Some years ago I was in the grocery store. I picked up a case of bottled water and put in my cart. There was an older man standing there and he asked me what I was doing. He basically wanted to know just what kind of stupid fool I was.
“You’re going to pay for water?” he asked.
“Well, yeah,” I said.
I looked at his cart and saw it loaded with soda. It crossed my mind to ask him similar. “Are you going to pay for that sugar water that rots your teeth, makes you fat, eats acid off a battery and has no nutritional value whatsoever?”
But since I have Libra, I held my tongue. “Yes I am going to pay for this water,” I said. “Apparently I am a foolish fool.”
And I walked away struck by the completely different perspectives both of them with obvious merit.
I will pay for health any day of the week. What about you?
Do you have Virgo in your chart?

I don’t have Virgo, and I am ethically against buying water, but I am pretty anti-pop, and most of all…I am really against people who interfere in such stupid ways with each other. Who’s he, your mum??
Tons of virgo here, and of course he’s stupid. I worked as a cashier in a supermarket, and I found it interesting to see what people eat. And I tell you: I would not trade their fridge for mine in a million years (they actually EAT that?
). Maybe as an experiment it would be fun, but I like fresh food you see, not all this packaged rubbish.
I can’t stand buying bottled water. Water in my area is pretty good, and I keep a Brita pitcher to make it taste even better. I keep a few sport bottles on hand in case I need to take water with me somewhere.
I don’t drink much soda (pop), so I wouldn’t be buying that anyway… Maybe 1-2 every now and then, but that’s it. Since I’ve never had a cavity, I think that’s ok.
I was a raw foodie, vegetarian macrobiotic eater when I was a kid. Total food Nazi. There was only one store in town that sold health/organic food, and mostly really old/sick people with bowel problems and cancer went there. I was perpetually patronized for being a health nag and teased for my eating habits.
Who’s laughing how?growl!!!!
3 planets in Virgo, and Uranus in 6th house. I think that about explains it.
No Virgo in my chart, and I’m conflicted over both. I’m more inclined to say he’s the fool for ingesting soda on a regular basis, but I’m also tempted to say that bottled water is one of the biggest schemes of our time. Yes I buy it on the street, then I save the bottle and refill it with tap water. I’m all about health, but even more interested in education, soda drinker should know about the horrors of carbonated sugar water, and bottled water drinkers should know that dirty tap water is a hoax.
the water out here is HORRIBLE, so i actually have water delivered. it’s an indulgence, but one that i appreciate every single day.
and mr. smarty pants pays for his water too. it doesn’t run out of the facuet for free. he’s just paying less for a less pure product is all.
oh, i forgot to add: i’m majorly virgo.
I’ve got Venus conjunct Mercury in Virgo and I guess I don’t pay for either (tap water’s generally okay enough for me) but I definitely don’t buy soda. I’ve never even liked soda, personally, even when I was a kid. And it’s just so bad for you!
As an aside, I would advise everyone to keep from buying Fiji water as the creation of a 1-liter bottle equals about one pound of greenhouse emissions, among other things (such as contaminating 26 more liters of water). Terrifically bad for the environment.
You know, this reminds me of the time I was super ill and went up the street for a carton of (gasp) tetra-pack apple juice. This old dude made a big fuss on asking me the price, how shocking it was, what a rip-off it was, how crazy I was. As I hobbled off back home he waddled into his brand-new fancy car. I felt like asking him for a ride. What’s up with that?
Don’t need to buy bottled water as we have an excellent deep well. However, when I lived in Tucson & San Diego, I only drank bottled water. And I bring water from home to water my office plants & for drinking.
don’t drink much soda either . . . a little coffee in the AM to kick start the brain, otherwise it’s not pretty
I buy alot of bottled water, not too much soda..I love the older generation-he is wondering why in the world would one pay for water when it flows out the faucet freely.neither person is stupid just stuck in their ways
Well, tap water is nearly free… I used to joke that bottled water cost more than gas/petrol, but I’m not sure that’s the case anymore. Whatever the figures are, it doesn’t matter – if someone thinks they need something regardless of sense, they’ll pay for it.
I have only Neptune in Virgo (4th house).
I’ve had to drink bottled water since I came to live in Oklahoma – I found out within days that tap water here made me feel ill.
I used to filter tap water in England because it tased of chlorine, but not because it made me feel ill.
I guess these problems come with so-called progress. Whaen I was a small child my grandparents had to draw all their water from a pump which drew water from an underground spring.
Now THAT was what water should taste like.
