I look? I got my first department store card–never cared to have one of those before. Why now?
A few weeks ago, I was at this dept. store, and found myself practically drooling over all the shiny, colorful new purses on display. It was eye candy for me–and normally I NEVER let myself get caught up in that stuff. Not sure if this is the prog. moon or a Jupiter transit? (Jup was forming an exact conjunction to natal Chiron in 5th that week.)
In Virgo, in the fifth house. What the hell does THAT tell anyone??! I got enough going on with my prog Sun on Pisces 29…x
p Moon is in Aqua in my 7th house. It just moved there in February, right after I met the Aussie. I was surprised that I met him right around that time, yes I was expecting changes but it happened so quickly and was so linked to the P Moon entering my 7th! Wow!
Glad to amuse – but still keen to hear anything about that progressed moon!
Pan_tiques, my understanding about the moon’s rate of movement is that its orbit around the sun means it experiences differing levels of gravity at different points, slowing or speeding up its movement. moon orbit wobble, I think its called? or it could be the difference of how close its orbit is to the earth, so therefore just apparent difference in speed? really, I don’t know, but it’s interesting to think about.
Matt, that is a GREAT question to take to the bulletin board! there’s a tab up on the top of the page marked “boards” that will take you there. questions posted to the board often draw some really interesting discussion.
Oh my. My progressed Sun is 27 degrees Leo in the 11th house, and my progressed Moon is 25 Pisces in the 6th house. My progressed Jupiter is right next to my progressed Ascendant in Scorpio, 2nd house.
Astrology (including progressions) from my experience are not symbolic. They are real and raw cosmic energies that are constantly arriving to and leaving Earth (wheather humans are on Earth or not). Our spirits, being in human bodies absorb these, and send out our own ‘version/expression’ of these energies from the place of our unique Being.
