Popularity: Venus, Mars And The Ascendent

May 28th, 2011 @ 2:16 pm by Satori

“Popularity should be no scale for the election of politicians. If it would depend on popularity, Donald Duck and The Muppets would take seats in senate.”
–Orson Welles

Kermit the FrogWhat makes a person popular? You don’t have to be nice to be popular. You don’t have to physically attractive to be popular. To my mind, popularity is when the majority of people in your sphere want to be associated with you. There are lots of roads to the same destination, but one I’ve noticed has to do the Venus, Mars and the ascendent.

The ascendent/descendent axis is associated with Venus and Mars, Venus ruling the 7th and Mars ruling the 1st. Venus and the 7th house have to do with your aesthetic and what attracts you. Mars and the 1st house is associated with the way you act and how you go about getting what you want. The ascendent itself, the 1st house cusp, represents one’s appearance, both physical and that of the personality, how we’re seen on the surface.

Popularity is broad appeal. This broad appeal can be apparent in the chart. Venus trine, sextile or conjunct the ascendent is one indicator. Mars trine, sextile or conjunct the ascendent is another, although less strong. The stronger indicator, however, is both Venus and Mars in these aspects to the ascendent. Venus or Mars in the 1st and 7th houses also has play here.

When Venus and Mars agree with the ascendent/descendent axis, what one wants and how they act is in outward accord with how they appear. They’re easy to subconsciously categorize, pleasant, congruous, safe. People with this combination don’t set off internal anomaly detectors. They slide easily into “oh, he’s/she’s okay!” That makes for general popularity.

Popularity on an individual level, relating one on one, will have more to do with how that person’s chart interacts with the other individual’s chart. Being popular does not mean being truly liked by each person in the group.

Sometimes transiting aspects to the ascendent, Mars or Venus can result in temporary, “transitory,” popularity. Have you ever experienced this?

What is your take on popularity? What is it in the chart that you think makes a person popular?

I’m not popular, but I’m not a total outcast either (even when I feel like one – anxiety disorder developed in childhood). I was born popular/happy in myself, able to talk with anyone, and would happily do so.

Uranus conjunct Scorpio ascendant, inconjunct Moon/Venus/South Node, trine Mars in Pisces.

Jupiter is inconjunct my ascendant, too – widely.

I am not popular because of my anti-social leanings but I find Sag,Leo, Libra, Aquarius folk most enjoyable to be around

Although my Mars does conjoin my Ascendant in Aquarius, my Scorpio Venus Squares it.

I’m memorable.

But popular, I don’t know, I feel I’m the guy you’d say yes he’s a nice guy, but then overlook for an invitation. My first class reunion was odd, knowing myself as a loner, but every group thought of me as one of them, the jocks, the nerds, the peppy people, etc…

At work everyone knows my name, without trying, I do make an impression, now weather it’s the right impression, again I don’t know.

As for the other planets that aspect my Ascendant, the Moon with Chiron rx in Aries Sextiles, Uranus in Libra Trines, and Saturn rx also squares in a t-square with both Mars and Venus

If you count the progressed chart,
My Capricorn Sun is squaring my Ascendant in Aries, and my Uranus is at my Decendant in Libra

My chart, and me consequently, are “too much”. I’m a lot for some people to deal with. Not to mention the jealous and/or threatened vibes I usually pick up, as was mentioned in the Leo blog.

All this doesn’t exactly equal popularity. :)

I don’t mind, though, because I’m introverted and being in any kind of crows always drains me.

I too am introverted.

many individuals prefer introverts, Bruce. :)

True, but getting two introverts into the same room together might be a bit of a challenge, sometimes. I know once I’m coerced out of my house to have fun I do, and I do like being around small groups of people, crowds can be allot, and even though lonely, quiet alone time has some benefits.

Yes, If I found an introvert and we could convince each other to venture out that would be great, or an extrovert to bring me out of my shell, or someone somewhere between.

My solar return this year will have Mars in Virgo with Orcus in my 5th house in a t-square with Neptune in Aquarius and Chiron in Pisces 10th house, and the Sun in Scorpio on the Decendant in house 6pladicus, 7equal. But Mars is also in a grand trine with one side in house 8 and Pluto in Capricorn, and the other side with Jupiter rx in Taurus house 1 and Lillith in Aries house 12

I get along better with introverts, usually. I don’t mind them being quiet, I’m 50/50 on the scale of introversion/extroversion, and I don’t mind waiting for them to come to me, should they want to. I dropped out of school, because I hated the social crap, and just wanted to do my work at home.

Didn’t mean to hijack the blog thread, It’s a great topic. Agreed so is introvert/extrovert, I can start a post on the boards for this, I didn’t have a topic for today, so this will work out nice.

