laughing is good for youThe soldier and I on the phone…

“Well, P, I am going to try to be a good man for you. I am really going to try.”

“Yeah, like what? What does that mean?”

“You know. I am going to try to learn… not make the same mistake twice. Stuff like that.”

“Well then what am I going to do?” I asked.

Bootle. You’re going to continue to bootle, you’re already good.”

“Yeah, that’s what I was thinking.”

He roared.

“Well I am good,” I said. “I am sorry but I already think I am very good.”

He laughed and laughed and I just stood there on the phone because laugh all you want, these things are facts! He finally quit laughing.

“Okay, P. Just get out the silver polish and polish every now and then maybe?”

“Uh… okay I guess.” I didn’t know what the hell he was talking about. I relate to GOLD not silver. “Yeah, maybe I will but more likely you better wait until I live 40 more lives or something. Wait until I am old. Old like you and maybe I will find out I’m not as good as I think I am because as a matter of fact, right now I think I am just fine.”

More laughing and I had to just sit there bewildered, wondering what might have struck him as funny.

I am not sure about the soldiers situation Elsa however I had an ex double virgo wife who helped me greatly. After doing groups and courses and diets and attidunal stuff I thougjt I had achieved something wonderful for myself. I had. Trouble was, in the process I forgot about myself, I was tuning into what my (obsessed) ex wife wanted me to be. Everytime I got “improved”, she would need to find another thing in me to fix. Its like I was never going to be “just right” for her. It was like I was never going to just “be me”. I was on a please her journey to a perfect kind of hell.

it sounded funny to me. i bet you said it pretty matter of fact. as if it were the most normal thing.

women don’t tend to admit being “pretty good” in our culture. in my experience. as if one is expected to be self critical. strange strange strange.

at least, to me, it sounded surreal enough to be humorous.
