Open Question: “Behind Every Success is a Pack of Haters” Can You Fill In The Astrology?
Ask the collective
“Behind Every Success is a Pack of Haters” .
Someone mentioned this quote to me today which believe it not, I’d never heard before so I had to consider it. Does success breed hate? I guess it does. How many people hate Bill Gates? How many people (still) love Oprah? But this is baffling (to me) on an astrological level.
Jupiter rules success so where is the tie between Jupiter and hate, hmm?
Please tell me if you know and outside of that do you agree with the quote? What have you seen or experienced?

i’d never heard the quote, but i’ve seen the phenomena, at least on an individual level. i’ve never understood it, though. ’cause it’s not like success is a limited commodity. i find others’ successes encouraging to me. if they can do it, i probably can, too.
don’t think it would tie into their jupiter so much, but i don’t know the astrology. maybe if jupiter were poorly aspected with something that ties into resentment or jealousy?
First, instinctive answer: Jupiter is the king. Around every ruler is a pack of would-be overthrowers, held in check by some sort of agreement, strategy, bargain, fear, etc. So I don’t think that success breeds hate, I think success and envy/competition (I think that’s what “haters” means in the quote) can’t exist without each other.
I think success can breed hate. But like Elsa pointed out, not many people hate Bill Gates, Oprah, and so on. Sure they are filthy rich and successful, but they both give back and seem highly likeable. Then there are those like Donald Trump who you have to wonder if they are really good people or just all about the $$$ and prestige. I think those are the ones who get “hated” on, the ones who seem to look down on those less fortunate. Obviously I don’t know Mr. Trump, but that’s just the impression I get of him.
I think the key to not having people hate on you or your success is to remain humble.
I guess I believe that success should benifit others. This is the Jupiter principle of abundance and shareing. Jupiter shares some qualities with Pluto, so this may be where the haters part. So I think if someone seems unnaturally selfish in there successes there will definately be a pack of haters behind every success. Either that or a pack of ass kissers. So its not entirely a bad thing. There is a saying about, don’t be the prettiest or the smartest, or the most successful, because of this reason/(can’t recall the exact words).
I have Jupiter (ruling the MC and co ruling the AC) in the fifth house in cancer conjunct within 1 degree of Uranus (ruling the 12th). The more success I have ever had, the more enemies. And wow, wow, wow, have I ever had some enemies and some hate directed at me and linked to my career successes. Hmmmmmmm.
shell, LOTS of ppl hate Bill G. and Oprah. I don’t think it matters to some whether they seem nice or not.
goddess – that’s what I thought. I thought Bill and Oprah were routinely hated but I think shell thinks what she thinks because she is not a hater herself.
It is sort of like being honest and thinking others are also honest. I get caught by that one alllll the time.
I think that there is a saturation point that once you reach it with people, they “hate” you. Oprah has done a lot of good in the world but ya know what? I’m sick of her. I have reached my saturation point with her. I don’t hate her or anyone else, but I’m sick of her and a lot of other people that are in the news all the time. It’s like I can’t see their authentic goodness anymore, they just become annoying talking heads.
“It is sort of like being honest and thinking others are also honest.”
Elsa, you hit the nail on the head. I think it’s my ultimate downfall
I think it can be a minority complex. The fact that someone is successful and then caters for their ‘general’ audience there are some who fall outside of that demographic or audience mould. It is those peopple who may tend to feel alienated, left out and have something to “hate” as you say Elsa.
People are rebellious too by knocking the tall poppies, the opposite position might make them feel different from the masses.
Unless its about competitiveness, but who in their right mind would compete against Oprah?
k
What’s the other old saying? Of all the people you meet and know, 1/3 of them really like you, 1/3 of them do not like you at all and 1/3 of them do not care one way or the other?
And I believe that many people subconsciously determine their own success by comparison. Sometimes one man’s success can make another man feel like a failure. The blow to the ego can look an awful lot like hate, even though there is no relation at all.
Minority complex sounds right. Also Jupiter in the negative can be overzealous, self-indulgent, brash, showy. . .that whole psychological inflation thing.
It might breed a hater.
About Bill Gates, I know a number of people who have worked with him in the external/public sphere and find him to be rude and egotistical. Period. Those are the “personal” haters.
I too have never heard that quote. However, if I were to theorize I would say that the success breeds hate because the people become public and so do the “haters” It is played out on the public stage. If you are to look to your immediate circle of people there are people who “hate” you for various reasons but because the group is small the number of people is small.
