I met the soldier in Salina, Kansas this weekend like old times. If you’re new here, I spent about a year driving around the country meeting the soldier on the road in 14 states as I recall. Basically if he got stopped withing 600 miles or so (1200 round trip), I would to drive to meet him, usually for just one night and we had many terrific adventures doing this.

He finally got moved here about 18 months ago and we do this much less frequently but we still take every opportunity to be together and Saturday morning a chance like this cropped up. We never miss a chance because… because we’re not stupid so when he called me with a plan, I was packed and in the car within an hour.

We have met in a number of cities and various towns and we have been to Salina before. I like the place, people are very nice there, to an extent where you have to acknowledge it. The soldier and I have a weird vibe going, maybe you notice and one of the reasons I always opt to drive to see him is something always happens and I hate to miss things.

The last time we were in Salina, I had a laptop and I checked my blog and saw that someone else in the town was on my blog in the moment, the soldier and I were going out to dinner and this was the first time it occured to me we might run into someone who recognized us… or at least me and I was struck by this.

The other thing that happened was the solider turned the History channel on the way he is prone to and there was a story on there about some event. I was sort of staring it it blankly, he was putting on his shoes so we could go out and he started talking about the event in an intimate way.

It took me a minute or so to realize he was telling me was there. :::smiles:: I sort of did a double take. “You were part of this?” I asked.

He verified this, finished putting on his shoes and then off we went to dinner with me feeling his history in a new way and wondering who lived in Salina that we could possibly run into.
