Dixie’s Daily Tarot, August 13, 2010: The Yin and the Yang Of Justice

Astrology Meets Tarot

DSCN1226My life is an ongoing quest for balance. Peace, harmony, and balance. At one point, I even scratched it on a piece of paper and tacked it up by my front door. So I would see it every time I left the house: “balance.” I have a yin-yang tattoo, and I always wear a yin-yang charm around my neck. Maybe it’s that seventh house I’m always complaining about, Saturn and the seventh in Pisces. For me, so much of the time it’s either too much or too little. Seeking balance is my eternal quest.

I had to laugh when I saw this card after seeing Elsa’s forecast for today. Nothing says balance or Libra like Justice! The women pictured here have taken the facts in hand. One is holding documents, representing the facts, the other a sword — the symbol of clear, rational thought cutting through the situation. The scale they are supporting is reminiscent of a pendulum, both the Yin and Yang, light and dark, yes and no are represented.

I have been known to abandon to the concept of fairness in favor of feeling good. I may be aware inequity in relationship, but choose to reframe it in order to maintain the illusion of fairness. I’ll come up with reasons why, I’ll just see myself as a particularly loving, giving person who can rise above and overcome. I may even consider it a gift, although in truth it’s actually the opposite.

Any time you take on an unbalanced relationship and maintain it, you’re perpetuating an untenable situation. By default, you’re declaring yourself superior, if you’re taking on more than your share consistently. The subtext is that you’re stronger, better, more capable. If you taking on less than your share, you’re declaring yourself inferior, unable to pull your own weight. Either way, it’s not balance. Without balance, you can’t have a true partnership.

I’ve been thinking about the conversations here, on the Daily Tarot comments, on the boards, and on closure. It’s pretty clear I have some issues I’d like to put to bed. That’s not going to happen through emotional angst, rehashing, who did or said what, or carrying the perpetual torch of martyrdom.

Justice tells me I’ll find the answers I seek through balance, fairness, and a rational evaluation. Justice advises a compromise in the sense that all sides of the question must be integrated. How I got to the place where the decisions are being made is irrelevant. What matters is moving forward with an even hand, pure heart, and dedication to doing the best I can maintaining equity in all my action. That’s very doable.

How’s your emotional balance coming along?

haha funny you got that card! :)

this post reminds me about the buddhist concept of equanimity – one of the states of mind that can help you to become enlightened. It’s kind of a detached inner balance.

Unfortunately, I don’t have time to read the entire post right this moment, but am chuckling inside that today’s card would be Justice. I just spent the morning at the court house in regards to my son. After all the deep soul diving on mother/family issues to get a Justice card on this day…we’ll that’s a good chuckle!

“Emotional Balance” has never been my forte – have gotten better at it as I have aged, but no-one would ever describe me as “Calm Cool and Collected”.

My husband and I take on “more than our share” in different areas of our life together, so I do think it balances out in the end. He worked his ass off to obtain a secure career that supports us. He never turns down work – he has always said the most important thing for him is to take care of us.

I most definitely have taken on the main role in dealing with my daughter’s issues – but I have able to devote all that time to it because he keeps the roof over our heads. I work too, but my salary is very low.

What I see coming down the line for us is that I will be working full-time at a career I want while he will take on more of a role with our daughter, so we will have come full circle.
