Who Do You Love? Organic Attraction to a Certain Physical Type? Poll

November 15th, 2010 @ 7:10 am by Elsa

Astrology in Real Life…

pluto painting quadrigaAnnalisa has a theory, we all had a “blueprint” around what we were looking for in relationship. Dark eyes, dark hair, or whatever.

“You’re sitting on a plane with whomever, and your type walks by,” she explained. “You look at him, you can’t help it. It’s the guy you are always going to notice, who is going to notice you…”

I know I have a blueprint. I have a very distinct prototype, blatantly obvious to anyone who knows me. For example, my friend Stevie, was looking at my photo albums a some years ago. She has a Scorpio Moon.

“You better not show these to the AMF, she said, he was my boyfriend at the time. “Or if you do, you better make sure you’ve been together awhile because everyone in here looks just like him.”

“Yeah, I know. I like the same kind of men,” I said.

“I see that but I don’t think he needs to. I don’t think he’d be too happy if he saw these pictures,” she said.

I laughed. “Well he ought to be happy, he’s my type! What does he want me to do? Be sitting on a plane with him and have some other man turn my head?”

She understood but this did not stop her from making this offering to store my pictures at her house if we decided to move in together.

So what about you?

When I look for a partner...

I am featured so… ((11 y.o.)) I like my men to be,like it said in the post. Although, I love to expand my horizons for redheads, brunettes, but I’ve never had a crush on a blonde. No offense. But I pick ze HOT peeps.

I don’t have a wide variety of relationships to look back on, but the primary ones are all charactized more by the fact that they are completely different physical types than anything they have in common.

BUT – I am attracted to extremely intelligent men. And usually those with a poetic/faniciful streak.

The physical characteristics I like best are intangible ones like a man’s scent or his voice. For the most part, though, I am repelled by overly tall, lanky men.

I do have a physical type (square, muscular, dark hair, pretty eyes) but I haven’t always dated people who fit that description. I did marry a guy who fits it though.

Always gone for green-eyed guys, with any shade of blonde hair (usually it’s ash blonde), the sorta tallish northern european looks. Now my father has green eyes but he’s also short with brown hair, so that can’t be all of it.

My current guy has medium brown hair and fair skin BUT the most intense, gorgeous green eyes I have EVER seen! He’s not nordic but hispanic which is a novelty for me. His nickname is actually “Greeneyes” and he has Scorpio rising so you can just imagine what those eyes are capable of. It’s the absolute first thing people notice about him. Talk about weak in the knees!

I have a preference for dark skin, eyes and hair (the Sophia Loren type). WOohoo!!

Variety. Definitely like to mix it up. All cultures appeal to the many buttons in me that like to be pushed. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a one man woman, committed…. but I can find attraction in myriad of types. Plenty of women I think fall into the HOT category as well. If I like a ‘look’ or a ‘personality’, sizzle just happens.

i like a combination of physical and other traits…

although i never thought about it or broke it down before, almost every man i’ve ever dated has been tall-6 feet or more. and solid-not overly muscular, not overly skinny. broad shoulders and all that jazz.

other than that, sense of humor and intelligence are the other big things. the first guy that could keep up with me in the brains department, i married. :)

I tend towards tall Cancer types – all rounded. Doesn’t matter what they look like otherwise. Also, they have to be smart and a little bit sarcastic.

Goddess is my alter ego on this one.

I like brawny guys with deep voices and stunning intellects. Anything else is gravy! Lately I’ve been paying more attention to bald guys, but I think that’s because my SO is bald.

I think men in general are yummy, but the ones that grab me come in two types. I like them all around six feet tall, though. I also like men who aren’t too thin, because I adore somewhat soft men I can cuddle with. I can handle a some tummy, but not excessive tummy. ;)

The first type has the northern European look–light skin, light eyes, light hair. Oh, and with “playful” eyes, if that makes sense.

The second type has dark hair and eyes and slightly tan skin. I’m dating a German/Hungarian mutt and he’s absolutely yummy.

Oh, and abs… and arms… SEE WHAT YOU DID, ELSA?! Why’d you have to start talking about men?! Haha.. Me and my Scorp. rising… (BTW, yesterday was AMAZING for me concerning the Scorp. stellium…)

You’d be hard pressed to find a pattern of physical appearances in ~my~ photo albums. I have eclectic tastes when it comes to physiques.

