The soldier and I spend a fair amount of time talking about how things would have been had we married as kids and spent our lives together. “When this happened to you, I’d have done that…” one or the other of us will say.

This may sound wistful or wishful but it’s not really like that. It is a way to get to know each other, to better understand ourselves and each other and it is also very healing. We are both pretty visceral (Neptune) so in a sense we go back and re-live these various points in our lives, some of them are pretty dire and when we hear how the other would have cheered us with some kind of antic, it always brings a smile.

This weekend we were at the doc for the soldier and this is a real phenomenon – no one has ever gone to the doctor with the soldier in his life (since he was a kid). He’s been blown up, shot, bones broken, all kinds of stuff, much of it hideous but for whatever reason no one ever showed up. No one visited him the hospital – whatever. There was just simply no one there and now there is and he likes it.

I like it too. It has nothing to do with the doctor, I just like the soldier period and we enjoy ourselves wherever we are so if we happened to be in the hospital… well it makes no matter to me. We have banter and a chemistry that travels and adapts to whatever terrain or scenario. We really don’t know the difference between the emergency room and the line to get a sandwich at the sub shop and that’s a fact.

If we were headed to our own executions, I guarantee we’d be talking back and forth.

“P, look what you got us into this time. Why did you do it, P? When we get up there, I’m going to have to kick some asses for sure.  I am going to have to kill me some motherfuckers for sure.  We’ll be lucky if we get out of this alive.  Why do you have to get us in trouble like this all the time, P, why?”

“Oh for Godsakes, it’s not my fault. You have tattoos of your own you know. Do you think you’re a small-mouthed person?”
