Daily Tarot, April 23, 2011: Tending and Defending with the Ace of Cups

Astrology Meets Tarot!

Just planting a garden won’t get you produce. You’ve got to tend it. Water, weed, fertilize and defend from pests that would interfere with your crop for their own, pesky gratification. The best results come from tending and defending.

Mercury’s direct and the details have been reviewed, revised and finally, settled. Thank goodness! The initial plot has been laid. Now, it’s time to follow through.

uwcaToday’s Tarot is the Ace of Cups, the essence of water energy. Aces are like seeds, the very start of growth, ready to burst forth. It’s a wonderfully encouraging card to see. But the thing to remember with the Ace is that the joy and blessings are not a promise—only a possibility. What you have here is a start. A good start for sure, but a start nonetheless.

Cups deal with matters of the heart. So you may see this card in reference to love, parenting, relationships with friends and family, and sometimes, even work, at least when you are passionate about your work. Emotion, intuition and love combine here, feeding the seedling.  This ace is often likened to the Holy Grail—it’s Tarot mystical superpower is love.

So while the Ace itself is very ethereal and fluid, bringing your dreams to fruition here is much less so. Maintain  singular focus, transcending obstacles though ongoing, dedicated attention.  Don’t let outside influences interfere with feeling and expressing your love. Stay in the flow by maintaining passion, over time. Connecting to your dreams emotionally paves the way for intuitive guidance. Keep it high minded for the best outcome. And good luck!

Are you tending and defending right now?

I’m definitely tending and defending. Right now, it’s all about my research and bringing that little seedling into major growth. I won’t see the results for awhile, but that’s the nature of the game and well understood.

I spent so much time weeding out the unnecessary things in my life, that I forgot I’d actually get to plant the seed eventually. Seemed like I was perpetually stuck in the weeding out process for awhile there. Oh, there’s still ongoing weeding to do, to ensure growth. For me, that translates as me saying “no” to some people, whether they don’t understand it or don’t like it. I can’t say yes to every request that comes my way and do what I need to do to get that garden thriving.

What a beautiful card! This is so uplifting.

I’m right in the middle of a project that is being done in of a spirit of love and appreciation, but this helps to center myself in the perfect attitude and to maintain the momentum.

New mantra for today: Tend and defend…

Yes yes yes. I spent yesterday working in the perenniel garden that I started 9 years ago. I left my house for 2 years (moved back in last October) and now I’m out there seeing who survived, who needs help, who thrived, who needs to be divided, etc. It’s very rewarding. I did a lot of trans-planting. I’m just about to go outside and see how everyone made it through the night in their new positions. And yes, this whole garden thing is a metaphor for my relationship. We’re doing a lot of weeding and trans-planting after our 2-year separation.

What beautiful timing! The next three moons are what we in Hawaii call the ‘OLE Moons (OH-lay)times when the moon ‘wobbles’ and is best for weeding and resting, watching and tending. But nothing new. We’ve planted a new life, begun in 2008 and the roots are taking hold. Care and tending is essential, old habits like pests need attention. We don’t do pesticides, so the defending is more hands-on: bunny fences and bug cover. It’s all right! Do the work, okay.

I like this card.
