Is There A Correlation Between Greed And Happiness? Poll

Ask the collective

greedy pigFrom 2008, I was talking to my husband:

“I just don’t get it,” I said.

“Well don’t get mad, P.”

“I’m not mad, I’m curious. I don’t know these people. I’m not mad at people who have injured me directly, why would I be mad at people I don’t even know? You’re interested in war, I’m interested in people and their thoughts and behavior. If someone made an odd decision in war you’d think about it and I’m fascinated over how people choose to live because it often makes no sense at all.”

“Most of this can be explained by greed,” he said. “Most people are greedy and you ought to try to be as selfless as you can. Selfless not selfish. The less selfish you can be the better off you are.”

“Hmm.”

“Yeah, so I try to be as selfless as I possibly can. You are naturally not very selfish. I try as hard as I can and think you are even less selfish than I am.”

I laughed. “Well that’s a trick because I don’t try at all,” I said, figuring he was talking about something “Catholic”.

gold“Oh, P.”

“Well I don’t. I don’t think I am very greedy except for when it comes to you. When it comes to you I am a maniac. You know all kinds of people want your energy and on this front I am a greedy pig,” I said.

“Well I am greedy when it comes to you too but I don’t think that counts.”

“Anyway, P is like diving for gold. There is gold everywhere but you can only stay down so long or you know you’re going to get the bends. But people do it. They’re just greedy and it does them in eventually.”

“Well I am not going to worry about this. Not only do I not want more than my share, I don’t think I even want my share to tell the truth. I want the people around me to have whatever they want but personally I want as little as possible, I think you know this.” (Venus Neptune, Pisces on the 2nd…)

“Yeah, I know it.”

How Greedy Are You?

Do you think a person’s level of greediness correlates with their level of happiness? Got Taurus? How does Venus and/or the 2nd house look in your chart?

Oh, I’m the first one to take the quiz. Moderately Greedy, I say! I’m not completely selfless, as I don’t see how that helps anyone if you aren’t giving yourself what you need, yet, I do like to give myself away physically- for others pleasure and my own. :)

But there is balance, isn’t there? I try to be as realistic as possible and see through what just might be waxing and waning periods of self-absorption versus being “too caught up” in everyone else’s b.s.

Delicate balance, indeed.

I’m not sure how greed/happiness correlate. Its a complex question. On the one hand if you’re greedy you always want more/are more prone to dissatisfaction, on the other you have the thrill when you get what you want Whoo! Yay!

I have Chiron in Taurus, Venus in Sagittarius in the 12th, my second house is ruled by Capricorn, (no planets) and saturn cnj Jupiter in the ninth. I can be very greedy at times but I give a lot of stuff away too.

I understand the concept of going for what you want and I think it’s our human right to be happy. I’m not completely selfless, but I don’t step on others’ shoes either. It’s natural to keep wanting more as you get more. My 2nd house is empty with Capricorn on the cusp. I have Saturn in the “Fun House” exactly opposing Venus. I’ll probably never be rich. Oh well….

i don’t know how to answer that. greed as a word has negative connotations but i assume we’re talking about wanting more money and possessions…but that’s kinda like asking if violence is bad. it can be, y’kno? or it can be used for positive ends.

i do like to have money and stuff, yeah. sun and pluto in my second in virgo. money allows me to do helpful things for myself and others. uranus cusping- money buys freedom.

am i willing to hurt others to get it? no. am i appreciative of what i have-hell yes! so is that greedy or not? i dunno. i don’t want to take from others what they have. matter of fact, it makes me happy to see others have, too. i just like having as well…

Venus in Taurus in the 2nd! But I don’t think I’m all that greedy, relatively speaking… I just want enough to keep all my bills paid and a little left over for creature comforts and some travel once in a while. I could be happy living in my cozy little house for the rest of my life. And I’ve never been tempted to marry for money.

relationships, comfort, art and beauty. i can live without a lot of things but i am happy that i do not have to. i have a lot of empathy for people that do not have a lot. i am charitable. i have learned to celebrate the success of others. i try and remember to not compare myself to others, because there will always be greater and lesser persons than myself. having wealth does not necessarily make you a better person, sometimes the opposite is true. i remind myself that there is no wealth but life. my work involves teaching others about finances and making financial plans. it also involves hiring and training others, so that they can teach others about finances. there are a lot of honourable professions out there and i feel my profession is an honourable one. the gift to me is helping others which gives me a sense of purpose and affords me a comfortable lifestyle. it also forces me to be out there in the world living and learning. i do not think that it is greed to provide for yourself, your family and others, but i am very cognizant of my good fortune. i am very grateful. most of us in the western world are so very fortunate. i am also proud of some of my friends and family who have gone above and beyond the call of duty and volunteer in such places as africa helping women and children with aids. there comittment is incredible! i support them with my heart and soul and cash. i am sorry that this comment has a beginning, a middle and no end. i guess what i am saying is that i think that it is ok to strive for wealth and comfort, but it should include helping others and giving back. and when i retire from this career i will wear tie-dye shirts, swim in the sea, sleep in the afternoon, grow flowers and vegetables, write and paint somwhere near hornby island.

