Dixie’s Daily Tarot, September 29, 2010: Saturn in Pisces Fills the Void
Astrology Meets Tarot
Saturn often gets a bad rap, because he can be so damn depressing. Work, restriction and fear? Ugh. But he also provides structure, boundaries, and real, just rewards for all that hard work. Saturn in Pisces can provide epic trouble, but just as easily construct a stable, dependable springboard from which Pisces can transcend into new heights.
Today’s Tarot is the Eight of Cups, associated with Saturn in Pisces. I’ll most often see this card when someone is cutting their losses, turning their back something old and in the process of moving on. Notice the moon phases are depicted? Think seasons, as in an era ending. The figure moves decidedly toward the right, signaling leaving the past behind, walking toward mountains (accomplishments, goals) for the future. Eights often refer to movement, cycles, where stability and success can be attained through hard work and sometimes, sacrifice.
My Saturn is in Pisces in the 7th house. Growing up, my family’s faith (Pisces) seriously restricted (Saturn) my relationships (7th), largely due to fear (Saturn). Walking away from those restrictions into a larger world for the first time, I was as green as the spring grass. As a result, my first serious (Saturn) romantic relationships (7th) were with men who were mentally ill, alcoholic, and drug abusers (Pisces). I rebelled from the judgment I’d grown up with by exercising no discrimination. Having Virgo, I was initially convinced my endless capacity for love (Pisces) could help provide structure and foundation (Saturn) for healing in these relationships. Of course, that’s not how it played.
I could have easily spent my life redoing variations on this theme, but I sure didn’t want to! Instead, I opted to take responsibility (Saturn) for my choice of partner. I was the common denominator here, after all. I remained willing to sacrifice for love (Pisces) because this is my nature, but clarified the goal of not sliding into martyrdom. It helped to remember it does no one any favors to support and implicitly endorse insanity and dysfunction. It’s not a generous act.
I paired up instead with a man who was a little lost temporarily, finding his way through a messy divorce with a couple of kids in tow. I offered him grounding and support during that time and in turn, he offered me regard and respect that I hadn’t found with former partners. His high value of me changed how I valued me, and this changed the whole game! There certainly was work and sacrifice involved, becoming a wife and instant mother, with plenty of responsibilities to be met. But with a higher goal in my sights of creating home and family with a truly equal partner, that work had a point.
The Eight of Cups signals it’s time to let go, having accepted whatever losses you’ve suffered so you can integrate the lessons you’ve learned en route into your psyche. Your transformation may be emotional, material or spiritual, but whatever form, there is a shift. See this as a time to leave the pain behind and look with renewed resolve upon the mountains you’re preparing to climb. Every void gets filled, but you have to allow the void first.
Any other Saturn in Pisces folks? How do you see this placement working in real life?

Dixie,
I agree with what you said about “creating a void” first before trying to fill it. Elsa said the same thing in her video post.
Be Blessed!
Saturn in Pisces here. I relate a lot to what you say. Sacrificing for “love” to a very unhealthy point is a definite theme of mine.
I like your writing Dixie. It’s clear, concise, full of real experience and compassion. I appreciate what you are doing here.
Thanks Dixie–I just went and pulled a single card, and guess what it was?!
Hahaha! That’s a hoot, ruth. Does not surprise me at ALL.
Thank you, Stellium in Taurus.
Shannon, I was entirely convinced any second, this man was going to figure out who I really was and change his mind about the whole proposition. Any minute. Never happened. Sometimes it still amazes me. But there’s something about someone seeing the best in you, it brings more of it out. Being regarded that way makes you a better person.