I’d say I’m still 80/20 at least. Was far more isolated before my current job, where I learned allot on social behavior of humans. If I take nothing else away from this job, I at least got that.

I have a lot of scorpio, as I now know you do, Bruce. I used to think I was a threadkiller till someone told me that sometimes my comments were complete in themselves, and therefore they didn’t reply.

Thank you Satori, because I didn’t intend to.

Oh I have thought sometimes this too, but hijacking and being a thread killer is different, I do have a few posts on my history showing no further comments, but steering the topic off point even though related … well you said I didn’t.

I found the topic was very interesting and tapped into a strong aspect in my chart.

My Grandfather taught me that by his actions, my Grandmother, on my Mother’s side talked and talked and talked, and he just sat there, and from time to time gave me a knowing look as we both caught on about something in the conversation. It is from my Grandfather and also through my Mother that I got my strong sence of Empathy. Which does come out in my being an introvert.

I don’t mind being an introvert. Popularity usually ends up finding extroverts due to their outgoing nature.

I’m going to bed now though, I’ll check in tommorrow to see how the thread is going. Hope it’s still going strong.

OOps sorry, it happens, you can probably reel it in or repost on the boards. It’s okay to go off topic to it’s your thread, I liked seeing what people were commenting on the Venus/Mars/Ascendant thing.

I used to be one of the quietest ones in the room (or on the board) taking things in, and feeling like I knew people, but with them not really knowing me, and my being too shy to extend myself/open up. Unfortunately, it took huge emotional upset, spilling, and then a chip on my shoulder, to shift the shyness. I now feel weird, and wish that I’d tried to get to know people when I was shy but happier in ways – some people thought I was weird, because I was so quiet, but I liked myself more then than I do now.

I forgot to mention earlier, that in Equal House, Moon/Venus are in the 7th, at the end of the house. Placidus, they’re conjunct the cusp of the 8th. I can see them playing out in the 7th when I was smaller and talking with everyone – totally comfortable – and my wanting to be kind to everyone. I hate that I’m so prickly now, in specific situations. (Bruce, I’ve been isolated for a long time, too – deliberately when I was younger, and now not so much, but I still can only handle so much socializing.)

I don’t know if I’m popular. I know I’m well-liked at work, I’m sure it’s because I’m very low-maintenance and low-drama at work. Just pleasant and getting the job done.
My friends–well they’re my friends so of course the love me.

Other people? I only socialize when I’m feeling my Sagittarius ASC best, and that keeps me welcome to come back. If not, I stay home and hide.

I have Venus/Mars conjunct, sextile chart ruler Jupiter (which is in Gemini).

l know a Pisces Asc Venus scorpio let’s say a well loved person…interesting.
l have no aspects between the asc and venus/mars.
l have Venus cnjunct Mars in Aries 8th h. my popularity as a person can be momentary, my work being accepted and appreciated is far more important to me, plus too many people would be too many puzzles to put together.. it drains me ;)

Heh – I have Mars in Scorp conj ASC on the 12th house & Venus in Sagittarius conj the ASC in the first.

pleasant, congruous, safe. People with this combination don’t set off internal anomaly detectors.

Yup! Though I’m sorely lacking in “star power”, too many planets in the 12th. :D

My boyfriend is one of the most popular people I know. He is very outgoing, has loads of charisma, and he loves people…I think that’s why people love him.
He is Aries rising with Taurus Venus on Ascendant
with opposing Scorp Jupiter on Descendant
There is also a tight trine from Neptune to his Ascendant/Venus, and I think that helps with the popularity, because you can sense the compassion and sensitivity.
He’s also a Gemini so that helps with loving to converse with all types of people!

Satori, all my life I’ve been (within my sphere and within what I could see) one of the most highly sought after – by both genders – one often put on a pedestal or emulated… and simultaneously one of the most detested persons I know.

How do you explain something like that? 70% of the people I know are viewed in a neutral manner, i.e. they’re neither loved nor hated. I wouldn’t mind me some neutrality or consistency.

There was a quote in a movie that went something like, “What you are now doesn’t change who you are, be who you are, but sometimes be this too.” I try not to lose any part of me, I just try to discover how to allow myself to find the love I desire, and not cause and discord in the process, while being able to protect those I am responsible for.

Satori and Paulo,

“Mid Heaven signs/planets/aspects also tells about popularity.”

I’ll look into it. And I’ll keep reading on the Venus/Mars/Ascendant thing. =)

Hi all, I have mars conjunct venus (Cap) trine my Taurus Ascendant.

People with this combination don’t set off internal anomaly detectors.
I guess I can relate to this, not sure about popularity, but a general good will? I do try to be congruent.
