Transiting Mercury Conjunct My Ascendent
Astrology in real life
I’ve had some heavy-duty communications come in over the last week. Taken together I’m left with a feeling I wouldn’t quite classify as foreboding but it sure is heavy.
The cancer thing came in with transiting Mercury (health) in Capricorn (fear) conjunct my ascendant (body). That turned out well and really nothing has *not* turned out well at this point but there are certainly no soft spots or round edges to be found anywhere.

I had a mammogram last week and was called in today because they saw something suspicious. I have been through this before (been called back) so was calm about it. I was also fortunate in that is is bitter cold here today and so they had a cancellation and an opening for an appointment.
The tech showed me the picture of my breast and I could clearly see the area of concern which surprised me. They repeated the mammogram and it was still there so they took me in for an ultrasound.

Valentine’s Day Question: What Rules Candy? by Satori
“Candy girl, you are my world, you’re everything, you’re everything, you’re everything to me!”
–New Edition
Nobody asked me this question. It popped into my head a few minutes ago. I was trying to figure out whether it was totally crass to drop hints or email my man a coupon. It’s been creeping into my head ever since I saw one at the Walgreen’s. I desperately want a Whitman’s Sampler for Valentine’s Day. I think it’s less about wanting something than it is about nostalgia. I’ve been feeling very nostalgic for the 70′s and my childhood.
I’d say Venus probably rules candy. As far a Venus-ruled sign goes, I’d probably assign candy to Taurus rather than Libra. Libra is sweet but airy. Libra snacks on rainbowy unicorn air-trails, right? Taurus is earthy, and foody. I’m thinking Taurus. Or we could split it: Libra gets the pretty candy (swedish fish, taffy, marshmallows) and Taurus gets chocolates.
Do you like candy? Do you have candy? Can I have some?
Saturn Retrograde In My 9th House – Back To Court!
Astrology in real life
Courts are 9th house-ruled and with Mars and Mercury in the 9th, I have been going to court since I was 17 years old, even though I’ve never been in trouble. Three months ago, I hired an attorney to represent me; this was the first time in my life I did not represent myself. I think it was a good move but the benefit I gleaned did not last because now I am going to court again… or rather, I am going to court some more as I never really stop.
I wonder if I am ever going to avoid going to court. Many have told me over the years, I’d make a great attorney but I am not at all interested. I do like advising people who have attorneys though, the same way I like working with people who have therapists.
While I appreciate and value the necessity of the structure these other professions provide, they do not appeal to me, personally. I think this is because I am a wild card by nature and should be played as such.
What is (retrograde) Saturn sending you back to?
Virgo Rising, Leo Rising and Ascendants in General by Nota
Real Conversation
I went out for noodles with my yoga teacher and another girl after class.
Cherie starts talking about how she’s working on letting go of this compulsive sort of feeling she has where she needs to tell people she is smart.
“I’m smart. I know people can tell I’m smart when they talk to me. I know this. But for the longest time I have struggled with feeling like I have to let people know.”
“You even advertise it.” I say tracing a line across my chest. I am referencing her collection of math joke t-shirts that she wears to class.
“I do! I want people to see. What’s that about?! You know, why do I keep doing this?”

Dixie’s Daily Tarot, January 31, 2011: Traveling Alone
Astrology Meets Tarot
Some journeys are joint, and some you necessarily take alone. I see the Hero’s Journey in everyday life. While life outside literature tends not to be a literal manifestation of the mythic version, the soul remains intact. The parent who has lost a child, development of debilitating illness, facing substance abuse, dealing with death—all kind of life-changing experiences provide impetus for previously unimaginable transformations. Whether you want or not.

Moon Conjunct Pluto in Capricorn: My Grandfather’s Legacy
Astrology in real life
I feel deeply stirred tonight recalling my grandfather, Henry, being aware I carry his legacy. I was thinking about him earlier this week, he was at the top of his profession when he quit public life around 50 years old. It’s easy for me to understand why he’d do this. My grandfather had little interest in material possession outside of things that were useful, like tools. I stated in one of his letters, he had a “nervous disposition” and I imagine the politics to the university weren’t to his liking.
Some years ago, Annalisa said I would end up like him which was a horror to me at the time, mostly because, Henry was single. Do you think I want to be single? NOOOOOOOOOOO!

Astrology Today: January 31 – February 1, 2011 – Freedom Urge Tempered By A Sense Of Responsibility
My eye on the sky
With the Moon, Mercury and Pluto in Capricorn, people have a foot on the ground but freedom urges are very strong right now as well.
It makes sense to tread carefully. People already feel restrained and you don’t want to show up with anything new to oppress them.
If you don’t care to heed this, don’t be surprised if you piss someone off and whatever you do, shoulder your share of the burden…. plus a little extra if you can, just be sure.
See what is coming up – Transit Watch
This is a super sticky subject but I’ll try to lay it out. There is a gal on the boards who speaks out about her hardship dealing with her teenage son who does nothing but make poor choices. You don’t need details. Most know a parent in circumstances like this. Their kid is violent, disrespectful, law-breaking, lying, truant, you name it, and the parent’s hands are tied.
In another scenario, you may know a woman who is beaten or otherwise mistreated by her husband or her boyfriend. You may know someone who is spending their way to homelessness or you may be in love with (or just care about) a drunk or drug addict who is increasing in speed as they careen downhill. You may know someone with a great partner, embarking on an affair with a shadowy figure, someone who decides to embezzle from their job, the scenarios are endless.