Lots of Virgo. Will pay for water, $3.50 half a gallon organic milk (have been for 15 years– I get 1% for my 8 yr. old, fat-free for me)organic fruits and veggies (I go by that list by that group that says what’s worth buying organic or not). I do not keep snack foods in the house (buy a single size bag when I have a craving)and have about 1 or 2 small packs of cookies around. (It’s not food, but since we’re talking about health– I also get really good sunscreen.) I am fascinated by nutrition– I would also totally throw out junk food purchased in a moment of weakness/bigger size than neccessary and not care about the money, because I’d rather limit the damage.
I never comment on other people’s food, but my son and I do talk about good nutrition and he’s very aware. In fact, he thinks it’s so normal that he saw a lady’s cart in the checkout piled with all kinds of soda and chips and snacks and he says to her, with a friendly grin and very chatty tone, “You sure have lots of unhealthy food there, don’t you?” like he’s commenting on the weather. And thank goodness she was nice, and laughed and said, “Well, I have two teeneagers and they eat a lot of junk.” “You know,” he said, trying to be helpful, “You might want to talk to them about good nutrition…” and I was poking him a little and got him interested in something else..and explained about personal comments later–but it was very funny.
oh lord, i went to a mom-pop burger place last week, wanting a fat burger and fries, something i really rarely eat (usually eat raw but am losing obsession with rules – uranus currently squaring saturn), and they couldn’t believe i didn’t want the soda with it as a combo – a few cents cheaper, and apparently they don’t get people there who are opposed to drinking soda. basically, i went there in search of a grease bomb and wanting to eat it but was totally grossed out and uppity about the idea of drinking soda! had to laugh at myself.
Geez I’m a ditz… Forgot to add that I’ve got Virgo rising.
water bottles are made from–
“Polyethylene terephalate (PET or PETE) – Used in soft drink, juice, water, beer, mouthwash, peanut butter, salad dressing, detergent and cleaner containers. Leaches Antimony trioxide: workers exposed to antimony trioxide for long periods of time have exhibited respiratory and skin irritation; among female workers, increased incidence of menstrual problems and miscarriage; their children exhibited slower development in the first twelve months of life. The longer a liquid is left in such a container the greater the concentration of antimony released into the liquid.” (and possibly cancer according to other sources)
I know all this and I still refill my plastic bottles and drink them after they’ve been sitting in the heat. ugh.
or there’s the aluminum can…
cancer or alzheimer’s, cancer or alzheimer’s…
I’ll take both! (but diet, please) (I don’t think there’s a packaging material that causes eating disorders…)
Re: the plastic bottle thing– urban legend:
Virgo Sun here, and the answer is a given! Who would put that toxic soda in their temple????
I add high frequency drops to my purified water, so my water is even more charged. If ya want to know the company, drop me a note.
That guy should mind his own fucking business. Pardon my French.
i hav venus in virgo…d virgin. i dont think i wud ever get married…even tho i hav sun n mercury in my 7th house!!
Both choices buy into the commercial flimflam. Many bottled waters are tap in a wrap. Soda is just as you thought about saying, Elsa and what you said Satori. One health decision we made years ago was to invest in a reverse osmosis portable water filter system. I cannot drink flouride (in many water systems) and after a decade of hauling filtered water in jugs from the stores, we bought that r.o. water system. That little machine has saved us money in the longer run, and ensures we drink water we know.
Yup, we all have a perspective and the freedom to voice an opinion, or not. If fewer choose to buy the bottled anything, I say we’d all be choosing health any day.
AGRRG!! I read it wrong!!! I thought it was who less stupid, and I clicked on you. It’s been a bitch of a couple of days around here.
I don’t think it’s anyone’s business what we choose to buy. I’ve bought water in the grocery store before, because I’m thirsty and want a drink, dammit. Then I take the bottle home and use it with tap water later, but that’s none of their business either.
Note to self – no more clicking anything until you get your head clear. *head desk*
Well, we buy bottled water, and diet soda, so, I guess that makes me stupid times x 2. On the other hand, I do believe commenting on what someone is buying, eating, etc. (unless of course it is your kid), is just oh so very rude. So CD, I agree with you!
someone looking at my cart would think i’m schizophrenic anyway. i have lots of veggies and healthy food, and there are also always poptarts and junk food (for my kid).
the water here is NOT good anyway. it’s extremely hard and was ruining coffeepots about once every 3 months. i’m much happier buying water i enjoy drinking. if someone thinks i’m stupid…well, it isn’t the first time, and surely won’t be the last.
I agree with you Dorothy. I get super snarly about this…I’ve fought with my partner about this before, and the argument usually ends with me saying ‘until you start going into work for me every day and earning my money, you can button it!’
You guys are so freaky. I bet you all hide in the closet and drink Dr. Pepper. I probably have more Virgo than anyone here and I love soda! I cannot stand drinking water. Plus…I smoke.
Am I kicked out of the holier than thou Virgo club now?
