Dixie’s Daily Tarot, December 6, 2010: Bright Side to Happy
Astrology Meets Tarot
Letting go of emotional hurts is not always an easy proposition, at least for me. I will think I’ve done it at last a dozen times before I reach any substantial level of success. It’s is something I work on, though, because skill here makes for a much happier life.
Today’s Tarot is the Eight of Cups, called "Emotional Withdrawal" in the Psychic Tarot Oracle. As common for non-traditional decks, focus is on one of the traditional angles—leaving behind emotional concern. Sometimes associated with spiritual transformations, we’re leaving the old ways of being to reach a higher perspective. I also associate this card with forgiveness and other forms of letting go. Astrologically, it’s Saturn in Pisces.
Remember, we’re talking about a conscious choice. Eights see success come through diligent work (Saturn) and cups tell us we’re managing emotions (Pisces). It doesn’t just happen automatically. You are deciding exactly what you’re leaving behind and where you want to head.
I love those aura photos you get at psychic fairs. Haven’t bothered trying to figure out how they work. I am just fascinated by the colors, and how they change over time, reflecting changes in your life. I was getting a reading done on of of those.
He smiled. "You deliberately choose to look at things in a positive light. You make a choice to be generous in how you view things."
I hadn’t thought of it before, but I do. I liked realizing that. It’s a very conscious choice, with big things or small. And it’s not some kind of goody-two-shoes new age froufrou deal. It just makes my life easier, and leaves me a happier person. Sometimes it’s a simple as choosing to assume the best of others when evidence hasn’t stacked up otherwise. When the best isn’t left to assume, then I dismiss it with as much compassion as I can muster. Because usually, people who aren’t kind aren’t happy. So it goes both ways—I can be think more kindly and be more happy, and I can assume those unkind to me are probably suffering and can remove their energy from my life without mixing in ill-intent. Ill-intent is poisonous.
The Eight of Cups gives us a nudge to leave behind those feelings that don’t add to our happiness. Questions like, "How much difference does it make? How do I know that? How can I move beyond what I don’t want to experience?" can help us work (Saturn) to transcend (Pisces). Just remember this requires a decision, effort, and allowing. If you want to leave it behind, you have to be willing to stop not pamper the feelings you want to leave by giving them greats amounts of energy and attention.
This works for me, anyway. What works for you?

WoW! This post stirred all kinds of stuff and sent me off to pull several cards of my own. The theme was very much the same as your card drawn today- When ‘choosing’ to leave something behind, the cards I pulled showed me that to ‘really’ leave them behind, focusing on the ‘goal’ ahead allows me to not waste my energy on what is ‘done’ with.
Thanks for another great post, Dixie!
Tam, I have Saturn in Pisces too.
That’s the basic idea, yeah. I will think about it some to see if I can expand in a (hopefully) meaningful way.
Hey Dixie,
Early this morning I posted a comment but the site went loopey and the whole page went white on me.
Well… anyways…
Be Blessed!!
Mark, I will always assume your good wishes and blessed intent, whether it gets posted or not.
Tam, come back tomorrow; I wrote more on this.
Go, CArRiE, go!
Hi Dixie,
I enjoy your interpretations very much and learn a lot by following your blog here. Could you tell me the source for those astrological correspondences, as p.ex. Saturn in Pisces for the 8 of Cups?
Thank you!
Verena – Welcome! And thank you.
I used the Zodiac Tarot as my starting point reference – http://www.elsaelsa.com/astrology/2010/08/22/dixies-daily-tarot-august-22-2010-zodiac-tarot-deck-review/
They based it off the Golden Dawn’s original attributions for most but added in modern planets and rulerships.
I loved that. My son has Saturn in Pisces and I see how he is constantly transcending the abuses of authority.
Personally, an old friend lumped some ‘ill-intent’ on me yesterday and I was amazed at how I didn’t take it on. I noticed that I am growing.
Thank you Dixie

“…I can assume those unkind to me are probably suffering and can remove their energy from my life without mixing in ill-intent. Ill-intent is poisonous.”
The entire post struck me as really important to me because I have natal Saturn in Pisces and Jupiter/Uranus has been running back and forth across it like a tractor trailer.
If you have time, could you speak a little more to what you meant about not mixing in ill-intent? Did you mean something like not feeding the idea of them getting what you think they deserve?
Thanks!
