The soldier is stuck unexpectedly although by now we should expect it as he is 9 days later getting home.
“Good thing I got two movies,” the soldier said. ‘I watched the scary one last night, now I guess I’ll have to watch the other one.” he said sounding totally disappointed and dejected.
“What’s the other one? What wrong with it?” I asked.
“Oh, it’s homework,” he said with a heavy Southern twang on the “work” part. “I have to watch this movie for my homework.”
“Well what kind of homework is it?”
“Oh, it’s an emotional movie. It’s a movie with romance and emotion, it’s about some guy and some gal… they get separated…” he says trailing off.
I chuckled.
“Yeah, I have to watch this stuff, P, I do it for you,” he said with a heavy sigh. “I have to do this emotion homework so I can be a better man for you. I have to figure this shit out, I’ve just got to do it.”
I didn’t say anything.
“I do it because I love you, P, that’s all. That’s the only reason. If it wasn’t for you I’d never watch a movie like this in my life but as it is, I’ve got to suffer.”
This makes sense. Do you know how many war movies I’ve seen?

must be my taurus, but i always feel so happy when i think of two people who love each other getting to see each other. i love your posts on the soldier.
it’s a good movie, and set in war. the main musical theme is debussy’s clair d’lune which is fabulous. depressing tho. maybe all the war stuff will cheer him up.
“We Were Soldiers once and young” is one of my favorite war movies. “The Right Stuff” is not a war movie, but loads of fun.
What kind of movies do you like to watch, Elsa? I didn’t know/think that emotion movies like Atonement were your bag. I thought you were more of a Leon the Professional and Lawn Dogs kind of girl.
Yeah, he’s on his own picking that movie… he got it from a truck stop for his purposes and not by my suggestion in any way. I actually think the soldier is fine the way he is, I enjoy him immensely, always. However he does this stuff, he likes to train and he also reads books written by people he considers morons so he can analyze their thinking, yell and complain about it and know about his enemy.
I like all this stuff that he does so you know. No complaints.
oh and the soldier likes Leon, I think. I don’t know that he’s seen Lawn Dogs but probably because he’d have read about it on my other blog so probably watched it 50 times, studied it but never said anything and either did I.
He did have the AMF and I watch Secondhand Lions when we got talking again and I thought that was pretty… er… well, neither of us missed his point, let’s say. I was pretty surprised by that. Basically I thought, WHAT THE HELL.
We never talk about this stuff you know. The soldier got a song for me for about that time, it’s horribly sad. I only listened to it once in my life and probably will never listen to it again but he likes to (or happens to) find these songs that are very meaningful and connected to us in some way.
Jeez, Dina, I’d forgot about this – Venus retrograde…
Atonement… Good movie. I personally wish this movie could’ve been strengthened but overall – a very good movie
I’m sorry the soldier is late Elsa.
James McAvoy is TO DIE FOR! Don’t think he’ll od much for the soldier though…

Fairs fair! But good for him! Missing my hubby too – just talked to him funny enough – asked me what I was wearing! Don’t think he had ‘romance’ on his mind!!!!