Aquarius Asc (Uranus rules my chart)
+
Uranus as my first planet (what I look for) in the 7H (relationship/partner)

Variety, diversity, ‘explore and try everything’ (and yes, I’ve been around the block!)

One thing I *do* need is (nothing to do with physical appearance) lots of elbow room (aka freedom – a Uranus/Aquarius thing) and *all* my past partners have afforded me that.

Marly’s mention of what ~repels~ her makes me think/realize…

that I am (generally, but not always) *repelled* by both men and women of “magazine cover” look… those cookie-cutter blondes or hunks who are indistinguishable from each other…

and I see that that is my Aq/Ur at play again.

Most people can’t understand my attractions. The less diplomatic friends (one in particular) have repeatedly said (in disgust) “You find ~that~ sexy??”. And they’ll point out some physical flaw, and I’ll go, “So??? What’s that got to do with anything?”

I have dated ‘head turners’ (that gets tedious, it really does) and what some people might have considered ‘dogs’ — and every flavor in between.

Yep. Definitely Uranus/Aq. Had never really realized the extent of it until now.

I don’t have a physical type. I thought I did for a while, but it turns out I was wrong. Depending on various factors in my life, I’ve either gone for very tall men or rather short ones. Slender bodies, pudgy bodies, long flowing locks, thinning hair, blue/brown/hazel/green eyes, with glasses and without…

BUT! They’ve all been geeks in one way or another. Lately, the preference seems to be for gamer geeks with prominant Aries and Pisces. *shrugs* HellifIknow!

I TOTALLY have a very specific type that i like and one that I don’t like!

I DON’t like too tall, thin, blond men :|
(saturn in the 7th has brought me one of those though, he is handsome but not my type at all. other then that he is the male version of a Stepford Wife, will saturn drive me to commit to him?…we’ll see. )

What I do love is kinda compact, dark men! black eyes, the arab type, see? usually they have dark thick eyebrows and black eyes, I like fuzzy masculine men.
I hate the metrossexual type.

I identify alot with what my fellow Aquarius rising Strawberry said. There is a connection between our 7th house and the type of people we like, I have a preference for leo rising man.

OK this may be a bit odd … but I have a certain type men I like and a certain type women I like. I am more likely to be attracted to a man outside the “type” than a woman outside the type … but I tend to be attracted to things beyond the physical type. Still, though, you make a good point, and a tall, broad-shouldered bear of a man with a bit of a belly will turn my head every. single. time. (and if he’s dark, even better … LOL!) Just like a petite girl with hips on the wide side and a nice ass gets my attention consistently.

I tell myself that I have one type but I seem to notice a lot of people who don’t fit it, though usually with lanky muscle. I say I usually usually like men with medium length dark hair and sometimes, I think, large intelligent, attractive eyes. I think I don’t usually go for blondes but I have noticed them. Sometimes all a man I like has to do to get me not attracted to them is shave his head or grow long hair. I don’t like men with shaved heads usually or with that much facial hair when it doesn’t look artful enough. I thought I don’t like hairy men but I have been and am attracted to men with chest hair. I’ve got a thing for Aquarians, that’s for certain.

I have a preference alright. But I never seem to get it. I’m almost 5’10″, average build, brown hair/brown eyes.

Tall dark and handsome, that’s what I like. Athletic but not overly muscular. I’m not attracted to blondes or skinny, lanky men.

My high school sweetheart was dirty blonde with aqua blue eyes. Skinny, a little taller than me.

My ex-husband was a redhead in youth and turned brown/auburn with age, but his goatee was still red. He had hazel eyes. Same height and average/stocky build.

The guy I dated after my divorce had dark hair and blue eyes, my height. Slim/athletic build.

And the guy I’m seeing now has light brown hair and a red goatee (I know, similiar to the ex-husbans) except he has blue-grey eyes. AND he’s shorter than me!! Go figure. Man, he’s a hottie. He has an average to slight build.

So variety obviously doesn’t bother me. I just know the tall, dark and handsome turns my head first. But it’s the rest of the package that reels me in ;)

I just wanna feel like a “girl”, dammit! I wish I was a petite little thing. I’m starting to think that really tall guys go for the opposite end of the spectrum.. the short stacks. Who knows?

