Dixie’s Daily Tarot, August 6, 2010: Choosing with Integrity

Astrology Meets Tarot

7-cupsLately, themes in my own life and those around me have all involved choice. Implied by all the twos we’ve been seeing in the quest for balance, you often have to make a definitive call on direction. By default, choosing one direction means not choosing the other. Any existentialist can tell you, even avoiding choice is making a choice.

Today’s Tarot is the 7 of Cups.  The lady here is emotionally pulled toward each of the seven options represented by the contents of the cups, emphasized by the watery background and, of course, the moon. (In this deck, the moon appears in all the cards, representative of the mystery uncovered by Tarot, so there’s less weight in individual interpretations.)  Astrologically, this card is associated with Venus in Scorpio—the emotional drive surrounding choosing runs deep.

cups07sSevens are about taking control, thinking things through to make informed choices, thereby harnessing energy. We have lots of energy to harness right now! It’s obviously powerful–just not always clear how best to direct it.  In particular, this card often points to confusion, difficulty making choices. The seven of cups also implies that not all choices will necessarily beneficial, or what they appear to be. Discrimination is in order. The spiritual vibe of sevens serves here if we can make those choices in accordance with the higher values we want to embody.

I just heard from a business partner about buying out my stake in our shared business dealings, providing another moment of choice. He was generous, taking credit for his own role in what isn’t working, without forcing me to do the same. I found that very gracious—especially since my role was more significant. I took credit for my own liabilities anyway, because it’s the right thing to do, but appreciated not being smacked in the face with it. Being very Virgo, I am on intimate terms with my shortcomings and would just as soon not see them outlined in detail by others.

I could have dreamed up the future, what I might do, what it might become, unto eternity. It would have been easy enough. Some clear thinking and honest assessment, however, left me convinced moving on is the bet option for all concerned. Saturn in Libra demands balance that simply wasn’t there. As it was, I was given an exit that leaves more energy for everybody to focus on what is working best.

Just with all the choices I’m facing, I am still working my one-step-up plan. I’m always looking for the next better place, the next higher motivation, the next brighter light. The seven of cups reminds me to take control of my choices and make them consciously as opposed to by default. For the best result, clear thinking with an eye always for integrity doesn’t steer wrong.

Do you feel good about how you’re making the choices you’ve got right now?

I am stuck in a situation – trying to decide if I should try a new medication for my daughter. It is regarding an ongoing disorder she has – I am just stuck, frozen. Did all the research, and still, I just don’t know what to do. This resonates so much with me because just this morning I was thinking that I have to just try it, or I will never know. Making these decisions wears me down in ways I can’t even begin to describe.

I am faced with lots of choices right now too – professionally and personally and am frozen with indecision. Maybe Libra rising has me weighing the options more than normal?

(((dorothy))) Those are very hard decisions to make for someone you love.
