The Soldier And P And Einstein And His Brain

Astrology in real life

einsteins_brain_lancet.jpgLast night in the bathtub the soldier and I were talking about Einstein and his brain. We were talking about his remark around the idea a person should be able to explain something to a small child if they really understood it and soldier who has studied Einstein extensively said that he himself failed at this.

“Yeah, he tried it. He tried to explain things to the kids in his family but they didn’t know what the hell he was talking about. They just acted like they did because their parents told them to.”

I laughed but here was the interesting thing…

“So why not clone him?” I asked. “Surely they’ve got his DNA from his brain.”

“Yeah but what good is that going to do? So you’ve got Einstein’s brain. Big deal. It’s not Einstein.”

“Now why is that?”

“Because the brain doesn’t matter, its the person. The brain is just a tool. It’s this,” he said putting his hand on his heart. “It is the person. It is the souuuuuuuuul. It is the soul that is using the brain – That’s the only things that counts. The brain doesn’t mean squat…”

Now if you think about that (with your brain) it makes a good case for expending energy toward improving and developing your soul. And in the times I figure we’re headed for (Pluto in Capricorn), a high grade soul can only help.

There was a young adult book waaaaay back in the day (when I was actually a pre-teen) called Anna to the Infinite Power that played with this concept. I wish I could find a copy of that book, it was really good.

***Spoiler***
In short, Anna was a clone of a tremendously talented musician who lived in the Nazi concentration camps. When Anna hit puberty, she started having strange memories, etc. and was whisked away to a “hospital” where she discovered that many of the girl patients were just like her…and they all found out that they were clones. However, when puberty hit, they began to individualize — even though they were clones, they were also themselves, and became individuals none of which were exactly like the original.

Yup. Furthermore, there is a new evidence in the field of neurocardiology of your heart acting like a brain, in its own right.
And here’s a link to an interesting article if anyone is interested:

Carielle, I remember that book. Have you tried http://www.abebooks.com (worldwide network of secondhand booksellers) to find it?

I like what the soldier said as an argument against facile ideas about cloning. Sigh, I’m hoping I can learn to explain things to small children soon.

Not only does this raise an interesting point about the nature of cloning, and a lot of people’s misplaced fears about it… there’s something terribly Libra about lounging around in the tub with your partner, discussing bioethics. :)

Elsa the powder-puff? *snert* :D

Yah, cloning for personality is probably close to impossible. Otherwise, wouldn’t identical twins act exactly alike as well?

Whoa, I knew that the Soldier was smart, but I didn’t know that he was wise!

knowledge vs wisdom: I’ll take wisdom anyday.
DNA and cloning: If everyone on this blog site was given the exact same recipe for apple pie, the exact same ingredients (pillsbury flour, arm and hammer baking soda, morton salt) cooked it in the same brand of oven, no two pies would come out exactly alike, very close perhaps but not exactly alike.
DNA the ingredients, cloning the finished product
Edison never stopped asking WHY

The Soldier and Einstein. Did you know that Einstein’s wife name was ELSA and his daughters name was Ilsa?
