Astrology And Death: Ryan Dunn

“Let’s be careful out there.”

Ryan DunnThere have been two celebrity deaths in the last few days that I have been aware of. First was Clarence Clemons, The Big Man, best known as Bruce Springsteen’s sax player. I thought I would be more upset about his passing. What I actually felt was an awareness of the respect I have for his music and gratitude for the impact it had on me. The second was Ryan Dunn, an early reality television star, made famous by his association with Bam Margera and the Jackass franchise. This one hit me hard.

Ryan Dunn is best known for being part of a crew of young men who who were indie-cool, reckless pranksters. Many of their pranks were elaborately planned and resulted in amazingly few major injuries considering their outlandishness. Dunn had a reputation, though, as a reckless driver even among his compatriots. It’s not the sort of television I watch, but my son does. When I was subjected to it, however, I decided I really liked Dunn. He had a sweetness and a depth I couldn’t quite understand or put my finger on.

I didn’t look at Clarence Clemons’ chart. I did look at Ryan Dunn’s. I can tell you I have no interest in figuring out astrological death signatures. Even if it is possible to tell, I don’t really want to know. Ryan Dunn died in a fiery one-car wreck. What made me curious about Ryan Dunn’s chart was the question of “why so reckless?” It’s simple to see in his chart right off. He has Mars-Chiron-Venus opposing Uranus. Mars Uranus can be erratic, impulsive action, shocking action. With Venus involved, he liked that, and with Chiron there as well it may have held a karmic satisfaction.

At the time of the accident, transiting Jupiter was exact on the degree of his Mars. Jupiter’s supposed to be a benevolent transit, right? Well, it makes everything bigger, jollier, sportier, so what it also does is exacerbate tendencies that aren’t necessarily in our best interest as often as it brings fortune.

If you could figure out a death signature in astrology, would you look for it in your own chart? Would you want to know or not?

Really interesting. I must confess that as much as I would love to be oblivious to things like this, I am strangely fascinated by this subject. Weirdly enough I had Jupiter transit conjunct my Mars when my father died..

Hmmm I wonder if would could look at Jupiter as a release? Trying to think of Jupiter words that might apply.

I’m thinking an increase in the flow that is not well handled by the body (in both cases).

I thought that Jupiter was active in a couple of death charts that someone wrote about, several years back – I can’t remember who. (not here.)

No, I wouldn’t want to know. I think it would really mess with my head & I would become obsessed with the fact.

I have Saturn in 8th so I can easily douse my curiosity. I’m sure I will die. That’s as far as I take it. Sorry, satori!

You know, I had kind of a fascination with those skatekids too. Not the Jackass boys, but I sort of liked Bam and I remember Ryan.

When you have a boy child, you just sort of get interested and have a general, semimaternal interest in young men. Because I have a teenage boy I can talk to young men affectionately without feeling weird about it — actually more to the point, without making *them* feel weird about me.

I did find out from an extremely gifted vedic astrologer when I would die. Age 57.

In vedic astrology the death signature has to do, among other things, with the “maraka” or killer planet for your rising sign and sometimes your moon. Jupiter in vedic is a bigtime killer, because he expands a bad situation and can release one from one’s material karma. He is a spiritual planet and you draw spiritual rewards from him — in vedic astrology one of those rewards is getting to check out early and fast with no waiting in line.

If Ryan had maraka Jupiter on mars the day he died, he was a goner, had an appointment with fate, and felt absolutely nothing.

This whole thing is reminding me of Steve Irwin’s death. Guy who does crazy stunts and shoves a car up his ass dies in a firey wreck? It’s just… kinda appropriate, I guess. Though I have to say that I am not cool with the drunk driving or the killing of his passenger there.

Yikes!!!! I have that exact same placement…he was born 3 days after me. It’s in my 12th/7th. I wonder what houses it is for him???

I think I can relate somewhat to the impulsive action stuff, but it’s more-so on an emotional level than physical and tends to be very subconscious. I hurt myself emotionally by the situations I put myself in, and can’t really understand what I’m doing or did until it’s over, then I get super-remorse/guilt and hate myself for how stupid I was.

