Dixie’s Daily Tarot, November 19, 2010: Deceptive Appearances

Astrology Meets Tarot

judgement-tarotI was feeling down, having heard some unexpected and upsetting news about folks I care about. So I decided to reach for the Psychic Tarot Oracle. I often like Osho Zen for when I’m feeling out of sorts, but I wanted something a little more optimistic. The Zen deck can be kind of…stark, y’kno?

I wasn’t feeling up to stark. I was okay by this point. Stark was liable to make me go all weepy again. While the Tarot Oracle card was appropriate for the situation, it was at least not disturbing to look at.

Today’s Tarot is “Truth,” aka Judgment,  Number 20 of the Major Arcana. Twos are all about duality and opposition, quite fitting for this image of a woman standing on one side of a scale. Pluto-ruled, Judgment  refers to the ultimate in balanced accounting. Pluto doesn’t seem much for putting on airs, after all. Deep, dirty underbelly or not, embarrassing or not, matters not. All that matters here is what’s true, in the deepest heart of the matter.

What I’m reminded more than anything is that you don’t know–you never know, for sure–what someone else is going through, or has gone through. Appearances are deceptive in the extreme sometimes. You can talk, listen, attend, be fully present, look ‘em in the eye and even give them a big ol’ hug, and you still don’t know what’s going on. Even after you hear “what’s going on,” you don’t necessarily know what’s going on. Maybe Pisces will disagree, and there are exceptions, I guess. But overall, that sense of certainty strikes me as a big, fat illusion. Albeit sometimes a comfortable illusion.

That’s okay, though. The not knowing part. Because it’s my job to know about ME, not about everybody else. Heck, that’s a big enough job sometimes, digging out my own hidden realities. But I take this card as a reminder today to always do my best to be compassionate. Even if you can’t see the reason why. Because, you never know what somebody’s dealing with, until you do. If you do. At the very least, I have a goal never to add to another’s burden. Either lighten the load or stand down. That’s the aim.

Judgment reminds us there is an accounting, but it’s not necessarily ours to make. You do the best you can with what you’ve got, and wish no ill on the rest of humanity. They’ve got enough ill to deal with on their own.

Do appearances deceive you? Got the astrology?

Hi Dixie,

I’ve recently gotten some not so good news. It hurts. It hurts enough to make one ill for days. It gave me a bad headache and body aches and pains that lasted four days. But I’m coming around now but the news is still there.

Judgment is sometimes a rude awakening for me. It stands on a threshold that announces its news as if its job was to be unpleasant no matter what. Still I look to tarot for more insight into all this so I pull another clarification card. The Chariot Reversed (Hanson-Roberts Tarot cause I’m still feeling a little out of sorts).

This card, associated with the sign of cancer, has the meaning of victory and control. In the reversed position this can often point to a long-time coming victory or even an unfulfilling victory. Great. Happy Tarot is at work today (sarcasm intended). So I pull one more card.

The Magician. Now the tarot is being patronizing. I think I should quit while I’m ahead and because I try to take my own advice. Don’t do readings when you’re not feeling well lately.

Have a great morning, Dixie.

Be Blessed!!

Appearances can deceive, and they do me sometimes. But with Scorp rising, and Mars/Mercury conj. in Pisces, my mouth gets the best of me and I call people out many times. Not to make them uncomfortable, just to let them know: A) I feel where you’re coming from; or B) You’re full of shit (in a polite manner); or C) Could it be you aren’t seeing the whole picture?

I absolutely HATE deception so if I’m gonna invest time in this relationship, I’d better know what I’m getting into, or I just might not have the time to invest…that may sound harsh to some folks, but Life’s too short to play games..

@AriesSun- I’ve got Scorpio rising with Mars/Merc conjunct in Pisces too, and it’s been quite a lesson to curb my mouth. I see it as an artform to be able to call someone on their shit in a compassionate way! hehehe!
