The Soldier And Henry: Jupiter In Sagittarius Across The Generations

Astrology in real life

henry bedA few days ago someone wrote me with a question about Jupiter in synastry. I couldn’t quite coax it into a post but I’ve come up with this… the story (Jupiter) of the unlikely connection between two men with Jupiter in Sagittarius.

My grandfather, Henry was extraordinary by anyone’s standards and as a double Capricorn with 4 planets in Sagittarius (including Jupiter and Saturn), I’d have to say he was born that way. The soldier is also extraordinary however I’d say he was born with his work cut out for him.

In whatever case these two men collided and they could not have been more distinctly different. The soldier was 19 and he was and is and always will be a soldier. He was fully of bravado, he loved to say his name… to shout it even. He loved to bang his chest and go on and on pontificating about his world view, never mind threatening to beat people up and looking for a thrill most days.

In contrast, Henry was old. He was about 80 years old and living the life of an ascetic. He slept outdoors in front of his house on what was essentially a piece of plywood, did yoga every morning before working sun up to sun down which was a regimen he maintained for 30 years. Henry was inordinately peaceful (he did not so much as raise his voice for 40 years). He was a quiet and meditative man and nowhere I was going to introduce these two men.

henry 75You might think I was headed into trouble but in fact, Henry was waiting anxiously to meet the soldier because he thought he might have knowledge that Henry needed. And though Henry had asked me to quiz the soldier, I was unable to transfer the information (too boring for me!!) so this meeting had to take place.

Last night the soldier recounted the conversation they had some 30 years after the fact and while I was surprised at the content, I was not surprised he remembered it because Henry was just one of those people you can never forget.

Have you ever known anyone entirely unforgettable? What was it about them?

pictured – that’s one of Henry’s outdoor beds being built on top saw horses. the other picture is Henry on the beach in Mexico, foot behind his head, he is about 75 years old there..

My grandfather, too, Elsa. He was the kindest soul – bird lover, pipe smoker, worked at a gas station and factory all his life. Grew up on a farm, married my grandmother with – as they say – $40 in his pocket. Loved my grandmother to no end (and she was a little wacky :) . . . he was just a good man all around. I have a feeling he was Cancer . . . gotta look at that.

Oh, yes! I have an uncle who is pushing 70 now. Big Bushy eyebrows, bum knees, looks like Ted Kennedy and is equally bombastic. He’s an ex-priest, who married and stayed home to raise three sons while his wife earned the bread and butter. He’s traveled the world using coupons and frequent fliiers. When I was a kid, he would visit and take us for ice cream cones, and if we wanted seconds he wouldn’t hesitate, thirds, he wouldn’t hesitate. Most of his siblings think he’s an oddball. But I have always admired him, and this summer, on a trip to Peru for the wedding of his youngest son, I danced the salsa with him for 1 straight hour, and he told me that people who give him grief (and many do, because he IS an oddball) are simply limited. He just keeps loving em and moves on if necessary. That conversation happened WHILE we were dancing. He had a smile on his face the whole time…

I dated a man who was unforgettable…he was likely the most kind and gentle man I ever met. He never had a bad word to say about anyone and was a master at getting people to feel at ease and calm down.
The man never, and I mean NEVER failed to inspire me emotionally.

However…he didn’t care to have sex with me (or anyone).

He went on the volunteer collecting bodies of lepers for Mother Theresa’s home for the dying in Calcutta…proof I wasn’t lying when I thought he was too nice for me? ;)

quite a few, thank goodness.

mostly, just… people who were unabashedly themselves.

and sometimes there are situations that just flow like some grand mythic story….

I like this story!! Wonderful.-
Yes, met quite a few interesting persons (unforgetable), but my grandfather, Peter, was so remarkable: kind, kind and lovely ;-)
