I feel that I am driven. I am a hairdresser and own my own shop, have two children , and I manage to squeeze in some gym time. Once I get hold of something that I think needs doing, I have the lock-jawed tenacity of a bull dog and I don’t stop until it’s done – usually this trait has emerged in having to defend my people.

Makes me a pain in the ass, I know, (especially to some federal agency lifer employees I can think of) but a pain in the ass who produces results no matter what stands in the way. Not to brag or anything, please understand – I have paid some high prices for being so driven and had to learn some painful lessons about the negative expression of this energy – control freak and sooooo inflexible when I think I need to get my way – I’ve lost some friends being like this.

Yeah that’s been me sometimes. But I’m getting better! I’m learning how to express this element of myself in more positive ways and I kinda like that I don’t give up on stuff.

I was once described (by someone who knows what she is talking about – *smiles* Elsa P!) as a preacher/teacher ON STEROIDS, which made me laugh wicked hard because it was the truth, no two ways about it.

And the soldier’s right about what happens when someone yanks a person’s work away, leaving them with all that drive and no where to apply it – you have to figure out new ways to expend it. It’s good though when that happens because you’re forced to try new things, new approaches, it makes you get creative and look in new directions.

I was raised in a family full of strict school teachers who tolerated no fools. Now that I am occasionally called upon to teach younger people about certain cultural/spiritual things I found that I was channeling the teaching style of my grandmas, aunties and mother (“I’m the teacher here: I talk, you listen. Now be quiet and pay attention if you want to learn something good!”) It’s a cultural thing, too, that’s how a lot of Native teaching is carried out, but now I mindfully try to use gentler and kinder teaching methods and try not to talk so much!

Heather, what I’ve noticed is that in order to get anything done I (literally) have to abandon everyone… once I have people around me, any drive I might have goes out the window.

Responsibility (Saturn) weighs me down (Mars). When I begin to take others into account, I deflate (Jupiter in Aries). It’s lonely, but it works… there’s time for others later on… your case is different to mine, though; I can only imagine how hard it is to have that schism… not being able to not take others into account. I am inordinately amazed at single mothers…

i can be driven. got mars in scorpio, sextile saturn and setting off at least half my chart. it’s not constant, but once i set my mind to something, i can overcome many obstacles and exert energy over a long period of time to reach my goals. i work very hard if i feel like a goal is worthwhile.

I have always been extremely driven in adademic activities or anything involving writing, research, & statistics. Mostly writing. I could never be stopped. My greatest nightmare would be to be trapped somewhere with nothing to write with or on. Also, no matter what, its got to have my own creative touch. Most of it gets lost or destroyed anyway, so it’s definitely not about money.

Yes, Saturn Virgo but after the day I had today I feel like I should apologize for breathing. Lets just qualify today as HIGH STRESS.
