Dixie’s Daily Tarot, July 18, 2010: Tending My Own Garden
Astrology Meets Tarot
“It’s probably a good thing our daughter moved so far away,” I tell my husband.
“Why?”
“Well, I don’t like it. I miss her a ton! But when she’s that far away, Mom can’t step in and make everything easy for her anymore. I’m bad about that. She needs to feel her own pain, figure out her own life. I want to sail in and fix!” (7th House Pisces)
Sevens in Tarot are about control—particularly self-control—and often point to acting upon convictions. The Seven of Pentacles, associated with Saturn in Taurus, is the “waiting for the harvest” card. The woman here has sown, tended, and is preparing to reap her harvest. She’s looking ahead, dreaming and waiting for her efforts to reach ripeness.
Once you’ve given what you’ve got, it’s time to let go of attachment to outcome. At this point, all that’s left is seeing how your previous efforts interact with the weather. You’ve done what you can do, and what’s next is out of your hands. It’s both frightening and liberating.
I always loved the feeling of walking out of a classroom after finals. I wasn’t smug about testing. The release was a rush. I was happy to let go, knowing it was no longer in my hands.
Other times, the letting go doesn’t feel as good. When the realization hit me that my kids could grow up to be jerks—and there was nothing I could do about it—it smacked me like a brick. I felt ill. I still may not always like it, but I’ve grown to accept it with at least some grace. And it sure feels a lot better than holding on to a sense of responsibility about behavior you don’t control.
The Seven of Pentacles tells us to tend to our own plants, and leave others tending to theirs. Beyond the relief of letting go, there is gift in the lull. You can dream, reflect, and realign. Focus on what you do truly have control over—doing your best, assessing your efforts, and anticipating your harvest. Relax, enjoy and fine-tune your perspective.
How are your plants coming along?

Nice, Dixie. I feel the same. You do what you can, then step back and wait patiently, with love!

the plants are slowing coming in to their own. I have been tending to them for years.I did let it go for a bit. Though I nurtured them along the way and finally seeing a bud. This rich deep multicolored bloom finally is beginning to open and I was surprised have beautiful it is. There is a few things to still tend to, though the opening of the bloom is like a child seeing a rainbow for the first time. Wide-eyed and filled with wonder.