T.Jupiter was exact on my Mars/Venus June 16th and I got 4 tattoos that day. They were planned so not really impulsive but I guess you could say it was kind of aggressive-ish?? I did do something this weekend that was very stupid and I’m going through the above-mentioned pile of shit right now anyway, so maybe that’s how this transit is manifesting for me….Jupiter is also just about to hit my Chiron exact on the 27th and my ASC exact on the 1st….hopefully it will be a more positive manifestation.

What jen said above about Steve Irwin made me think, yet again, that at least these guys died doing what they LOVED.
I’m sure if they were given the choice to live to a ripe age & have to give their game up due to a failing body etc, or go out with a bang! this is what they’d choose.
I find some comfort in that…

My Scorpio Rising says yes I would look if I could identify it.

I agree with McKenna, these risk taking guys would rather go out like this, like Irwin.
I have scorp moon, yes i do look for signature in my chart? Thankfully i can’t even read a train timetable properly? lol

No surprise Uranus was there. That’s so jackass.

I’ve looked at death charts of family members, and at my own for their time of death. Jupiter figured strongly in all of them.

The Oxford Astrologer did a piece on this, and I think Dharmaruci might have talked about it too.

Someone somewhere did remark that Jupiter in the death signature may indicate the benefit of release. The joy of finally shuffling off this mortal coil, as it were.

I wouldn’t go looking for it in my own chart, but I do look ahead for transits that may be dangerous so as to be forearmed.

My death sentence is Mars conjunct Uranus and Sun in the 8th. Quick. Hot. Done. Hopefully. And maybe with a headline? Is that too much to ask? Just one? I mean, someone is probably going to shoot me and everybody thinks that is news right?

Sorry, Josi just thinks if you are going to jump out of plane you might as well do it with your ass on fire.

You know, I didn’t know this about Ryan Dunn. That show was BIG in my house for a long time and you are right, he did have an unspoken sweetness about him. Very sad and very easy to relate to with male children.

The trouble is, that the transits can mean so much and even when you know where to look, fortunately you dont know what a transit will mean to you.

I have a dear colleague who is a one-egged twin. While Saturn transited their joint Mars/Uranus/Pluto conjunction 2 years ago, the brother died of a nasty cancer disease while my colleague had a big opera role.

He of course suffered a terrible and unimaginable blow, but hes still around and kicking. And that transit could have meant exactly the same, or?

He drank too much and drove too fast (100mph). The more I read about this guy’s death the less sympathy I have.

(((satori)))

I would probably look, out of curiosity.

…I have Mars/Uranus/Chiron and did jackassy things when I was a kid. Didn’t help that it was the Evel Knievel era LOL.

I’ve also read that Jupiter has a significance in moments of death.

Back in 2004, I had a very bad car accident, and went “offline” for a moment. In the chart for that moment, I had Jupiter transiting my 4th house, trining my natal Sun & Moon in the 8th. Transiting Neptune was also conjunct my Sun & Moon, and trining tJupiter.

Also, Pluto (of course) & Mercury were both conjunct my natal Mercury in my 6th house.
And Saturn was on my ascendant.

That was my personal cocktail for shuffling off the mortal coil… at least for a moment. I got kicked back into play for some reason. Guess I wasn’t done yet!

(A bit more to the point on Satori’s article tho – I also have Mars in Aries opposite Uranus in Libra, and I do tend to have a reckless disregard for my personal safety. Fast cars & fast driving? Yes please!)

Accidents in astrology are usually mars and uranus. A jupiter transit could make this bigger or increase reckless behavior. Did anyone notice the transiting neptune/mars square that day. Neptune in pis square his gemini sun(wide orb) with a mars square approaching gemini. Neptune is drunkardness and mars rules accidents, fire and violence. There’s a warning there about accidents and drinking or drugs.

He also has a Sun opposition Neptune aspect in his chart, which is indicative of his escapism (drinking, drugs). He has always had a drinking and drug problem.

If you could figure out a death signature in astrology, would you look for it in your own chart? Would you want to know or not?

Yes, I would.
