Dixie’s Daily Tarot, September 8, 2010: Wading in Details

Astrology Meets Tarot

eight-swords-zodiac-tarotI have been known to…uh, over communicate. Don’t call it lecturing, lest you wanna get decked. I prefer to call it “through.” I only try to be clear, accurate and complete. (Cough *Virgo-retentive* Cough) Sometimes, I forget to run it through the “Who really wants/needs/cares?” filter. Just because I run on details doesn’t mean rest of the world does. Just because I want to understand every nuance of every experience doesn’t mean that’s a universal preference. And just because I thought it (and maybe I’m even right about it, ‘cause I usually am) doesn’t mean somebody wants to hear it, for Goodness sakes. It’s not gifting to share my mildly compulsive tendencies with the world at large.

Today’s Tarot is the Eight of Clouds (Swords) from the Zodiac Tarot. Ruled by Jupiter in Gemini, the deck authors suggest this card means too much (Jupiter) information (Gemini).  Now,I get the idea. But being a Jupiter in Gemini native myself, I look on this scene with a dual perspective:  fondness over the hunt for truth and beauty of mental expansion, as well as acknowledging the overwhelming nature of endless seeking. Jupiter in Gemini has a tendency to overdo it.

sword08sTherein lies the trap. You lose your perspective. The traditional version of this card shows a sort of trapped woman. Her bindings are loose and the swords aren’t really confining her anyway. But for the time being, she’s accepting the situation. Remaining blindfolded, she has no perspective on her dilemma. The danger here is focusing exclusively on individual bits of information without taking into account the full horizon.

We keep coming back to what really matters versus what doesn’t. Whether I’m communicating or consuming information, there is a point of diminishing returns.  Becoming over-saturated in details turns into procrastination and paralysis, if allowed to run unfettered. Giving more than wanted encroaches upon others and alienates. And if I’m wrapped up in who said what to whom, it’s obsessing over transitory circumstance over assessing and acting upon what’s the main goal and highest good. I can lose my way quickly.

The Eight of Clouds tells me good enough is just that—good enough. He encourages me to be attuned to balance, requirements of the situation, while doing my best to respect others’ boundaries. Share with the folks who appreciate what you’re sharing. It’s wonderful to be able to process and appreciate the nuance. Just don’t lose your sense of the bigger picture in the process of examining the strokes. Keep your highest intention prominent to serve as your compass, and you never be far lost.

Do you see the forest for the trees? Got any Jupiter/Gemini stories?

Dixie, Thanks again for some timely words… My Pluto/Uranus conjunction in Virgo 5th house makes me go into that space at times. I get wound-up and sometimes have trouble moderating all of the outflow of ideas and words… Jupiter in Aries 11th house… My enthusiasm gets away from me at times… It’s a good thing for you to remind us to let the audience dictate the subject. That way, like you said – run it through that filter to see if anyone really cares or wants to know… Gotta write that on a sticky note!

aye! I have Saggie ASC and chart ruler Jupiter in Gemini in my 6th House.

“Becoming over-saturated in details turns into procrastination and paralysis, if allowed to run unfettered.”

LOL. It’s in opposition to Neptune…I like to joke about my ‘pogo stick into space’.

On the plus side, I’m very trainable in the workplace and great at accumulative knowledge. Give me 85,000 details of how you want the job done and I will remember. In fact I just wrote about this in a cover letter (too bad it’s an unpaid position) and was offered an interview within hours of applying.

Sagittarian – I am finding myself using it as a quick reference to find the Astrology for cards when using other decks. And the artwork is cool!

Thanks for talking about this card. I see where overanalyzing leads to someone not knowing which way to turn. One can get overwhelmed with too much detail, and have to push and wade through the most relevant facts to in order to act or decide.

Even if a few people got oversaturated with too much detail, many people will eventually process it and be willing to see the truth you tried to share with them. A day comes, an experience happens, and the “AHA” light bulb moment of relection flashes.

It’s amazing to be capable of retaining 85,000 details like chrispito. I do not; but having three planets in Virgo, I do enjoy the ability of focusing on something small and seeing the whole world around it.

Something that I’ve spent years working on–keeping the important stuff and letting the rest fall away. Being picky, but not too picky. Learning when it’s ‘good enough.’
