Astrology And The Generations: From Horoscope for the New Millennium by E. Alan Meece

Outtakes and various other sundries…

This is enormously interesting:

THE GENERATIONS FROM A TO Z

It’s an excerpt from “Horoscope for the New Millennium” by E. Alan Meece.

From the intro…

Meece writes:

“People who are born and grow up in roughly the same period of history share many characteristics. Their attitudes are formed by common experiences…”

He goes on to outline the generations – here’s a sample:

“The flaming wits,” 1898-1904 (Generation T-b) (Uranus in Sagittarius opposite Pluto in Gemini; Neptune in Gemini and Cancer) Many revolutionaries come from this group, along with many free-wheeling spirits. They were the “flaming youth” of the roaring 20s. Quite irrepressible, they made great actors and writers. Examples: Louis Armstrong, Humphrey Bogart…”

Or how about this:

“The rebels without a cause,” 1930-35 (Generation V-b) (Uranus in Aries square Pluto in Cancer; Neptune in Virgo) This is an unpredictable, sometimes wild and explosive group that provided the leaders of the “Beat Generation.” They make innovative, caring leaders, but often lack specific goals and are insecure or unsure of their direction. It is the first generation born after Pluto’s discovery, so it and succeeding groups are sometimes less wedded to ancient traditions. Examples: Marshall Applewhite, Mario Cuomo, James Dean, Michael Dukakis, Mikhail Gorbachev…”

I laughed out loud at his description of Gen X-b’ers. I was born in ’73.

Absolutely! That’s a wonderfull description. My parents were of the generation “Rebels without cause” My brothers and me the sixties cynical Xa generation (I could add: slightly brutal) techno punks. I remember with some delight when my father narrated his scorpio-sun & sadge moon adventures we (my brothers and I) were shooting with a sonorous one ” …and there IS HE: the ALWAYS lonely rebel” with loud laughs.

Techno punk seems pretty appropriate.

1982. undisciplined and unfocused? hey, fuck you, man. what crap. did he not look beyond the furtherest planets, and see that jupiter in scorpio and saturn & pluto together in libra (followed with saturn in scorpio) around that time? if anything, the 1982-84 babies are “unfocused” with all of their sagittarius is because they were barely teenagers at the time of this book’s on-sale date. further, i find my closest generation incredibly conventional and consumer-minded, afraid to say anything about anything, afraid to look different or try new things, hardly the “explorers” or boasting sagittarius types they’re made out to be by decrepit cookbook astrologers. snore. this guy needs to re-think the late 70s and 80s children now that they’re in their 20s.

the lack of political leaders comment is also ridiculous, considering uranus/neptune/pluto alone won’t do anything more than describe the tone of someone’s job title without some other aspect. i’d think with mars in libra in 1982, possibly conjunct saturn and/or pluto, these guys “might” have a strong interest in politics. stupid…

I loved that!
I’m from Explorers 2 – sounds like a spaceship LOL

I liked the description: unfocused but mature. Storytellers, philosophers, yes, I agree :)

These are exactly the descriptions I would use if I was inclined to make sweeping generalizations. June makes a good point– hard to judge a plethora of individuals by the effects of a few large planets.

But then again, that’s what the outer planets are for! ;-)

Oh, and annoyingly, I don’t get to be in a group. I was one of those weird retrograde situations: Uranus and Neptune in Sag, Pluto in Scorp. Maybe that means I can pick which sandbox to play in. *grin*

yes.
i also see it in my grandparents, my great grandparents, my siblings, my parents (their siblings) my son, the various tendencies of gen X-ers older and younger than I (and of, course, Gen Yers too) who are my friends….

only in generalized tendencies, but they’re there.

“benevolent entrepreneurs?” Eek. I think “obsessed with their own goals” accurately characterizes the generation growing up after the Iraq War. There is apathy and a lack of a sense of community in youth culture. This lack of awareness has to change. I’m kind of stoked about the new Age of Aquarius.

I find this to be kind of funny because, well, I was born in 1987 AND I thought I should let everyone know that astrology is actually off by 23°. My Neptune is in 6° Capricorn? Oh PLEASE! I am more of a spiritual-minded type of person who is always thinking of new ideas, not someone who dreams of material matters and just has one thing set in stone. Neptune is in 13° Sagittarius, Pluto in Libra….hmm, that makes me a GenXd person. This could also explain why some of my friends (two who were born in mid 1988-89) frown at me if I don’t have a job and tell me I should set up some goals, hence their Neptunes are in Capricorn.