I would guess that the Jupiter aspect is to blow this whole picture up onto the larger stage. So you then become more aware of the enemies. They are less hidden and more public and larger in a sense.
Just my theory.
In Russia there is a saying ‘the tallest wheat gets the scythe’, and although that country has a unique history and is therefore likely to be more prone to this kind of thinking, sometimes it is not good to be so successful that you draw attention to yourself. Sometimes when people are successful their egos inflate to such a degree that it does cause others to dislike them.
I like seeing success in others. As Stuart Wilde says ‘Success is the best revenge’ but I do not like people that boast about their success. There is another funny saying; ‘He patted himself on the back so hard that he broke his arm’
On the other hand, [Pisces and Libra], I have met some very kind, thoughtful and generous people who share their wealth and success with others.
I don’t love Oprah or hate Bill Gates. But Oprah earned her success by being liked and Bill Gates earned his by being the best businessman he could possibly be, leaving some people behind who lost the game he was playing. I have no particular judgement about that either — just the nature of their jobs – one makes friends, the other makes enemies.
Jealousy, essentially. Jealousy over someones success, jealous that it was someone else & not them, jealous because they already cant stand that *&)(* and then something good happens to them! You get the idea here.
Personally, I dont get jealous of other peoples successes. I dont hate Bill Gates or Oprah.. dont worship them either.
In my former field, it was always about competitiveness, there is that highly coveted thing called tenure…only a certain number of people hired will get it…the others get weeded out one way or another. Five universities and I never even made it to 3rd year (halfway)-tenure review LOL.
Heather M. makes a valid point about over-zealousness, and I can Definitely be that way about certain things. In fact my field called for it, it is a field that is supposed to be slanted in a specific direction. Being over-zealous was Usually not usually the main problem, although it did play a role at one university. I do admit it. (But I don’t regret it).
Brash and showy, I don’t know, shy Pisces rising does not seem too conducive to brash and showy but maybe I was and didn’t see it. Anyway, one of my worst open enemies played the freakin guitar in the graduate classroom (creepy, supposedly inspirational songs he made up, can we say brash and showy?) and our field was not music, oh yea, and same dude told an entire classroom of grad students that I have a mood disorder. This really happened.
Another esteemed colleague told an entire classroom that I am psychotic. This really happened. I mean, even if I was ill, can you guys see it as appropriate to announce that to an entire classroom? Talk about hate. I had told the truth, and they were trying to discredit me you see.
And another esteemed colleague spent a good 15 minutes of every class session she taught bad-mouthing each of her non-tenured colleagues. I don’t know, is that self-indulgent or is that just….zero class?
Just cause you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they are not out to get you…yes, my chart engenders enemies with and without my help. Pluto rules 8th in 6th, sun rules 6th in 2nd conj. merc partile opp saturn in 8th. Teacher.
Loonsounds- Wow! How did you manage to find yourself in the same room with all of those nasty poeple?
Bruce Cockburn sang ‘ I wish I had a Rocket Launcher. [For years I thought he said. 'I wish I had a broken lawnchair!'] I hope that you can get a laugh out of this.
Spinner, hey, thanks for the joke,
Yes, wow. It was all wicked. It was meant to be I guess, it was the turning point in my life, and it was even worse than anything I have said. Just for example, at one point in a faculty meeting the guitar playing dude got up and jammed his finger in my solar plexis and said “You better watch out.” Everyone else just sat there and said nothing (or, the former department chair, female, walked out, the new acting department chair (a man) just sat there and witnessed it).
There is a book in it because I refused their legal settlement as it would have forced me to be gagged and I would have never been allowed to write one word about it. I think they all think I fell off the planet when I went to India for a while. A shock will come when I rise up again with a book about what happened!
Higher education is not for the faint of heart. One mistake some universities make, in my opinion, is that they let tenure track faculty see other tenure track faculties student evaluations. At that last university where all hell really broke loose, man those students loved me there. My ratings, from students, were highest in the dept. which made me horrendously unpopular with my colleagues, see how that works?
I do think it shows up in the chart and it was at the time of the Taurus stampede which triggered my T-square of Sun/Merc in Taur in 2nd opposite Saturn in Scorpio the 8th, square the Moon in Leo.
I also had some indications (even beyond the usual) of problems in speech. Pluto was exactly opposing my 3rd house Mars in Gemini.
