I think there is tremendous benefit to using astrology when it comes to parenting. It saves the both the parents and child all kinds of grief.
For example, I am very speedy but don’t expect my Taurean son to go or do anything, quickly. He’s reliable but where I pop out of bed, ready for action, he takes at least 45 minutes and preferably an hour before his furnace kicks in. Knowing this, I ignore it when “getting up for school”, means getting out of bed and moving into the living room to lie on the couch. Without astrology, I’d probably be complaining about that.
My son has a Libra Moon so I know he does not like to be alone. I accommodate this by having his best friend over, virtually every day. He has an emotional need to partner and this is very satisfying to him.

I didn’t (my son is 23 now) but sure wish I would have known more then. (that hindsight thing Elsa, lol)

I´m a taurus with 2 kids: i look like a pinwheel lol
libra and piscis
my daughter Iris (7 years) piscis has mars in capricorn, she doesn´t move, blows up when I Say: hurry up
she does not see the world as we see it, she has to take her time.
I have to show all the good side of the world, … to decides what she wants (brain working)
Super intelligent libra, no problem with my Sabrina.
Yes, my son has a Gemini moon trine Merc in Aquarius – I’ve learned to get to the point quickly or I’ve lost him:) With a Pisces sun, when he gets upset about something, a hug and sympathy snaps him out of it, whereas chivvying him along just makes him worse. His slow Taurus ascendant is often crashing into his Aries Mars (NOW, NOW!) so I’ve learned to let him find his own level, and pay no attention to his (often loud) expressions of frustration.
I’m a Taurus Sun with Libra Moon like your son, and I certainly wish my parents had understood what you do… He is amazingly blessed to have you as his mom!
I don’t plan on having children but I’ve used astrology to understand kids that I’ve babysat in the past, and it helped tremendously.
Yes definately, my son is only three but I check his chart/transits every couple of days. I also wish my mum had been into astrology maybe she would have more of an insight!
I’m a Taurus Sun/Libra Moon too!
I wish my mom would have used Astrology as well, since even today at 20, it takes me at least half an hour to get outta bed and when I was younger, she’d do anything [ even tickle my feet! ] to try to wake me up, which.. obviously didn’t do either of us well.
I’m definitely going to refer to astrology when I have children.
I’m not a parent, but I did turn my co-worker on to astrology and she is digging around using the knowledge to parent her two preteen sons and it has been a revelation to her and her husband. I love hearing her stories!
You know, I’ve never really felt a strong urge to have you do a consultation for me, but reading this now I’m thinking it would be cool to have a consultation re: my chart and my daughter’s chart for this purpose.
I absolutely keep some things in mind, like the fact that her Aries Rising drives her with a burning energy that I can’t even begin to comprehend with my Lazy Libra Sun and my Airy Aquarius Rising. But there are other things I’m sure I could stand to understand about her. She’s a quintessential Aquarius (her sun sign) in some ways, but he’s got a Taurus…Mars, I think. I should look at that again.
Anyway, all of this to say I should look at the budget and see about a consultation with you about this. It’s definitely a bit beyond my levels.
Absolutely. Although I didn’t know the astrology at the time, my son is a Pisces and I’ve got a stellium in Pisces myself, so I intuitively knew what I was dealing with, and his chart since has proven that I was on the right track. I never had to yell, scream or make threats… All I ever had to do was touch on his emotions, like, “I’m disappointed (or sad, confused, etc) that you did XYZ.” and that was all it took.
I’ve long believed that astrology ought to be taught in school, as part of an ongoing curriculum from grade school through to high school.
People would understand each other better, in all types of relationships, including parent-child (both ways).
Quite so SF, and it’s sad to think that until relatively recently (C19th?) a knowledge of astrology was routine for any educated person, including heads of state and their advisors (didn’t stop a whole lot of wars however lol).
I was SUCH a Cap child – it would have been wonderful to have parents who understood all that
Yes, but I’m a little baffled by the fact that my daughter with her Taurus Sun and Aries Rising is described by the daycare staff as being laid back, easygoing and well-grounded! But she is!gotta go look at her chart again!
My daughter is a Taurus, so she has that graaaaadual getting up thing, too. But what I pay most attention to is that Scorpio rising with Mars retrograde on the Ascendant. She has deep emotions and wants so badly to act on them, and I have to guide her to channel that stuff in socially appropriate ways. She is an incredible artist, so she can draw blood and guts and skeletons and crosses all she wants at my house to express it, but I make it very clear that if any of that stuff makes it to school, it will not be understood by the staff and just may label her as problematic. Having that practical Virgo Moon, she understands, and I think she appreciates having someone to walk her through what’s appropriate and what is not out there in the world. I have Mars retro in Scorpio, too, so I’ve been there, I understand her, and I try to provide her with the (appropriate, yet underground) outlets no one ever gave me.
SF and BP, that would be brillisnt – astro at school – imagine also having some kind of energy / healing classes. Once you understand something like reiki, you can never hurt anyone. I come from a town where gang violence is a big thing and at present, our education system is a big mess and teachers are striking. Wow, imagine really transforming school learning…
I am totally indebted to astrology for walking through the many tight situations that having 2 teenagers can get a mother into. With people not understanding, being unaware and falling back on old ways to solve teenage-authority dynamics, it is so helpful to step back, take a look at transits and patterns and to help from that perspective and not a raw, ‘in your face’ act and react position.
My 16 year old boy sent me a message the other day asking whats up in the stars from his boarding school because teachers were coming down on him heavily. It felt good him asking. Also, have noticed that when other adults put me down due astrology, my children (16 and 13) defend me – with smiles, of course.
Your last para, that totally rocks, diastella!
I introduced a friend of mine to tarot and astrology a few years ago and now her son, like yours, asks about stuff. Kids “get” these concepts very easily.

uhm, recognizing my kiddo has a major stellium in leo helps tremendously with my saturn leo’s ability to recognizing that the grandstanding, melodrama, and attention demanding are simply natural to him, and i may be better off trying to push it in more creative directions than clamping down…
