“If Astrology is a Language, How’s My Grammar?” by Nota

Your Basic Astrology Questions Answered

syntaxtreeSome one messaged me recently with a couple of questions. I thought they were good questions, so I’m sharing them with you.

Questions:  Which is it: Scorpio in Neptune? OR Neptune in Scorpio? Are Scorpio AND Neptune said to be in House 7?

Answers: The signs represent divisions of the ecliptic (the band the planets appear to travel through.) So, we say that a planet is in a sign.
Example: Neptune is IN Scorpio.

The house system also divides the sky based on the sign on the horizon at birth.   So, we say a planet is in a house, too.
Example: Neptune is IN my 7th house.

The signs and the houses overlap, so we do not say that a house is in a sign, rather we talk about the cusps (the lines that mark where the houses begin.) We say that the cusp of the house is in a sign.
Example: The cusp of my 7th is in Scorpio.

Of course, these get mixed around as people play fast and loose with syntax.

Examples:
I have Scorpio Neptune. (Meaning my Neptune is in Scorpio.)

I have Neptune in the 7th in Scorpio. (Meaning My Neptune is in Scorpio and it is in the 7th house)

Just remember... Planets go IN—>signs and houses; Signs and houses overlap. The beginning of a house is in a sign.

More examples:
My Saturn is in Libra. It is in the 2nd house.
My 2nd house Saturn is in Libra. ( Meaning my Saturn is in the 2nd house AND in Libra.)
My Libra Saturn is in the 2nd house.
My 2nd house is Virgo. (Meaning, My 2nd House begins in Virgo, or The cusp of my 2nd house is in Virgo.)

Hope that helps!

Whoa. Not only do I have a 7th house Neptune in Scorpio, but I have taken a whole class in drawing sentence structure trees like in the illustration. (Due to my Sun-Pallas-Mercury pile up in Gemini in the first house.)

O.o

That diagram brings back a lot of memories. I was a linguistics major for a while in university, but switched to sociology after discovering that linguistics was not for me — syntax especially.
