Movies by the Virgo Avenger

October 12th, 2010 @ 7:00 am by Virgo Avenger

Just a male Virgo’s point of view; # Seventeen

movie nightI like to watch movies, not at the theater, they are communist charging way to much money, but on the tele via, Netflix, HBO, Showtime, etc…

I love to watch the old movies, the ones as a child if I was forced to watch I would pull my hair out. I also like new and all in between. I do have my favorites however.

Now whether or not it’s a Virgo thing I don’t know, what I do know is it’s weird to others, especially my wife, but she overlooks it. (That’s love)

I will watch a movie over and over again, sometimes all at once, but mostly over time.

When Braveheart came out, and before Mel flaked out, I watched this movie over and over 15 times in two weeks.

The Shawshank Redemption came out in 1994, I have seen it over 100 times and would watch it tonight if it were on.

The Perfect Storm, 32 times

The Hunt for Red October, 21 times

These and many more movies I will watch over and over again, I have ordered series that I have watched as a kid, to just see them again like, Gilligan’s Island, Mash, Chips, Adam 12, Emergency, Etc…

It’s not that I think there might be a different ending, it’s more that every time I watch it I see something I had not seen before, sometimes I catch an editing error, or a costume mistake, sometimes it’s just something else happening in the background.

I think because there is all this “new” undiscovered stuff, I will watch it over and over till I’m convinced I’ve seen it all, and going back over movies and shows you watched as a kid is a blast because you have to ask yourself, “was I really that intrigued with this show,? and if so, why?”

I know some of you out there do not watch T.V. and for the life of me I’d rather be struck dead, but you do read books, and I’m sure their must be a few of you that will read a book over and still come across a line you did not remember from the first read.

I love the study of humans, I like to see how they act, respond, inter-relate, and communicate with one another, so whether it’s in public or on T.V. I enjoy it, and whether it’s real or made up, I will watch it.

People are the only animal on this planet that are un-predictable, I have no idea how any of you will respond to the following joke, but it would be interesting to know……..

More to come next time….

Hints, tips, and whatever:

A man walks into a bar, notices a very large jar on the counter, and sees that it’s filled to the brim with $10 bills. He guesses there must be at least ten thousand dollars in it. He approaches the bartender and asks, “What’s with the money in the jar?”

“Well…, you pay $10, and if you pass three tests, you get all the money in the jar and the keys to a brand new Lexus.”

The man certainly isn’t going to pass this up, so he asks, “What are the three tests?”

“You gotta pay first,” says the bartender, “those are the rules.”

So, after thinking it over a while, the man gives the bartender $10 which he stuffs into the jar.

“Okay,” says the bartender, “here’s what you need to do:”

First – You have to drink a whole quart of tequila, in 60 seconds or less, and you can’t make a face while doing it.

Second – There’s a pit bull chained in the back with a bad tooth. You have to remove that tooth with your bare hands.

Third – There’s a 90-year old lady upstairs who’s never had sex. You have to take care of that problem.”

The man is stunned! “I know I paid my $10 — but I’m not an idiot! I won’t do it! You’d have to be nuts to drink a quart of tequila and then do all those other things!”

“Your call,” says the bartender, “but,
your money stays where it is.”

As time goes on, the man has a few more drinks and finally says, “Where’s the damn tequila?!”

He grabs the bottle with both hands and drinks it as fast as he can. Tears stream down both cheeks — but he doesn’t make a face — and he drinks it in 58 seconds!

Next, he staggers out the back door where he sees the pit bull chained to a pole. Soon, the people inside the bar hear loud growling, screaming, and sounds of a terrible fight — then nothing but silence!

Just when they think that the man surely must be dead, he staggers back into the bar. His clothes are ripped to shreds and he’s bleeding from bites and gashes all over his body. He drunkenly says, “Now…, where’s that old woman with the bad tooth?”

I’m just loving your posts Virgo Avenger! There are very few movies I’ll rewatch or books I’ll reread- but, my son can read the same book over and over again.

I’m totally stealing your joke and will be telling that one today- guaranteed! LMAO

Definately going to do some major dusting (skin? ewe) and moving my toothbrush!

Thanks again for the post and the tips!

Love this! I have heard the Earth signs like to do the same things over and over….I am a water sign and do like to watch old movies too but more for sentimental reasons rather than looking for editing mistakes…not that I don’t spot them (continuity things)and I do have my favorites! And I don’t go to theatres either for the same reasons the Virgo Avenger has mentioned. Matinees are now as much as what it cost to go to the movies during regular hours. Forget it!

Love the jokes! Keep up the good work Virgo Avenger…and those tips and facts…good stuff!

I’m not a television watcher, but I do like watching beloved movies over and over, and will re-read books. :)

You’re a great writer. I’d say keep it up, but it seems you have, will, and then some! ;)

Virgo Avenger, I love my old TV shows. Love them. And they do provide a pretty fascinating anthropological record of sorts. I’ve been watching a ton of “Brady Bunch” lately and just the evolution in outfits, hairstyles, lingo and other cultural markers from season one to season five is pretty fascinating – like how Mr. Brady went from crew cut and white shirt/tie to “groovy” open collar paisley and a perm. (Such a bizarre, bizarre time, those early Seventies…) The way the show’s writers worked to try and capture the shifting landscape – yup, I get into this stuff big time. I’m a writer too so it all has value for me; therefore, I feel good about classifying my viewing as “work,” which is very convenient.

PS – I think you need to contact “60 Minutes” and pitch yourself as Andy Rooney’s replacement. Being very serious here.

Excellent. Must be true about earth signs Dawn, because I like to watch favourite movies over and over. But I do leave time between viewings. I’ve been watching the entire set of Frasier over the summer (it’s all on Youtube hooray for freebies!)and will again at some stage.

PS Mr Avenger, that used to be one of favourite jokes :)

“I like to watch movies…”

Me,too. Stories, well told – there’s n.o.t.h.i.n.g like it. I’ve had the happy experience of a good number of stellar films that I saw and heard thanks to television.

I truly don’t know why those who make garbage… how they can’t know the difference. (I think they do, and that they think faking is good enough; my opinion – I’m sure they’d claim not. Kinda like… a pile of rotting meat is “Art”… if enough people say so.)

My husband is a Virgo rising and does this to an extent. Thanks to Netflix, he’s seen every MASH and Star Trek. He is currently on a Clint Eastwood Bender (various Dirty Harry movies can be seen any time he is home). I will personally scream if I have to watch The Hunt For Red October one more time.

My earthy Sun and Moon don’t make me much better. I was on a real Stargate kick a few years ago and if it’s a disaster movie, I will watch it any number of times. My daughter is sick to death of 2012.

How refreshing!!!! Thanks for all of the posts!!

Hunt for the red October…will watch anytime it is on, commercials included, and I have the DVD!!!
watched Braveheart 3 times…between the look he gets when he gets betrayed and the ending I turn into an emotional basket case…can’t watch it anymore…There are a few movies I will not buy because they had such an emotional impact on me that I can’t put myself through that again ( Untamed heart, schindler list, city of angels and Black hawk down)
Stacey…big Stargate fan here…bought the entiere 10 seasons and the 2 movies, even if I have seen most of them at least 3 times LOL
New favorite: NCIS…have seen most of the episodes at least 3 times and still planning on buying the seasons as soon as I can (SEMPER FI!!!)
Other can not stay away when on TV: the 5th element, Die hard 2 and 4, Independence Day, Miracle on 34th street, White Christmas…
And I am a Pisces with Virgo ascendant ( my moon in Sag wanted you to know that LOL>>>)
