I had a mammogram last week and was called in today because they saw something suspicious. I have been through this before (been called back) so was calm about it. I was also fortunate in that is is bitter cold here today and so they had a cancellation and an opening for an appointment.
The tech showed me the picture of my breast and I could clearly see the area of concern which surprised me. They repeated the mammogram and it was still there so they took me in for an ultrasound.
At this point I was pretty sure I was in the promise of being diagnosed with cancer which is something I am completely prepared for by the way. I checked my feelings and they were calm. The tech scanned my breast with the wand…
She said she did not see anything concerning but continued to scan as I laid still, just wanting a correct result, whatever it might be. As I have said many, many times for 40 years now, I don’t mind if I die but admit at this point that my husband and my son would suffer terribly and I’d hate for them to go through that.
The tech finished up, saying she saw nothing but the doctor would have a look and perhaps they’d have me back in 6 months. As it turned out she came back with a paper that said I was all clear and to come back in a year, which is usual.
I thought people on this blog might like some good news for a change and also think it’s worth posting something like this for other woman who have yet to be called back for a bad mammogram but someone might… probably will. The news is not always bad.
As for the astrology, I think my luck is in evidence here as is the speed at which things happen around me. How many people do you know, get a cancer scare call and find themselves cleared within 2 hours?
I often say I have little to complain about and reasons like this are why. My heart goes out to men and women fighting cancer of any type. ::sigh:::

Cheers to that! Learning to be thankful for what doesn’t happen is hard
I certainly don’t have any trouble feeling gratitude. I work with people who are sick or have loved ones sick almost every day so I know I how this happens. Monday it’s one way and Tuesday it’s changed.
Yeah, Shannon, called back twice. This was for something different though. That last time was for a nipple duct weirdness.
Er… which is more news to younger women, it is not that unusual to be called back and it does not mean you have cancer.
Good!
nice to hear
Good news!! I’ve had several call backs on my breasts. I’ve had calcium deposits in milk ducts that have since gone away. Also I’ve had cysts come and go for hormonal reasons. When I had the ultrasound on my breasts, the doctor was in the room to watch. He asked me questions since the cysts had moved! He said it was hormonal, and told me to take 25 grams of soy protein a day. I was worried enough to ask my husband to come, so he was in the ultra room with the doc, tech, and me.
Great news Elsa!!
Be Blessed!!
Good to see you, Mark. I was wondering where you were because I wrote about, Aurora and you were quiet.
I’ve had a tumor, took surgery and some other treatment. Since then, I’ve had other “suspicious” things calling for biopsies. It always turns out to be something rare but benign, but I always have to wait a harrowing few days to hear back from Pathology. Freaks my shit out every time.
So glad you’re free and clear!
So glad to hear the good news
(My Grandmother and Mother both died from breast cancer, so every year my mammography is a nerve-wracking experience for me. I bite all my nails off until I get that “all clear”)
Excellent news.. whew!!
My grandmother died of breast cancer but she was 85 and I don’t think that counts. I am so sorry for all of you who have loved loved ones to cancer.
Yay on having no cancer!
I had a great-aunt who died of cancer, a couple of aunts with cancer, and my mother has several aunts who died of cancer.
WOPHOP!
Just the other day, my mom was worried about me coughing (hello, I’m an asthmatic with an upper respiratory infection?) and said, “You know you have a 60% chance of having the same cancer your sister did, right?”
“Yeah. That’s a 40% chance I won’t, though!”
I can’t worry about things like that, it’s like a flaw in my makeup or something. *grins*
Whew ! And yes, I know the feeling here. Truely makes one feel blessed !
Good news Elsa, and being selfish – we need you alive! Also very glad you don’t have to go through any treatments, it’s not fun.
Being on my own, I keep up my cancer insurance even though I’m stony broke. I’ve cancelled all my others, every one them (except driver’s of course)
I’m glad you’re okay.
My cousin is fighting cancer – has been for almost a year now (it was found in March), and we lost a family friend rather quickly twenty years ago. We had a really sweet older lodger, who sat there with mum and worked his way through a bottle with her, whilst she cried and they talked- when the friend found out. (Sharon, a Virgo – she worked in a senior home, taking care of the residents.)
this post made me cry. I could feel the pain for your family if God forbid the news was bad. Happy for your good news many times over
btw, my roommate had cancer and made a complete recovery – this was a couple years ago. She had chemo and radiation if I’m remembering correctly — months of treatment…She’s got mars jupiter in taurus in the 1st
Yeah, I know what you mean. I had a cancer scare a year and a half ago (a couple of months after being fired). I had had the colonoscopy, which found 3 polyps. Well, I had to go to my regular doctor a couple of weeks later, and while there, he was a little more concerned than usual. After removing the stitches from my finger, he sat down, and with a very serious look, brought up the colonoscopy. He then proceeded to tell me that one of the polyps was cancerous, and that I would have to have surgery and probably radiation.
