Astrology, The Mind And Communication: Mercury Trumps Pluto? Yer Crazy, Elsa P!

Astrology in real life

mercuryI started to write about Notions and the People Who Have Them but got off track. I want to get back on track because I think this is such an important topic and rarely (if ever) discussed in life or in astrology.

noâ‹…tion
/ˈnoʊʃən/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [noh-shuhn] Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun
1. a general understanding; vague or imperfect conception or idea of something: a notion of how something should be done.
2. an opinion, view, or belief: That’s his notion, not mine.
3. conception or idea: his notion of democracy.
4. a fanciful or foolish idea; whim: She had a notion to swim in the winter.
5. an ingenious article, device, or contrivance; knickknack.

Mercury which rules the mind is given far less weight in astrology then it deserves. There are exceptions to this, most notably Lois Rodden wrote a book, Mercury Method of Chart Comparison
, where she explained how important Mercury was when comparing charts to judge compatibility. Basically if there can be no meeting of the minds, the relationship is going to fail over time.

Common sense tells you this is correct and that right there ought to tell you that this planet and it’s functions are in fact undervalued because you never hear this kind of thing. Virgos and Geminis? Who needs ‘em? Mercury? Who needs Mercury when we’ve got Pluto to focus on?

Well I mean to show you that Mercury can readily take out Pluto. Who believes me?

Thank you for bringing this topic up. It made me look at my synastry with my guy. My mercury is square his venus. Does it mean I’m the one who is to blame everytime we have a communication problem?

Humm…something about this smacks of truth. I have Mercury sq Saturn with this guy. I am dying to get into his undies but we can’t talk…literally. We can both charm the pants off of everyone else except each other. Trying to just start a conversation with him is painful I don’t even bother anymore. I just lust in silence. I think this bothersome square trumps everything else that we have going for us. Ugh.

Me- Virgo Rising, Scorpio Moon… Him- Gemini Rising, Virgo moon… Both of us- Mercury and Venus in Scorpio.
We fell in love in a coffee shop over a strategy game. I made a few moves that really blew his mind.
There is a scene in the film Human Nature where Rosie Perez’ character says “you F&^# the mind, you F*#@ the mind.” I love that quote.

I’m all kinds of Mercury! Can’t wait to hear this.

If Mercury can take out Pluto, and you have Mercury-Pluto, does that mean you’re unstoppable? Or they cancel each other out? (I’m kidding.)

I do. But I think any of the seven can take out Pluto at any time.

I have natal Mercury opposing Pluto. So this is interesting…

I think Mercury is important, especially for communications in a relationship. My husband and I have conjunct natal Mercuries in the last degrees of Sagittarius. — When Pluto was retrograde between our natal Mercuries, we were having 4th generation discussions on what the other one said. It was the worst we’d ever been at understanding each other. Then I remembered transisting Pluto and let it blow over.

I guess that didn’t help prove your point. Unless, we consider my mind (Mercury) worked on the cause of the problem. We both have natal Mercury trine natal Pluto.

As for notions, my Mom commented that both Dad and my brother had problems with getting notions in their heads that weren’t right that no one could talk them out of. I commented that my daughter was the same, and by the way, they are all three Aquarians. I just checked their three natal charts. All three of them have Aquarian Mercuries (Fixed opinions!) to go with their Aquarian suns. Dad and brother have them conjunct.

Interesting subject. Thanks.

Mercury take out Pluto? Don’t make me laugh.

Anyway, I always consider Mercury in compatibility b4 Pluto because it’s a personal planet, and I tend to study all personal planets first.

However, I don’t like comparing. U need both: Mercury is conscious, deliberate thought while Pluto is subconscious impulse and intuition. They complete each other.

A partner needs to vibe with u on both levels — more so on that hidden subconscious level because that’s where the magic and chemistry are.

mercury is far mroe slippery than pluto gives him credit for. speed is a darn good defense against a precision weapon… as long as you can see it coming.

or, to say, i can out-think your manipulations.
with enough practice, anyway. it gets easier.

uh, but i have a mercury (chart ruler) in taurus opposing a uranus in scorpio so i look at all of this from quite a slant ;)

There is no question in my mind, after years of study and research, Mercury is critical. I think that the two (1 planet, 1 luminary) which are critical CRITICAL to reasonably intact mental health, not to mention smarts as well, are Mercury and the MOON.

Mercury and the moon are the planets of the ‘mind’ which goes both to happiness, mental stability, brains (right thinking versus insane/crazy thinking) and since one of my areas of expertise is mental health, I love these two planets. I first learned about the total importance of Mercury when I first took up reading James Braha, but it has just moved and developed from there over the last 6 years or so.

Hey Wyrd, I have Merc in Taur opposition also…my case it opposes Saturn in Scorp, Merc (2nd) with sun, and Saturn in 8th.
