Elsa P, Making Astrology Useful (To Justify My Existence)

December 31st, 2010 @ 7:37 am by Elsa

Astrology in real life

Yesterday, one of my regular clients told me she’d seen another astrologer.  She was gifted a consultation with a man who’d be considered high end in this field. She got nothing out of this and I was not surprised.

A lot of astrology is done for vanity. An astrologer may flatter a person. They may tell them what they can discern from the chart sort of like a carnival trick and that’s it. You have now had your chart “done”, sort of like having your hair done or your fingernails done.  It’s like a service for a celebrity.

I don’t work like this. I go right for the meat and the grizzle and make something of it and this is by my nature. I just can’t do the sycophant routine, I have got to provide the client with something worthwhile and useful simply to justify my existence, never mind my fee. I just don’t want money for nothing.

There is a bit of stupidity here on my part because some of these astrologers charge 3X what I do and I don’t know what to say about that.  My prices will eventually increase but it just struck me yesterday, for all my pedestrian ways, the astrology on this blog is for YOU.  It will actually help you.

I am proud of this. I am glad people read this blog or hire me and leave having got something from their investment of time and money.

This is more important to me than being fancy. We all know I was born to work in the dirty grave. At least I’m good at it.

{ hugs } Elsa. How can I thank you? I don’t contribute posts often, and when I do I know I’m often annoying, but I lurk and I read and I have consultations. Due to you and this blog I’m more optimistic, about life and about 2011 than I’ve been for more than 20 years. Why? Because my feet are back on solid ground – I’ve got direction. And I know if I get lost, I can count on you. I don’t know how astrology works but WOW(!) what a fabulous tool. And I trust your integrity and your ability to interpret the charts. You never shy away from bad news. That honesty, that is priceless. Thank you for everything, Elsa. Happy New year to you and yours.

I am not taking up tarot, that is a painting from the 1400′s! I do like art. :)

Memling’s art is amazing! what I do remember about my mother is that she had a cat named Memling ☺ Happy New Year Elsa! I’m happy and grateful you are in my life. You are a valued life guide and a friend.

I love the way that you are uniquely YOU, Elsa! As a person, a writer, and of course as an Astrologer. Comparing you to other ‘celebrity’ type astrologers is like comparing apples to oranges! You sure don’t have to justify your existence here! Happy New Year!

Practical information is why I’m drawn to this blog.

A series of lame, useless readings over the years are one reason I study astrology for myself. I purposely sought out several known experts who published in Dell and Mountain Astrologer, figuring they knew what they were doing. Nope.

Once I asked a simple question regarding finances and received bullshit spiritual advice. That did not help when I seriously needed concrete timing. Plus, she consulted the I-Ching. Wha? Am I paying for intuitive feelings I have within? Get a grip! That pissed me off to no end, especially since my spidey sense works pretty well.

Another astrologer insisted that I was up for some long awaited professional recognition. So I kept at my career and proceeded to tank. Perhaps he failed to notice Pluto getting ready to oppose the midheaven among other things? Whatever. No one looked at Solar Arcs, Returns or midpoints, let alone understand the actual radix.

Elsa:) I feel so fortunate to have found you on youtube which led me to this site. 2010 was really harsh in my world and your Astrology Blog was one place I could always rely on to keep me grounded and looking forward to better days.

Thanks for keeping it real!!

FYI, Cat Black took her images from classic paintings of that period. :) Classic archetypes are universal. I think that’s why art AND tarot work the way they do.

And I so appreciate the depth here. Always have.

I’m another one who more than appreciates the up front “here’s the deal – this is coming up in your chart, and what you are going through now is a preparation for it”. I also appreciate, more than I’ll ever be able to express to you, having you tell me I did *not* need to wear masks for people. You told me it was some kind of wrong teaching somewhere, but my chart demands I be true to who I am.

Then there is learning how see certain things for myself, via the lessons and classes and just the sharing here.

I agree wholeheartedly with Denise. Thank you for keeping it Real!

You are definitely unique Elsa – and that’s why we rally around you!

Know what you mean about the “celebrity” astrologer readings. I had 2 of them long, long time ago and got NOTHING out of them..I would rather have someone rip off the old scab wounds and try to piece together a healing plan, than go through a lackluster reading of nothing important.

I have had other professional astrology consultations, as well. There is no comparison. I was searching desperately for guidance in a bad situation….the other consultation gave me none at all….nice guy, fun to talk to, but I came away with absolutely nothing useful I could apply to my crisis. Thank goodness I kept looking, and came across the blog by chance. It’s truly been a lifeline of sorts. Thanks, Elsa, and Happy New Year!!!!

I’ve had two consultations that didn’t come from people on this site (I’ve consulted everyone here, I believe). One was mostly worthless; the other was for a horary, which I don’t think anyone here does. The external horary reading was very good, I liked the guy and he was very informative and “delicate”/compassionate.

But for straight consultations, I haven’t foound anyone better than the gals here. Fo’ realz!

I couldn’t agree more with Elsa. Vanity astrology. I live in an area which has strong spiritual affectations. Astrologers are rife around here. Mainly because they think we all have more money than sense. I have consulted Elsa on numerous occasions, which says it all. I have always come away more than happy and I don’t hesitate to recommend her. Ever. I consulted my previous astrologer twice yearly for 15 years. I did gain from the experience, as I learned the rudiments.Last Summer, I discovered he had opened his mouth to someone about my consulting him (not in detail, he just disclosed that I was a client) to blow his trumpet and to convince them that he was a player. My Scorpio Moon kicked his ass soundly. I don’t think he will namedrop again in a hurry. He’s toast. BTW in a few hours it is my birthday. Mr Astroman will no doubt be at the party I am going to. He is dim enough to think I will have forgotten and loom up to wish me Happy Birthday. Oh well, let’s see what happens…

Yep. Elsa keeps it real! I’ve been reading for several years, under old screen names I can’t remember now. I haven’t been to the site for ages because my paid work is on the computer, and I haven’t been able to spare the time. This xmas i’ve been home sick on anitbiotics and very much enjoyed catching up on the Elsa blog and boards.

Wow! The functionality and contributing writers and personal profiles and extensive content and, and,and is really great! Awesome. Excellent.
I’ve been on for days now, when I wasn’t on for a year. I’ve got a handle on my transits, my friends charts and transits, my family’s, sped off to my astrology book shelf to read up, check this, verify that, followed some comment streams that make no sense, had some great insights, made some comments.
Don’t let the detractors get you down, no need to justify as it stands on its own two feet easily, nothing compares. keep up the top work.
luv Alison from Australia XXX :)

Ooops. I think I went gushingly off topic there. I haven’t had a reading, yet from the quality of this site, I trust it would be worthwhile. X

Hey Elsa,

I think you do a great job of deciphering the art in a “no holds barred”, practical manner, must be that Cap rising. There’s a lot of integrity here and it’s obviously appreciated by many. Thank you