I can see where you’re coming from, Strawberry Fields!! If I love a guy, I love his flaws too. I’m not being romantic, I mean, I will love his gap-toothed smile, or his hairy back (yup, I’m not even kidding) of his bald spot or his big nose.

My repulsion for tall skinny men comes from a bad relationship and it’s visceral: I’ve turned white and flustered when encountering this physical type in close settings.

I have a slight weakness for real blond
Dyed Blond i find slutty… although that’s a prejudice…
For first appearances and not have talked to someone, off course you mark the looks… I prefer thin, light hair (sometimes red)
After having talked, i like bold, energetic women who don’t have a shame to talk about anything

scorpio rising here and i LURRRVE other scorpio risings: dark, moody, intense. the occasional blonde or redhead will get me too, but not as often. i’m a sucker for L – O – N – G hair on a guy. last ex i nearly broke my heart over had pisces rising though, with the most beautiful eyes in the world: large, brown, compassionate. a girl could lose her soul in eyes like those, i know i nearly did, ha…

I find myself attracted to thin, average height, olive skin, dark haired guys. I liked many Asians growing up, my husband is filipino (but is often mistaked for a hispanic). There’s something about those quiet, mysterious looking Asian guys. I also love latin men, but my dad and a few I dated ruined that for me :(
When I was an adolescent, I also really liked black boys. Okay, now that I think about it….anyone is my type..lol. Lets see…..A Pisces guy really broke my heart. I broke a few Libra hearts. I had an intense relationship with a Scorpio (love/hate relationship)….and that was about it until I met my match…an Aquarius. I never had the chance to date another Leo, but I suppose that would’ve been a disaster anyways!
For the most part though, I’m not into the typical muscle-man-hot-guy (Vin Diesel-types)…I like them skinny, deep, and FUNNY.
I also think that 98% of females are just beautiful, no matter what their sign or physical attributes are.

I am very specific about this: geeky white boy intellectual. Tall, thin, pasty, preppy, and always very boyish. He needs to carry himself like an overgrown boy as well, so someone who conveys a combination of naivite and cockyness with occasional streaks of brilliance. And once I talk to them, they’d better have a PhD or other advanced degree or its a no go.

I like brawny guys with deep voices and stunning intellects. Anything else is gravy! Lately I’ve been paying more attention to bald guys, but I think that’s because my SO is bald.

Looks like I’m SaDiablo’s alter ego. I’ve got a bald, tall, brawny, funky-glasses-wearing, chest-hair-having, bass-playing, Cancer-type man.

I really, really like this topic of “imprint.” I love the physical qualities my man has, but the type goes beyond what’s apparent. I don’t think I’ve ever dated anyone who looked like this guy before, but even my former SO said about him, “he’s your TYPE.”

My impression when I first saw him (and every time I see him) is that he’s my caveman. Not that he looks Cro-Magnon, but that his whole look sets off pinball machine lights and sounds in my head like I finally found the person that matches my subconscious old-brain baby duckling imprint. He is just IT for me– I never want to look at anything else.

I am a Taurus and I really. Really. Like Scorpios. Yes, I have loved a Leo and a Cappy and even really really loved a Virgo. But I love love love Scorpios. Please. I get it. The next Scorpio you give me, if he adores me more than anyone else in the world, is successful, loves words, adventure, travel, creativity, fun, peace and quiet, the beauty of life, and precious things like animals and art, I am there 100%.

I always, and still do, like tallish dark-haired guys. The hairier, the better (Mars in Leo). ;) I also dig intelligence (Mercury in Virgo, 5th house). I dated a lot of smart, engaging, gamer geek types, but didn’t marry one, strangely enough. Hubby is short and stocky, with curly hair, IS intelligent, but hides behind a “basic guy’s guy” mask. Don’t quite understand it, but I guess it was meant to be.

I either go for:

Dark wavy hair, dark eyes, tanned skin. Usually of Asian or Hispanic descent. If any of you are familiar with Mark Dacascos (Brotherhood of the Wolf – the guy that plays the Native American), that’s EXACTLY the look that gets me weak in the knees… except… taller – probably about 5’10 – 6’2 :)

Looking back at past relationships, I don’t seem to have a specific physical type. But wit and intelligence and the ability to balance my somewhat anxious nature are strong points of attraction for me.