Moon Mars conjunct in the 2nd, Jupiter in Taurus in the 4th, Venus in Gemini in the 5th, barely conjunct Mercury – I’ve been quite greedy lately, but it’s been for my own good. I’d call it pampering.

Mars, Pluto and Uranus are activating some t-squares in my chart, Jupiter is over my ascendant, I’m becoming my chart.

greedy for what? i’ve got pluto in the second opposite venus in the 8th and i’m not terribly attached to “stuff” but i obsessively collect things with “(feels) good energy.”

of course, it’s easy to “collect” walks in the mountains with my kid.

i dunno.

it’s been a learning experience to figure out appropriate times to let go of what i do have if i no longer need it. but with venus/neptune in interaction i just need to recognize the need to let go and it’s pretty easy. once i see it. (seeing it is the trick.)

I appreciate anything that is beautiful but don’t need to have it as my possession….what I am greedy about is my time with my family…and extremely possessive about that. I have Libra in my 2 house square my cap stellium in the 5 house. I do have a rich love of life and love sharing that with others. One of my biggest challenges is the fact that my husband is a workaholic and I keep telling him that we have plenty and don’t NEED anything else except ourselves. And, I don’t see that it is greed that drives his working habits….that is innate in him….Virgo/Gem/Scor…he lives to work, hopefully this will change when Saturn goes into Libra!!! Crossing my fingers!!!

Toni, you got that right. in fact they tend to claim they are generous every chance they get, I think it’s hysterical.

I don’t think I am greedy, not money wise or resurce wise. If I have I shair(cant spell.argh!!). But I have been burned on being generous , and I see my closest friends too being taken advantage off. There is something about people starting to take for granted the fact that you allways manage to help them out, so they start only relying on you .,and eventually they feel entitled to your money as much you are.
I have made a deal with my best friend, who is extremely generous ; If they would do the same for you ,go ahead if not don’t bother and let them get help elsewhere… I might be mean , but it is so easy to get used.

I am emotionally greedy but I have my reasons. And I have to be because if not I get very angsty

I have 2nd house moon in leo, mars in taurus 11th, venus in aries 10th..jupiter in the 8th

Moon 2nd house in Pisces… not greedy. I’m with denamarie, I love beautiful places and things, but I’d rather admire and enjoy others’ beautiful things and places, rather than owning them. I totally understand Elsa’s statement about ‘wanting as little as possible.’

Do I want more, yes (16th month of unemployment). Am I willing to hurt others, take advantage of others to get what I want? NO! Actually, my problem is being generous to a fault.

Sun & Mercury in 2nd house…. yeah I’m greedy. Or at the very least I’m quite possessive about my “things”. Never was aware of this until moved in with younger brother, then his wife & her uncle pointed it out to me. Now I try to make it clear that it’s OK to use something of mine….. just make sure to put it back. I, ummm, tend to “flip out” when I can’t find something of mine.

I am not possessive and I am not into money. I am willing to share my things with others.
My second house is leo. My venus is aquarius in the 7th house. My 11th house is taurus and empty.

Barely greedy at all. My second house is intercepted. Half is taurus, the other half Gemini. Saturn sits on Gemini in the 2nd square sun/venus conjunction in the 6th. I seem to always have enough. I’ve never really felt that I needed much. I really don’t think I deserve more than I need. Luckily, I have Jupiter in the 8th conjunct neptune, so money seems to pop up when I need it, but like I said it’s always just enough. Never more than I need.

Barely greedy here. I’m not particularly proud of that, the greedy people may or may not be happy but certainly they are very rich or have lots of stuff. I usually make gifts or help friends who want it or need it, learned with Elsa That is my leo energy (Leo anD Jupiter) that makes me happy and enlightens me. However sometimes I am sorry not being very sucessfull with money. (Desert 2nd house)
However think If I had been greedy I would not have the love and friendship of many people who loves me and appreciates me, not particularly because of gifts. I have four planets on 11th house, it could be the cause.
I agreee with your husband, if your center is out of you, you will be happy. May be the psyche of people is made in that way. I understand however the administration of energy, because it is true: I stole energy of my scorpions friends they are as generators of energy or something like that, learned that in this blog too.

…to explain my previous post I comment you an episode, one of my brother call him Abel goes to the hospital at risk of death, my other brother (call him Cain) fled in disguise and said to me, “please take charge of these administrative procedures”, I was asked to sign documents for what I would be seized if the health insurance company did not pay, like every Libra, having an lawyer inside I fight for the reformulation of the documents, however signed anyway, because my brother could die in the delay. My brother was saved, the insurance company did not pay the bills, but I was not seized (because of reformulated document) althoug I could have been losed all my things. “Abel” after that episode helped me in many financial situations. And I think we’re good friends now, he is a Scorpio ASC. I have venus in 11th house

i want the resources to actually accomplish some of the things i see needing to be done in the world.
i want a home that’s comfortable enough that i feel at peace and capable of focusing and letting my guard down in it.
i want growing things and their energy around.

a lot of it isn’t terribly costly, or necessarily have much to do with money, but is quite important to me.
