Astrology Meets Tarot

six-swords-invertedSometimes cards that look negative upon first glance are not necessarily “bad.” Today’s Tarot is a good example. We have the Six of Swords, inverted. While this card sometimes denotes an actual journey, much more often it shows up to indicate an emotional journey. Swords are of the Air element, so we’re looking at a change in worldview via a change in thinking. Swords often  point to difficult truths especially, and this card definitively has that flavor. However, I find this card considerably more optimistic than it initially appears.

Sixes in Tarot denote a stabilized situation and always involve some sort of give and take, or cooperation. Sometimes, family is involved when you see a six. In this case, the woman is being helped across the water by the boat navigator, and has a child with her, so she’s definitely not alone. Worthwhile to note that fact when you’re on a Six of Swords journey.

Notice the figures are oriented toward the right (future), headed off toward the mountains (new goals). Inverted, it may indicate there is block, delay, denial, or maybe just that the journey is almost done. Depends on what else you’re getting in the reading to put the reversal into context. When I see the Six of Swords, I know the person is undergoing a difficult transition but has begun the process of moving on. Healing is underway.

This card is associated with Mercury in Aquarius; using that energy could help bring you some relief. Work on detaching your thinking about the matters at hand, depersonalizing the impact. Focus on the increased freedom that comes from the change, getting power from no longer being a slave to a situation that just wasn’t serving.

And really, when you get down to it, by the time you’re here, yes, you are still feeling the sadness en route, but it’s important to realize the worst is definitely behind you. It doesn’t necessarily feel light or airy, but it is a relief.  It’s about understanding the difficult truth. Sometimes it stings, but it’s better to know what’s real so you can work with what you’ve actually got instead of pretending over what you wish you had. You’ve survived the worst and are ready to move on. You’re highly aware of the difficult truths—those swords are directly in front of you. But you’ll be leaving the water (emotional tides) soon, so you’ll be able to focus on the new horizons in your new home.

Today, I see the Six of Swords here to tell us we’re almost there. This is a process, like everything else, but one well worth the trouble. You may feel a little tired and beat up by this point, but it’s okay. You’re doing what you need to do and you’re in the home stretch. So take a deep breath and keep on facing the future. You’ll be there, soon enough.

How about you? Gone on any Six of Swords journeys lately?

Hi Dixie,

For me the Six of Swords reversed is a fascinating card in that my “psychic-self” is hiding while this card comes out to play. This is a sign (for me) that the message is “deliberately” hidden from view.
What could this card mean to me personally right now? To find the answer I pulled out my own trusty Radiant Rider Waite deck and shuffled and pulled one card to give me more insight on the Six of Swords.
What did I pull? The Seven of Swords. LOL! It’s as if the tarot knows that my “psychic-self” is “stealing away” the secrets it holds. I love being validated but I wanna know more so I pulled another card. The Ace of Cups reversed. Uh-oh. This card tells me that somewhere deep is a part of me (the romantic part) that’s not being “heard from” like it should. Try as I might, I keep avoiding relationships. Their hard on me. I like my life like it is right now. I have too much on my plate. So I pull one more card. The Star. It seems like tarot is just saying it understands me and is saying that love will always be there if I decide to ask for it. That’s comforting to know. That tarot knows everything.
Thanks for the insight Dixie.
Be Blessed!!
P.S…Good luck with your show tonight!! :)

Yeah, that card has been plaguing me lately. And I have gone through a really rough patch over the last few years. But now things are clearing up and my hard work is starting to pay off. Even if I still got a wee-bit more to do.

But to come to think of it, I did not realise that I wasn’t alone. Thanks for reminding me that I am not alone.

Hey Dixie… Good one considering my circumstances right now… I really do think things may be coming to a conclusion… and yeah.. I DO feel a little beat up :P
I’m sure it was for a good reason though… ;)

Great card Dixie! I pulled my daily card before logging on, and think it actually goes together quite well with the one you’ve pulled. The Five of Wands (inverted too). My journey has included a large amount of struggle, not knowing where to focus my energy best. I’m finally feeling like I’m finding where that is, the struggle may finally be over. Although I still have a ways to go on my journey, I am feeling a lot less burdened and also, less alone. Thanks, girl- you Rock!

Hi Dixie! You’ve been spot on for me a lot of these times lately. I remember your card about this woman that was blinded and attached and some water at her feet, and behing the castle…Well, at the time I was this woman. There seemed to be no way to move forward. And today, I’m the 6 of swords. The future has opened up. The worst has passed – so true. I’m about to begin a new life, in a new home in a couple of months. It’s just the time in between, lots to sort out before I can really get completely free from the past and the anxiety from going into something unknown, although I know it’s all for the better.

After reading this, I pulled The Fool. I feel a wave of hope, and it sure is refreshing!

Thank you Dixie :)

Wow! Wishing everyone well with their Six of Swords journeys!

Mark, that is a hoot. Don’t you love when those followup cards say exactly what you were thinking?

sunnysadge, maybe the company was the part you weren’t hearing. Once you get the message clearly, repeat cards often ease up.

Yes, this card has been coming up a lot lately, and I’ve been working on embracing the fact that I might not be “there” yet, I might not even know where or what “there” is, but somehow, I’m going on faith that a new shore looms.

Again, Dixie – right on the money. And glad to see it. It’s been a rough week, and is slowly getting better. Still a lot of “mop up” to a very sad situation in my family, but I can see things getting better day by day.