Thinking about it, I feel that I’m most attracted to tall, older men with nice hands, long fingers and a little meat on their bones. But a talented, witty man who looks completely different is just as likely to attract me. Oh yeah, I also really love beards/scruffiness for some reason.

My mars in sag rules my imprint with a dash of Scorpio rising. It’s the sporty, rugged, hard-working, physical man. Lots of scruff, not too done up. Love wild, curly hair. I have a thing for intense, neanderthal looking men with muscular haunches. My last one had that forehead overhang thing that drove me wild. The one thing is that they have to be very, very male – step into a room and own it. I have a lot of male/mars energy so many men are just not strong/rough enough for me. They have to be the type who will throw you up against a wall….

:)

I’ve often wished I didn’t have a ‘type’ (and I always have) so I would not limit myself. At least now it’s just blue eyes…I’ve always loved them and my long-term relationship was with a woman with blonde hair and big, beautiful blue eyes. Makes me melt every time…

At least now brunettes, redheads can turn my head, but it’s those eyes. And I tend to like taller then me, though even petite body shapes can get my attention…basically I do think I’m hard-wired for a woman who isn’t like me (I’m 5’4″, brunette, brown eyes, shapely – not big at all, but not petite). There just has to be something innate that I’m a woman and I want a woman not like myself physically.

And now I see that I love to have fun with Aquarians (they’re always so bright) yet I want other water women – Scorpios and Cancer in particular. I’m tired of swimming up stream with a woman who is not emotionally and intellectually a match.

My Gemini Mars: Lean, smart, snarky, hair can be whatever but I do lean blond-ish, charming, and young. God forbid something happens to my husband because then I’ll be just another cougar on the dating scene. Ooh, and razor sharp cheekbones. Oh! And light eyes. The prettier the better. I married a Gemini Rising.

Someone above me mentioned Angel (David Boreanaz)? Well then, I gotta mention Spike. Soooo my physical type.

Going by looks alone? Athletic, but not muscle-bound. Mars in Sag, but I’ve never even dated a Sag… Bookish but not nerdy, fair-skinned with dark hair and glasses, or blonde, but not pretty boys like Brad Pitt. Denis Leary is more like it. Above all, I have to sense that they’re intelligent and fun, and usually I can tell that before they even open their mouths. Something about the expression in their eyes or the way they carry themselves, I guess???

I’ve dated all different kinds (part. as a teenager) but since I’ve been an adult, I do think I have a type, though I think chemistry overrules all in the end.
*at least 6 feet tall
*fair skin
*definitely not skinny, but not the body builder type either… thicker than average… usu. quite strong with an interest in martial arts
*hair on the shorter side
*dark ash blonde/light brown hair with green or blue eyes

The guy I am quite smitten with fits all these characteristics except he has darker hair and brown eyes…he is of german ancestry though as the last few have been, as well.

I picked the last choice, but I’m not sure. I like smart men. Sometimes they have a look, sometimes they don’t. I guess, I’d have to say like Johnny Depp with glasses. Geeks or freaks. Also I like goth looking guys. But really if they’re not smart I’m not interested no matter how they look. Then again if a guy is wearing eyeliner, I’m happy.

My husband is a geek, although he argues he’s not a geek but a freak. The only other person I was ever seriously interested in, was a musician. They have nothing in common between the two of them. Well, except they are both intellegent.

Oh heck yes I have a relatively specific type. I like ‘em big, tall (over 6′) and hairy because I’m big, tall and hairy. They say you end up with someone as equally attractive as you are. Don’t like blondes and I hate beefy, muscular guys. I like the teddy-bear type though a nice pair of arms is never discounted. Guys who are unattractive to most girls are attractive to me. It must be the Pisces, that whole lonesome puppy thing. However, put most guys in a fine suit and I melt like grilled cheese in July on the equator. Yeehaw.

lean, “moves well” (fluid, athletic) will catch my eye from a distance. a closer look will show character in the eyes. there must be character, maybe something quirky. bombshell bimbo-esque types might as well be statues on wheels. i need to be engaged by something “interesting” that comes through right away and is supported when the words come out. (i’ll run the other way from Little Girl voices. fingernails on the chalkboard. in fact my ears love a “supported” woman’s voice.)

