Dixie’s Daily Tarot, October 6, 2010: Driver’s Seat-Head or Gut?
Astrology Meets Tarot
I rely heavily on my gut in making decisions. Any time I’m in a quandary, I almost always choose the option that “feels” best to me overall. This is not overly difficult with decisions that mostly impact me, but when they impact others, it gets more complicated. All of a sudden, there are exponentially more factors to consider and it’s much more confusing, weighing out not only how I feel, but how other people feel, what the facts are, and what is owed to all parties involved. It’s enough to make a chick want to go take a nap!
Today’s Tarot is the Two of Swords, associated with Moon in Libra. Twos are all about duality, and Swords are the Air element, so we are weighing out competing ideas. She’s settled in, suggesting a standoff here, one sword not obviously favored in balance. Her white clothing indicates purity of intent, and the watery backdrop (with a few rocky patches) indicate the emotional impact of her decision, although she may not be fully aware. The water is behind her and she is blindfolded, after all. I think of this as the “trying to decide” card, and always get the sense with traditional versions the process is tiring. Those swords look heavy. The moon in the background, suggestive of intuition, provides her a potential avenue to resolution.
I’m probably seeing this card because I have a decision weighing on the back of my mind, just like the woman here. I, too, am trying to approach it with a clear heart, pure motives, but there is not an obvious, logical draw toward one option over the other. Both have significant costs and benefits—either direction will pass some rocks without question, and don’t even get me started on the undertows. My inclination is to wait until there is a clearer indication, intuitive or rationally based, although to be perfectly honest, I’d like to drop the two swords and just move on. I don’t care for the sense of stasis that goes with the process. Frankly, this is very old news and I’d like to be done with it.
But you know what? I know whatever decision I make, I have to live with it. For me to feel good about my direction, I have to feel it was undertaken responsibly, with integrity, and taking into account the fuller picture. Some of that picture is just not in view yet. So I sit, letting it exist in the backdrop for now, waiting for that intuitive clarification that gives me a clear indication of which path I want to take.
The Two of Swords suggests we undertake choices with fairness, taking into account both rational arguments (Swords) and emotional concerns (Water). Expect a few rocky bumps en route whichever choice you make. One option is not presenting as a clear frontrunner, with the current weighting for either choice roughly even. Consider meditating on the decision for insight, or perhaps testing the waters with only small steps out in either direction. It’s not the time for bold moves, but measured ones. Just like a Libra Moon, you’ll be happiest with the outcome if you feel it’s fair to all involved, so be sure it is.
Aside: Since we’re talking Libra Moon, don’t forget to set your intention for tomorrow’s New Moon in Libra!
Do you make decisions with your head or your gut? Can you identify the astrology?

Would you say that could reflect todays new moon – seems a lot of coincidence with Libra month as well.
I definately make ‘gut’ decisions, sometimes too quickly and your reading reminds me that it’s better (in some cases) to wait and not be in such a hurry, to wait until as you say, I can see the fuller picture. Thanks once again, Dixie!
Indeed, I do know what you mean, Mark.
Inntertransition, I realized we had that new moon after I had drawn and written up the card, not to mention it being Libra season now and all, so it definitely seems in sync with the sky in general.
Both. (How’s that for an answer). Cap Moon square Venus Mars.
I’m the slowest moving impulsive person you’ll ever meet:)
WOW.
That is the card I pulled this morning..
A serious decision in my path for true…
Still shaking head
These are always so timely! Last night, my cards said the same thing, just slightly differently.
“But you know what? I know whatever decision I make, I have to live with it.”
When a person makes a decision, he or she is always making decisions on what follows after. Sometimes we turn a blind eye deciding unconsciously and then wonder how did we end up here? Well, it was built daily.
Whew. Yep, big decision here as well.
I WISH I made decisions with my gut. I’m WAY too much in my head. Paralyzed at times as well.
Libra Sun/Moon/Jupiter/Mars.
Gotta dig in and use my Scorp rising, I think.
Thanks, Dixie!
The card helped! I’ve got more info coming this weekend (hopefully!), and then I’ll go from there. And yes, neither option is a happy one.
All the Libra in me just wants to walk away. And NOT come back. The Scorp rising wants to annihilate everything. (Right now that sounds like the most fun, but….I know all about karma.)
And I think I like the MEGA Libra tag! I will use it for powers of good!

Dixie,
To me, there’s some interesting things that caught my eye. Specifically, key words. The first key word in your blog post that drew my attention was: “backdrop”. In theatre, a backdrop provides context for the act and, in the case of the 2 of swords, the context is the thing which gives the reading meaning because there is no “meaning” apart from it’s context. Consider if the context is positive or negative. If one is not sure then the context is negative because if it were positive then you would be sure that it’s positive.
The second key word that caught my eye was the word “Heavy” as in the swords have “weight”. If one is having a “weighty” issue, then you’re right to “weight” or more correctly “wait”. Waiting is a good thing. As you said “measured moves” are slower and as everyone knows… it’s slow and steady that wins the race.
Know what I mean?
