There is Thorough And Then There Is Thorough And Exhaustive

Astrology in real life/

I was talking to a gal last night, she is working on a project that my husband is working on as well.  It is estimated they will finish in about a year.

Now some variance is expected but they both have about 400 questions to answer and you are supposed to answer each question, honestly and thoroughly.  I took one look at these questions and figured it would take my husband a number of months to complete.

For one thing, he’s a Taurus and he’s innately slow but he is also meticulous. He’s got Saturn in aspect to Mercury and he is simply not going to turn in something sub-par.

This is not for me to bother with.  His mind is his mind and I surely don’t like anyone messing with mine but this gal last night told me she was done with hers. “How long did it take you?” I asked.

“About two hours,” she said. I stifled a laugh.

“I figure that’ll take my husband about six months,” I said. She looked shocked and I shrugged. “It’s the way he is.”

How would you approach something like this? Where is your Mercury?

Mercury in Leo conjunct Saturn in Virgo: I’d probably get it done as quickly as I could, knowing that every answer I put down could and would change due circumstance and whim.

If it’s essay, I’d need to do it quickly so as not to write a novel.

In either case fire=FAST. Don’t hold me back, please, I do that enough on my own. ;)

LOL! My Mars/Mercury is in Pisces, so I think it would take me months too- I would be over thinking each response I’m sure.

this would depend on two things for me 1) the importance as far as urgency 2) my interest in it in general.
Heightened sense of each would be a speedy response..lowered sense in each, yeah, good luck with that because my Libra will procrastinate you to death.

I’ve got Merc in Scorp in the 9th and it forms a nice sextile to natal venus. Typically I like to dig and obsess over information and how things work. And the venus aspect prompts me to turn it into something pretty

lol, my mercury is unaspected and in Pisces so I will answer some, dance around, leave it alone, think about it and then answer a fewe more, etc… I take my time and let my thoughts grow about what answers I will give and I write my posts the same way. I’ll think about each sign, the ways of dressing them, the women I know of each sign, even the men I know of each sign, and then finally decide what to include in each write up!
I have a very creative mind that I allow to wander and when I finally fix my mind on the answer, I’m sure of it because I have so much in my second house!

…add to “answer honestly and thoroughly”…
…the time and effort involved to examine the context and intent of each question asked for its underlying purpose in the grand scheme of what the project entails and how the questionnaire responses effect the possible outcomes…

That’s my blessing/curse on stuff like this. :) Scorp Merc, 5H (conj Scorp Moon, 5H)

Two hours??…I’ll cop to a certain admiration/envy for these types. *Poof* Done. Next? Its not my way, though.

Mercury in Libra 7th house, it all depends on how fast I want to get it down. Also, it depends on the questions I have to answer. With mercury in Libra, I would probably have two many answers for each question.

Also, with Ascendant Virgo, sun Virgo, Uranus Virgo and Pluto Virgo boy would I over analysis and break every single question down and probably redo the questions all over again looking for perfection. Crazy! Huh?

I have indecisive Libra, slow Taurus, and my Mercury is in fastidious Virgo … so, um, do I have to do it, really? 400 questions and the answers must be thorough? Hm. I’d need to come up with some tricks to get through it and maybe consult an outsider or few to render opinions on terms and assumptions in the questions that I am debating the meaning of …

“When they ask if I prefer Thai or Indian food more, do they mean which one do I tend to pick most often, which one maximizes my pleasure principle the most often, which one I’d rather be stuck with on a deserted island as my only nourishment for all time …” It helps to have someone who does not think this way clarify things.

HA! @ CP..”the time and effort involved to examine the context and intent of each question asked for its underlying purpose in the grand scheme of what the project entails and how the questionnaire responses effect the possible outcomes”

As long as they aren’t math questions I could do it in about two hours too. Only I would put it off and off and off and off until 3AM the day before it’s due. Mercury in the 7th/Pisces.

Mercury in Taurus in 11th. 400 questions would overwhelm me at some point and I’d just take that much longer to finish it.

If I’ve got ’400′ questions to answer, and I chose to get into this project I am thorough, and Mercury is in the 10th as part of a stellium with Chiron and Scorp Sun. So, I’m weighing the gravity of my answers.

The stellium aspects (square) Saturn stellium in the 7th and 8th with Mars and Pluto so there’s all kinds of smoke going on with work that could just become public.

Your husband’s Taurus-ness reminds me of a guy friend with that same steadfast, but NOT fast approach to everything. Insight you gave me with that. Funny how that happens, when it happens:)

If I was able to take my time I would read them first. In stages. I would answer what I felt certain about immediately. I would tuck others away in the back of my mind. I like to file information away. Sure I believe in divine inspiration but I like to tap memory, too.

Mercury/Chiron-Saturn-Uranus T-square. Fixed. My time, my way:)

Unless you need them answered in an hour. Hell, I could do it in 13 minutes. And I’d forget everything, only to have it pop up randomly in a few years.

Mercury in Aries, I’d probably start the first ones with rigor and zest. But at about number 35 I’ll start writing one word answers, and by question 100, I’ll put it down and get to it…eventually.

It’s not that important. I’m going to ask my boss how IMPORTANT it actually is…Do I have to?

oh lord, it would take me a while. i have merc-saturn too. it’s the “thorough” that would bite me in the ass. it does anyway, even when people don’t specify it. so if that’s the goal, i’m gonna be tied up for a spell.

Cap Mercury; and my mind works fast in spite of my Taurus Moon – but I’d be very thorough. So I’d work through for however long it takes, probably 100 questions at a sitting. You can only concentrate 100% for so long at a time, it’s counterproductive to try to do too much at once

In the 10H, Aries, square saturn. I will probably jump into it right away while it’s new, filling it out carefully. I might lose interest as time passes, but if I know there is a deadline, it will get done. I’d do big chunks at a time, but not very often.

Merc Aquarius on DC sextile Saturn in Aries in the 8th. (Cap Sun) would sit down and do it relentlessly until it was done. When required that Saturn works fast and focussed drawing from an 8th house I had no idea contained so much. The Aquarian Merc would insist that the wording lived up to the idea. I know when to leave as is due time and emergency constraints and I do not regret having not perfected more because invariably it comes out mostly as I meant it…sometimes too deadly and rough, but I am getting over wanting to please.

I really love the feedback and interaction here. I enjoy reading through these responses as much as I enjoyed reading the original post. Having Mercury in Scorpio, conjunct Neptune, trine Pluto, sextile a conjuction of Jupiter and Venus, sexitle Ascendant, in the 3rd house, this has created for me, a rather interesting balance between intuition and logic, methodical and efficient, always looking for the “root cause” of everything. I’m sure I would be extremely focused until it was completed, being both thorough and yet precise.
