Wow, I wrote that!! I’m the “over 50″ commitment phobic woman. You were so right about me – I do have a hard time admitting I have needs – I’ve always been an “I’ll do it myself” person. So I had to admit I have a need for a partner – and I am still with the same man. We both have a Venus Uranus conjunction so we both have the urge to commit combined with the fear of commitment – and it is also in our combined chart. We also both have “homebody” suns (Taurus and Cancer) and “freedom loving” moons (Aquarius and Sagittarius). We haven’t even discussed living together even though we’ve been dating well over a year. We see each other a few times a week and every weekend, but I’ve only slept over twice. We do holidays and family events like birthdays together with our families. We sign cards from both of us. We’re going on vacation together next summer – already booked!! When my brother had a stroke, he was right there to drive me to the hospital. He is absolutely wonderful to me and spoils me rotten. But it’s like we’re afraid to put it out there on the table and identify what it is we have – like that might spoil everything. Still, even though there’s no real verbal agreement, we’re both comfortable with the thought that we’re together and know neither of us is going anywhere. We both own houses and have pets to consider – and my son shares my house with me. If we were to combine our lives, it would be complicated right now. I did, however, sit down with my son late last year and discuss selling my house and what he would do if that should happen, so the thought has been on my mind. I love the man dearly. I feel very comfortable with him. We have common goals and values. And for a couple of grandparents, we have a real spark between us that seems to get stronger as time goes by. Yep, I’m still a little scared, but now I’m not afraid he’s leaving. We’re just figuring it out as we go along. When I met him I’d already decided I was going to grow old alone. He was a wonderful surprise – serendipity – and I’m thankful for every day that he’s in my life.

Kathy, I’m really happy for you that you’ve found this love. Some people don’t bother defining their relationships, not because they are scared, but because they don’t find it necessary.

Just because X amount of relationships get defined in these terms (especially heterosexual ones) doesn’t mean we all have to do the same thing or follow similar paths.
(I’ve got Uranus on my Midheaven opposed my Sun, so I’m used to taking flack for doing my own thing).
I’d say never worry about explaining to people what you’ve got. You’ve got love and you appreciate it and that is enough for both you and your partner to enjoy and sustain your relationship–as well as promote its growth.

Congrats again and again–this relationship may have been a *surprise* but the truth is YOU evoked its spirit and it came to you to bless your life. Yay!
