My son took his sister to her piano lesson today, then to the store where they bought a Nerf shotgun. Afterward I cut his hair and we all headed home. He walked into the house opening up the plump envelope from his first choice university. He got in!

This is a pretty big deal and a milestone for a kid his age. So of course I’m going to be interested in the transits to his chart. The instant he opened the letter was when the sun went into his 7th house. It shone a light on what he wants (Venus’ house). The moon was sextiling his 7th house Venus. It’s an opportunity, a satisfying opportunity; it felt good. Pluto is opposing his 9th house (higher education) Sun Mercury. He’s hearing about a big change in his educational path. Most importantly, Venus and Mercury are exactly conjunct his Mars. He heard (Mercury) about what he wants (Venus) to do (Mars). All these transits are exact to the degree.

His Mars is one corner of his cardinal grand square, opposite the moon and squaring Jupiter (in the 9th) and Saturn. His whole chart is set off today, in particular by Venus Mercury, news of what he wants. Neptune is also on his part of fortune, to the degree. I’m not entirely sure he won’t blow the whole thing off and go to Hollywood. I’m totally serious.

It’s fantastic that he got such great news. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that surely there are other kids his age with charts similar to his, all around the country, the world even. Perhaps they got news today about what they want too. I really doubt that every single one of them got such great news, maybe many of them but no way all. There’s a Jupiter Saturn opposition squaring that Mars. Fortune is connected to long-term work. If he hadn’t done the work he wouldn’t be getting the opportunity.

Transits show where the energy is but our choices up to that point often determine the outcome. When you do your best you maximize the opportunities that come your way.
