Dixie’s Daily Tarot, October 8, 2010: Transitional Foundations

Astrology Meets Tarot

four-wands-tarotDuring periods of transition, the ground shifts beneath your feet. There’s that flux period where your life is neither what it was nor what it will be, but somewhere in the middle, similar to the void we’ve been discussing here and there. While necessary and natural, this is not my favorite place by any stretch of the imagination. I prefer stable grounding.

Today’s Tarot is the Four of Wands, coming in reversed. Associated with Venus in Aries, this is sometimes called "The Wedding Card" because it frequently shows up to indicate weddings, rites of passage, or other celebrations and milestones. It also sometimes shows up surrounding major breakthroughs. I once got this card along with the Queen of Cups to describe employment–for a hospice worker!  It was counseling (Queen of Cups) surrounding a transitional milestone (Four of Wands), see?  Fours are all about stable foundations, although the stability factor may be in question when the card comes inverted.

Having done tech work for a number of years, I’ve shifted to focusing a lot more (public) attention to Tarot. This is both exhilarating—I love working with Tarot!–and disorienting at the same time. Can’t get a more vivid left-brain/right brain dichotomy than that, man.

My tech clients who follow me on Facebook and Twitter are now treated to a steady stream of my Daily Tarot columns and board postings. I am not entirely sure how this is going  over, beyond assuming that people can unsubscribe to the information stream if they don’t dig it. I hope folks who have worked with me know me well enough to trust my technical expertise, even if they don’t  share my spiritual bent. Still, it’s reasonable to expect some will be less than charmed. (Ahem. We won’t mention my family.)

Just as you might expect from the Four of Wands inverted, the entire situation hasn’t all shaken out. The message for me today is to allow exactly that: processing and settling time. Fruit ripens at its own pace. This card reminds me I would do well to keep shoring up my foundations, remaining open to the joy and celebration that comes from the transition without being overly concerned over the interim. No point, anyway.

How well do you manage big transitions?

I like transitional time. I just remind myself that the “Wheel of Fortune” is in the process of turning my way. And I use this information to my advantage and I cast my spells accordingly.
The rule of thumb is “Life’s One Big Cycle or Wheel”. First we have the “bad time” then we have the “transition time” then we have the “good time”. If we are aware of what “cycle” our life is in then we KNOW for certain what’s coming up next in the cycle and we can plan our magick according to life’s tides.
So I enjoy the cycle because I KNOW what’s coming next and can use it to my advantage.

So appropriate for me as well. Just moved into a new place. New job. Everything new. But I look around and think, “This is all transition.” It’s brilliant to be thankful for where you are and acknowledge it. I think it’s exciting and terrifying to also realize you’re not quite who you are supposed to be. Not just yet…

It depends on whether the transition is my own choice, or the universe’s. Right now I’m going through a transition that I did not choose, did not foresee. I’ve been through all of the steps of grief–anger through acceptance. I am a Leo, I don’t like change, and I don’t like not knowing. But, I do see the upside of it all, I do know, and even embrace the fact that I needed out of the old situation. I guess for me the hardest part is having faith that the “good time” will come. That is what I’m working on now.

man oh man do I understand this right now. It’s possible that great things are on the horizon, but none of them are certain yet.
