Saturn In Virgo: Careful What Put In Your Mind: “Astrologers” Copying Astrologers aka Chickens In A Barnyard
Astrology in real life
I have been addressing the fear of tomorrow’s full moon over the last days because one of my friends was frozen like a deer after reading her December horoscope and some other gal actually made a video about her feeling s terror, also after reading her horoscope… and she was a Sadge! Aren’t those folks supposed to be optimistic?
Separate but related, last week Matt Drudge reported that Michelle Obama was to get a big ‘ol honkin’ ring for the inauguration. I read the story and it was detailed. For example, the ring designer (an Italian) was supposed to be working feverishly on the design of the ring to have it done in time.
The next day the story was revealed to have been fabricated but not before it had spread like wild fire… all these bloggers reporting this hot-off-the-presses news. I guess the guy who wrote the crap got a big laugh, ya think? Well the same thing happens in astrology.
Astrology really is gaining ground and popularity consequently more and more people hang out a shingle. This is true of astrology bloggers too. Not that the new astrology blogs that have been cropping up are of low quality – I think it’s just the opposite that. I think some really talented people are getting into this but here’s the point…
People do want this gig. They probably wouldn’t want it so bad if they talked to me because I would tell them I have been at it almost 10 years and still don’t get paid but they don’t talk to me. They jump in the game and maybe they aren’t all that creative. So what they do is copy someone who is successful.
Now I am not successful but the astrologer who wrote the “scare the living shit out of you” December forecast is. So people think, if this astrologer thinks the sky is going to fall, then I think the sky is going to fall. If this astrologer is warning people, then I better warn people too!
In other words, they repackage the first astrologer’s thoughts and put them out there with lots of “this may happen” language and ta da! They are now a prophet, let the money roll in!
Two more read the original forecast, they repackage, others see the four forecasts, and think jeez! I better say this too! You get the idea. The scare forecast goes out exponentially. And here’s the bit I want to get across. This was told to me by an old man (Saturn) 28 years ago. I am now the Saturn figure so I will tell you…
He told me that human beings were a lot like chickens. One starts squawking about something and the other one all join in. The chickens that join in have no idea why they are squawking. He followed this up with this line which I have never forgotten:
“Don’t ever be a chicken, Elsa.”
I listened to that guy.

Hey why is a Sagittarius supposed to be optimistic? I’m definitely not an optimistic person.
BTW I like the chicken analogy. Kind of reminds me of the people at work.
i don’t think very many people could successfully copy your blog- just too original. but when you put these ‘themes’ out there, of course some are going to regift em…but i have faith that ‘the people’ are able to see thru this kind of thing- and find the astrologers who have dedicated time, effort, analysis, and insight into their messages
Must be Susan Miller’s scopes? At least she softens the blow with “I’m so sorry to have to report this, Dear Gemini…”
This is so great.
On a side note, isn’t Michelle Obama just gorgeous?
I’m a super sag and I read the horoscope I think you’re talking about and got scareeeeeeeeeeeed too. I’ve had enough happen with Pluto for the last 13 yeras, jeez, give the saggs a break for once. I do love those horoscopes but this is the first time is was so negative. A grain of salt..
i too had an old man tell me a story much like your chicken story. glad you all talked this up cause to me it’s giving astrology a bad name. i just found this site and love it. i was so fed up with the fear factor astrology sites. i think we all know life can be tough, god knows we all feel it. i however would rather look for the best, yes i’m a sag and i thank god for it cause the fish’s is rise’n in my first. as for the scary astrology lady i’d like to add this thought, some folk have a harded time find’n the light switch in a dark room.
This reminded me of this story called Chicken Licken that I read when I was a kid at 5yo. An acorn fell on Chicken Licken’s head and he cried “Oh My Oh My the sky is falling” and then proceeded to tell the other animals. They all believed him and began to panic, trying somewhere to hide. While trying to find a hiding spot they came across a fox which knew better but decided to take advantage of the other animals fear and led them all to his den so that they would be “safe”. Haha they all then became dinner. I never did forget that story. Yep never be chicken!
I haven’t blogged for a living, but I can imagine that it’s work. ‘Cuz it’s all about fresh content. In some ways astrology is perfect for blogging, because it seems like there’s always something new to talk about. But there is no doubt in my mind that to make money blogging is a full time job and is no easy feat.

I started to try to make a blog a while back, and I realized that I was kinda following your model, Elsa. I had a different angle, I was calling it the “Boomer Astroblog” meaning I was hoping to pull in some of the older astrologers in addition to all the tons of young people you bring in here. Sometimes I feel like my Pluto in Leo generation is JUST SO QUALITATIVELY DIFFERENT from the Pluto in Virgo, Libra and Scp
…but anyway, what I saw was myself using your same style. Cuz I love how you engage people in discussions of astrology which are just not outside (not absurdly advanced) for all kinds of people to participate in.
I don’t know, I did a few days worth (without making it public or open to feedback) and I just reviewed it, and first I saw my political leftie radicalness showing through all over it, and, secondly, and among other things, I thought to myself, am I copying Elsa’s blog model?
The answer was yes, I feel. I was NOT taking your material, obviously, but I was using your style. It didn’t seem fair. The final blow was when I saw how much work it was going to be to keep up with it everyday. The creative process is fun, the everyday obligation … well … my readers would not have gotten posts every day. I’m not that consistent. Especially not if I am not getting paid well for it!
And lastly, I don’t do hate mail from strangers.
Elsa, whether that dude said that to you or he didn’t, you could never be a chicken, LOL at the very thought of it!
