Astrology And Pluto: Dora – Part Of The Animal Kingdom

Astrology in real life

I am always going on about feeling akin to an animal. I operate on instinct rather than intellect, as a matter of fact I am not even sure I have an intellect. Perhaps I have just a crotch and that’s all but in whatever case around here we do not deny the unseen world. We acknowledge it drives us and Dora is part of it. People who live low to the ground like this recognize each other the same way elevated people recognize each other, our lives are just a lot more gritty. (swearing below the break)

“I was lying there on the beach,” the soldier said. “I was tired and all the sudden there was thing on top me, it shocked me. It was gross. Get off me, I said. What the fuck are you?”

I stared.

“And it was Dora. Yeah, she just walked up and got right on top me. I mean, she got on my chest and started rubbing herself on it. You know how she rolls on her back on the rug and scratches? She was doing that except she was on my chest and it was disgusting. Get off me you stupid dog! Are you a dog? I couldn’t tell at first, it was just this thing on me. This gross thing… this animal. She had not hair, just a little strip of hair going down one side of her body, I couldn’t tell what she was. She was almost completely bald and not only that she was covered in scabs. Scabs, P! Her whole body was scabby.”

“Gross.”

“You’re telling me. She was the most disgusting thing and I tried to get rid of her but I couldn’t. She just wouldn’t leave me alone. She would not go, she would not get off me, she said, no motherfucker, I ain’t goin’. I’m your dog, I am your dog and I’m not leaving.”

I nodded.

“Next thing you know, I was sneaking her onto the plane. That damned dog had me pegged. She saw me and said, there he is. I’m going over and get that bastard and that’s what she did. She’s been with me since, about 13 years now, I guess. Something like that. Been with me a long time but anyway that’s how I got her. I didn’t get her, she got me.”

He was out of the country… what would you have done in this situation? I think Dora picked one in million.

You see this a lot in animal rescue. We don’t pick them – they pick us. If the dog does not ‘pick’ you, lots of times it doesn’t work out and the dog is brought back. I always compare it to how women ‘pick’ their men.

If you asked me a few years ago, I would’ve said no…I only heard of people rescuing animals from foreign places around the time of the Tsunami in 2004. For some reason I didn’t realize people could do this.
That is incredibly touching!

I would have sneaked her on the plane.

My family has a Dora, too. Our dogs are litter mates, split between us – their Mum was a rescue Cocker Spaniel who died suddenly, six months after we brought her home (she was pregnant, heartworm positive, in the pound, and in danger of being put to sleep, December of 1998). Dora was the last to be named; she got her name when we all laughed at something she did, at the same time, and said she was adorable. We then looked at each other and said “Dora!” She was my mother’s baby from the beginning.

I’ve said before, my husband thinks I’ve scent marked the house so that all the animals know where to go when they’re in trouble. Like the feral mother cat who brought me a week old sick kitten (died 3 days later but he was flea free, warm, and his belly was full). Our latest addition showed up on the front porch, meowing his 5 month old head off. “I’m dying!” he meowed. And he wasn’t lying. It was 34 degrees out and raining. He was soaked to the skin and thin as a reed. They just know where to find me and they know I cannot help but to help them.
