Open Question: Can Our Polarized Society Bridge It’s Differences And Come Together? Saturn Opposite Uranus…
Ask the collective
A few days ago, I asked on the boards: How would you propose healing the divide in the United States. There were some interesting remarks but I think I asked the wrong the question.
Saturn and Uranus were opposed during the 2008 election. The country was divided at that time… it has been for awhile and if anything the two sides are more polarized than ever.
Saturn and Uranus will oppose again the last week of April, 2010 and again, July 2010 and I wonder if others are beginning to think as I am – that the two sides may never come together.
This would change our country dramatically as we are the “United States” so here is my new question:
Do you think our polarized society can bridge it’s differences and come together? If not, what consequences do you see?

Unfortunately, I don’t think there will be any bridges built. As much as I want people to be compassionate and care about one another, it’s just not a trait that much more than 5% of the population shares. People can’t come together if they can’t see the other side of the coin.
Consequences? There are too many to predict…
It’s not that people can’t see the other side of the coin, it’s that they don’t want to see the other side of the coin. They only care about their side of the coin.
Toni, I agree. I think people can see the other side of the coin and they want nothing to do with it.
I don’t think the sides of the opposition will come together, at least not as they are, but the pressure will forge a new coin – which will in turn have two sides that over time will oppose, etc… That’s how history (though not necessarily humanity) moves forward.
We also don’t want to forget that while this is happening here, other things are happening somewhere else that can easily play a role in the forge too.
Some can see the other side, undoubtedly. There are a hell of a lot that are completely blind and/or misinterpret the other side too.
Hmm… I don’t always think it’s peoples’ egos that are the only problem. I think there are MANY other factors. I mean the collective has so many ideas; it’s messy and things are bound to get mixed up and misunderstood. It’s just so much energy to take in.
The thing is, the sides are poised as “opposite,” but really that is an illusion, as much an illusion as the idea that black people and white people are different in any way but color. What we want is probably about 95% the same, and yet all of our emphasis and all of our focus and all of our energy is on the 5% that is different. It seems to be the nature of human consciousness right now to seek out negativity and difference. People have to want unity and want to see the similarities. They did after 9/11.
Well, I’m not certain if my country is still completely in terms with the natal chart Leo- Acquarius Saturn-Uranus opposition (that of the Russian Revolution). And we are only going through our first Pluto/Pluto opposition…
I do think that the country can unite again. I hope it will not be on account of a tragedy such as 9/11, but that incident proved that yes, our country can stand united, even if for a short time. Perhaps it will be an environmental crisis or attack of the sea creatures from Algol or even a huge celebration, but we do have the ability to come together if necessary. After all, the Saturn/Uranus opposition will eventually end. It’s all cycles and the only constant is change.
I agree with Tinaroma-alot of the polarization is illusion and manipulation by various talking heads. There are very few original thinkers. People adopt views that they hear constantly in the media. I think there is intentional manipulation of the public. Most Americans (people for that matter) want basically the same things.
Over the next several years, we will see domestic terrorism come back in a big way, led by right-wing reactionaries, white supremacists, and militias. The GOP will grow smaller and more nasty. The Democrats will push hard in the favor of big business to soak up corporate cash that used to go to the GOP. Progressives will get marginalized, and discover that they were really sold a bill of goods when they voted for Obama.
We could actually see a couple new viable political parties assert themselves out of this mess.
Not to be racist , or anything , but white people here ( or the ruling power in the USA ) will not change soon . Just look at the wars , the opposition to universal health care , and the neglect of the environment … and the greed , and look no farther to see that things won’t change overnight . Maybe , slowly , but surely , but in the meantime the sufferung victims of the world will continue .
The ruler in chief in the USA right now is black. I don’t think race has anything to do with it.
“Not to be racist or anything”, Tom? Pinning a country’s ills on a certain race is what got the Jews exterminated. Our problems are a lot more complex than Whitey keeping you down.
well, i’m marrying the other side of the coin. we still have a lot in common.
you can find something in common with anyone. the question is whether we’ll find the will to work together… and what will be the focus we’re working against? humans have a bad habit of making that antagonist another group of people… othering them, projecting a lot of shadow on them, thus dehumanizing them to make scapegoats out of them.
i don’t think we’ve evolved past that yet. as much as i’d like to hope otherwise.

In my opinion we have been polarized since the first European stepped foot in North America. If you go back and study the American Revolution not everyone was for declaring independence from Great Britain.
As a case in point, one of my maternal ancestors hung one of my fraternal ancestors for being a Tory.
You can’t grow if everyone is the same.