purely physically, it’s pretty much all over the board, although i have to sense “healthy,” someone who takes care of herself. other’n that, could be black, white, brown, yellow, green, blue, plaid or paisley, i don’t care. i love women.

but back to voices for a minute, specifically jodie foster’s because, regardless of this or that, i find her to be an attractive woman due in large part to some sort of “character” that comes through. you can almost see the gears meshing and wheels turning when she speaks, after she’s sized something up. she strikes me as incredibly “people smart,” and i like that. her voice, though, is off. choked. comes out strained from some sticking point too deep in her throat. i feel it in my own when i hear her. over-modulated, over-controlled. (given her life, it’s easy to understand.) therefore i am utterly fascinated. she’s someone i’d love to talk to. again, that strong draw to what exudes character.

I mentioned this on the board, but I’ll put it here, too:

The long-term ex
Bald, blue eyes, tall, beefy, deep voice, two earrings in right ear, nurse

Work crush
Bald, blue eyes, tall, beefy, deep voice (though not as deep), two earrings in right ear, nurse

Nah… I don’t have a type at all. ;)

Most intense relationship now is SuperScorp who is
Bald, green eyes, short, stocky, deepest voice ever heard in a white man, two piercings (not in either ear), not a nurse.
Close enough. :P

Gah! Someone above mentioned dating men who look like their father…guilty as charged. Completely unintentional, but after a while I suppose a trend surfaces. I always thought I liked dark eyes and hair, but the last four men in my life have all had medium-to-blonde hair, blue eyes, and three of them were types that worked with their hands/physically in tune. My dad has a very physically demanding job…

Do you have to like your type? Hah!

And I go for, it seems, a variety of personalities but the one thing that always gets me is unavailability. I’ve nailed it down to my fear of commitment, hah. And it’s definitely something that I don’t like…my current ‘relationship,’ if you can call it that, is with a textbook Sag…he has a girlfriend but I can positively hear the panties dropping every time he walks in a room. Basically, he’s one of them, one of those ones that wants to stick his finger in every pie and probably could, too. Leaving the pie most happy, if emotionally messed up. Bastard. But I do think he fits my ‘organic attraction’ type. Um, he smells delightful, his voice makes me convulse, his hands are magnificent–worker’s hands that somehow manage to be graceful at the same time. Oh and nice ankles. Mmm

Yeah, I’d say I have a type. Now, dear lord, find me one of them but without a girlfriend. Add a splash of loyalty and siphon off the cowardice, and I’ve got me a match!

Yep… Here’s the basic framework for most of my physical attractions: Dark/ish hair, blue/gray/green eyes or a combination of those colors, usually very fair skin tone.. and well.. I must admit it… I typically do not find “alpha male” types at all attractive, in fact I find them repellent, I seem to like my men looking somewhat unusual and maybe a little feminine.. sigh blame Aquarius for that? lol ;)

And I like them very masculine and arty – it’s a really sexy combination.

I answered “something other than physical”, as I’ve not always prefered the same type. It’s more a feel thing, LOL! Yeah, I’ve got a bit o’cancer in my chart :o ). If I see someone and they attrack my attention, I’ll have to go say hi and see if I get that feeling. This even applies for friends, though I’m more open to several attempts either way.

Definately tall, strong but not bulky- more long and lean, long hair, big hands/forearms, chest hair and even facial hair is good, sleepy eyes, full mouth/lips… yup, that about describes my hubby to a T. ;-)

I like men who have some Taurus energy in them. There’s just this yumminess about that that i love. I can always sense it. I have venus in Taurus. The rest of what he looks like isn’t really an issue.

Apparently my tastes haven’t changed much in 3 years. Same answer as before, but I might phrase it in a bit more detail now.

Apparently I’m some sort of a self-appointed pointer out of beauty–like a “Docent of the Divine” perhaps?
“Oh look! Aren’t her eyes pretty? Wow, look at his hair! Hey, can you believe this guy’s voice? Like an angel, listen! Ooo–cool shoes. Look! and on and on…
TAB-ism…”Yeah, C–but you think everybody’s beautiful”. [which is a stretch...but maybe not much of one]

If it is a relationship with any type of committment, I am looking for more than just physical appearance. If you are talking about physical attraction, there is only one common trait. I like men! I like them tall, short, muscular, slender, dark, blonde, red head, asian, black, caucasian, blue, brown, and green eyes. It made dating fun.