((ducks))
I just had eggnog and coffee for breakfast. If I was in the mood, I’d be smoking too. PS. Togi the closet ain’t just for Dr. Pepper, wink wink ::snickers::
I eat dark chocolate every morning with my coffee… but soda no way ! Water and all kinds of health food for me thanks, virgo moon.
My middle name is Virgo, (btw) . . .
and I once worked in a supermarket checkout stand situation, too. Wow, I simply could not believe what some people buy. Incredible, especially during the holiday periods!
Is anyone like me? If I’d had a dinner or drinking party and asked most people to bring their own beverages, when everyone went home, I’d be shocked at the pile of beverage containers in the corner of the room. I would also be a little miffed that my guests had gone off and left all that crap in corner for me to deal with responsibly. (I lived abroad for a decade, and when I returned I just couldn’t believe the directions that American consumerism had gone in.)
When I was a kid, pop was sort of, well, special! You got to drink maybe 2 on a holiday, but otherwise, it just wasn’t in the house. And of course, that wasn’t for health considerations so much.
Koolaid, we got. You know, like one pitcher for the 5 of us on a summer afternoon. At least we knew it was real sugar in it. I certainly don’t think of the 50′s as the depression. We were middle class then, and doing fine.
I paid for water to get the bottles so my kids (when they were smaller) could have easy access to water with LIDS! I would for SURE pay for water if the water where we were was nasty tasting..my kids & I drink gallons of it. I also pay for soda (for the hub & myself, kids only get it on holidays & the odd times when we eat out)because I like it.
Personally I would NEVER say anything to anyone about what they are buying,, their money!
soda is nasty…
but, seriously, take a bottle, put it under the tap, and fill it… or put one of those powdered electrolyte mixes in it if i’m feeling fancy… and i’m good.
The water in our house comes from a spring and we have a big filter where it comes into the house. So yummy.
I’m on a very high sodium diet so there’s a lot of salty crap in my shopping cart, like hot cocoa mix and pretzels and bacon and kielbasa.
lol @ togi!
i’m way virgo and a member of the good health club via boot in the pants. i used to pretty much mainline dr. pepper and sugar in any and every form, all day, every day. i’d start getting anxious when we were down to less than a full box of little debbies in the house, i kid you not. but i was way fat and the doc told me i was pushing diabetes so i had a moment of enligtenment and ditched the sugar. once every few months, i have a DP, but i am careful now.
still smoke though. maybe i can join you if the closet’s big and well-ventilated enough? or we could try the garage…we can keep a fridge out there.
both of you but, yours, Elsa , is easily corrected with a water filter at home
I was going to say both, then I realized that no one here is “stupid”, just both getting what they want. He was kind of stupid to say anything about what someone else drinks thou…
And yeah, a filter would work if one wants better water…but, who am I to say?
I guess it depends on what someone is paying for the water too. I’ve seen some bottle water sell for more than a bottle of wine…lol…now that’s stupid!
Well actually the bottled water was for the gym and I take one and refill it for about a month so…
Old men who act like smartasses are often dumbasses. A nice cold glass of seltzer with a little OJ mixed in is the best kind of soda there is.
I’ve been about 95-99% organic food for about 15 years now. Don’t drink, smoke, do soda. Like good coffee though (fairtrade Nicaraguan straight from the farmer -sorry:)) and I filter tapwater. Prefer bottled but it’s too expensive to buy everyday.
I think the rest of the world is weird – why would you want to fill your body full of toxic waste and then have to spend even more money on healthcare because of it?
My son is really funny, though. He takes it all very seriously and gets quite worried when kids at school talk about going to McDonalds ‘Mummy it’s not organic, and it’s not even real food and they STILL eat it!!’ Oh the joys of Sun – Saturn.
Oh yeah. Got a bit carried away there – 2 Virgo planets and two in the 6th.
I voted ‘him’.
If I was thirsty, had only 2 pounds and went at the store I would definitely prefer to buy water rather than a man-made,toxic,highly acidic, diabetes causing substance in a can.
No Virgo ..but Moon in 6th.
The water in my area is very good so I dont usually buy

I have a similar experience but with coffee. I drink one, maybe two a day. I don’t smoke, don’t drink soda and am slender watch what I eat and walk everyday with the doggums. This is my one nutritional vice….buy EVERYONE at work comments on my coffee drinking. It’s my own fault, I tent to ‘warm’ up the coffee I’ve been nursing all day. So it looks like I drink more than I do…but the one’s who comment on it are heavy, eat unhealthy lunches and drink soda. I don’t get why they some people feel they can mention anything about my coffee drinking when it’s really nothing to them. The other side would be ‘coffee guardian angels’? Are they actually looking out for my health? Is this a good thing to have people pay that much attention to what goes in my body?
Odd…..and perplexing. Good looking out or just critical?