I freaked.
It took me about 4 hours before I was able to get through to the doctor that had done the colonoscopy. 3 voicemails, each a little more frantic. Well, the doctor finally got back in the office (surgery is done elsewhere), and reassured me that although there was cancer, it was in situ, fully encapsulated, very very early, and the polyp was on a very long stalk. He doesn’t want to see me any earlier than the 3 years he had already told me (lets hope I have health insurance by then).
A bad four hours!
Elsa, glad you know to keep calm. Gladder still for the all clear.
YAY! So glad you are healthy Elsa. Your blog, your work, your positivity is such a blessing.
Glad to hear you’re okay, Elsa. Looks like we both got good news today.
Phew!!! =) I’ve been called back once too… for nothing, but the week wait in between appointments nearly killed me instead. Man!
this just happened to one of my friends, 30 yrs old, and her mom died from breast cancer when we were kids. it came back all clear. Phew, I’m glad they’re being careful but I can’t imagine how scary that must’ve been for her. She’s the quiet rock type so even tho we talked I don’t completely know how she felt. Well amen.
Hurrah, Elsa!!! So happy for you!
I, too, was called back. Once the first time when I had a baseline done, and again when I had the second. The words were exactly the same – they wanted to re-check a specific area – same one both times. I asked them to compare it to the baseline done a couple years before – they couldn’t find it. I refused to go back in, despite dire letters from the hospital. When I finally went back in a few years later, the radiologist noticed a plugged pore exactly where they were concerned about both times previously, and she marked it with a sticky “X” to show up on the mammogram. (No one else did.) And, she had a copy of my baseline. (Don’t know where it went the second time.)
Walla! No call back. So….just FYI….
Great news!
Good news!
I am very happy to hear your good news!
That’s wonderful news Elsa!
Great news, Elsa!
I had a similar scare not 2 months ago. Dr found a lump and sent me in for my very first mammogram. They took extra xrays and then sent me promptly over for a sonogram. Doc that was reviewing everything said he wasn’t “impressed” (all good news). My grandmother died of breast cancer in her early 60′s. Pluto is transiting my 6th house and almost upon my moon.
I’m so happy you’re cancer-free! That is great news, and I’m glad you have a new opportunity to feel thankful.
Glad to hear it Elsa!
!Wonderful news!
Happy news Elsa, thanks for sharing. Brings to mind that its always a reminder, to be humble or grateful and happy about small things, cos, *’we never know what’s comin’* … makes us be more (real) in love and also go a lot easier on everybody…and what do we have to waste? Good news for you and yours! …and us!
(concept really sticks after watching Benjamin Button).
Best Wishes Elsa P.
Blessings !!!
Good news ELsa – and thanks for sharing. Happy thoughts to all those under a cloud…
great news you are clear and understand the feelings of worry for family
Excellent news, Elsa! Good luck for sure when you can learn what’s what in 2 hrs. Damn lucky!!
Congrats, Elsa. Always unsettling to be called back.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was 30, had the full battery of treatment, and 12 years later I’m totally fine and skipping around like a teenager
As long as you’re getting regular screenings, you’ve got a much stronger chance of catching something early — when treatment is still fairly simple
So make sure to get your annuals, ladies!
Chloe (Virgo)
Congrats Elsa. Those callbacks can be unsettling.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was 30, was given the full battery of treatment, and 12 years later I’m fine and skipping around like a teenager
As long as you’re getting regular annual screenings, you’re many steps ahead with early detection — and if something is found, treatment can still be much simpler than if it’s found later.
Good to hear this. I was scared for a sec.
Yay, Elsa. Same thing happened to me, last month. Ultrasound showed small lump, determined benign, need to go back in 6 months to recheck. Even though it is very very tiny I KNEW I felt something under my armpit.
It is at these moments I deeply appreciate modern medicine, although I am in fact naturopathic.
I meant to mention as a public service announcement, in my career as a woman, I have only had one gyno show me what a “lump” actually feels like. Has anyone ever showed you?
This doc had a fake breast and I assumed a “lump” would feel like my thumb or something but in reality, they feel like pieces of gravel. They are very firm, pea-sized-ish and sharp-edged.
Nope, I have never been shown or told what they are feeling for. But I was told I have “cystic” breasts around my period, so I do self-checks. This felt different …
Thank you so much for that extra bit Elsa, this is extremely valuable information
Yeah, well it’s shocking. Lumps are like small rocks. They are not a large and they are not fleshy.
Elsa,
No idea how happy and relieved I am to read this!! May you always stay healthy and surrounded by people who love you for a very very very long time to come!