I like dark haired 5′ 8″ to 5′ 10″, with arm muscles. Give me the muscles!

Definitely…tall, dark, and handsome is what attracts me. Hate to be a cliche, but I can’t help myself! I dated a guy who was a couple inches taller than me (I’m 5’7), and was blond and fairly thin. It was odd for me because I’m pretty lanky and have dirty blond hair. I felt like if we got mugged, I would be the one to defend him. So I’m more drawn to taller, very masculine types. I’m thinking Chris Noth, but I also like foreign ones. No male models though, since I think they need to have some sort of quirk which will draw them to me, not just trophy-spouse status.

A study I read somewhere a long time ago showed women pictures of different men. When the women were ovulating, they were most attracted to more manly, muscular men. When they were not, they liked men will softer, more feminine features.

I had an aha moment when I read that. I like two types: tall, lean and slightly feminine – and if my gaydar is off, I am attracted to tall, lean gay men which doesn’t do me any good. The other type is shorter, very broad in the chest and shoulders, the kind of guy who plants both feet firmly and stands in a challenging masculine way.

Now that I am no longer ovulating, I’m am much fussier, find fewer men physically attractive but notice there are so many more beautiful women than there are sexy men. Hormones.

Dunnea, someone mentioned awhile back that the hormones in birth control pills (and possibly food?) may be responsible for women being attracted to feminine men. I don’t know but it’s an interesting theory.

I voted for preferring a type, but I have to say there have been very wide variations in my ‘type’!

He must have a good nose, that’s essential. I like a strong, straight quite big nose, not fleshy. Other than that, I like medium height, being only 5ft 2ins (though one of my greatest loves the Italian was 6ft 2) – ideally 5’9 to 5’11. I like a man to be fairly slim but not thin, with broad or at least square shoulders, and to carry himself with confidence (no slouchers please, and no ganglies). He must be well-proportioned and ‘well balanced’ – ie move well.

I’m not fussy about hair colour except I prefer blond or very dark to light brown or red (the Actor has reddish/auburn hair but I’ve never had a proper gingernut). I don’t mind bald but I don’t like facial hair and I don’t like too much chest hair either.

In fact I quite like the androgynous look – or did when I was younger… One’s tastes do change with time! I can accept more weight now than I would have 20 years ago ;^)

I have a type. I can’t seem to pin it down to anything but feminine yet not too feminine. It also has to do with a longish hair.

I always sort of knew I had a type, but I was cleaning the pictures out of my old computer about six months ago and I saw a very definite pattern, with a couple variations here and there.

My pattern is tall (I’m tall, so they must be taller), medium brown to black hair, brown/hazel/grey (never blue or green) eyes, broad shoulders, narrow waist/hips, lean swimmer type muscle (or parkour runners), nice well proportioned hands and forearms with lots of tattoos, a prominent nose (like BP) and crooked teeth- straight teeth kind of weird me out unless they’re naturally that way.

I am an artist and my men become my muses so they must look good (to me). I have noticed that while most of them would be considered good looking by the general populace, I do like strange features that I’ve never seen on anyone else before. For example, I have an ex who has the most extraordinary nose- the way the tip of his nose and nostrils are shaped is very unique- I don’t really know how to even describe it.

I voted for ‘something other than appearance’ because I love a good, confident voice in a man – and more importantly one who has something to say!

I’m with StrawberryField on the aqua rising – never been interested in stereotypically ‘gorgeous’ men.

Weirdly though I did use to have a type – pale, blue eyes, very dark hair…. like me (ahem) and I never even kissed a guy who didn’t have blue eyes before.

Love of my life is the TOTAL opposite – dark skin, dark eyes, dark hair. A little like George Clooney in his 20s (who btw used to be my major crush as a teenager). It shocked me! And he’s drop dead gorgeous too – if we hadn’t met online I wouldn’t have given him the time of day cos I’d assume he wouldn’t be interested. But he does have scorp rising so his eyes are full of spark :)

Incidentally, my dad is in the dark hair, dark skin, dark eyes category too…
