Jesse the Sagittarian: big, Bigger, BIGGEST

mini oreos bagSagittarians and others with Jupiter prominent are always threating to expand. Jesse and I were on each on a crosstrainer…

“I keep eating cookies by the bag, Jesse. The bagog. I eat a whole bag of cookies.”

He laughed loudly, he always does.

“Yeah, it’s those mini oreos doing me in.”

“I like the Vanilla Wafers,” he said looking down at his stomach. “Love those things.”

“Yeah, well I eat the whole bag. A whole bag of cookies and then I sit there all grinning. I can feel the sugar all over my teeth. Whole mouth full of sugar and I’m all hopped up like a kid all smiling over the cookies I’ve just had. You know when you’re a kid and you’ve just had a bunch of sugar? It does make you smile but now look at me. What should I do, do you think? How can I stop eating cookies, what can I do?”

“Keep working out, Elsa. I guess you better just stay on the crosstrainer for the rest of your life.”

“You too,’ I said. “We need 8 days in a week to undo all the damage.”

“I know it. Don’t think I don’t know it,” he said, laughing like Santa Claus.

On that, we both shook our heads and went back to the task at hand.

Anyone else aware of their tendency to over-indulge? How do you counteract it?

I do all the time, but have no big Jupiter… I blame Cancer Mars and my desire for comfort.

But my ex? Sadge moon. He’s huge to begin with, but always wants more of everything, from food to trinkets.

The only way I stopped my sugar habit was going cold turkey on most carbohydrate foods. Five years ago I had all the signs of metabolic syndrome; high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high triglycerides and high blood sugar. After losing almost 100 pounds, most of this is in the normal range. For me, sugar just feeds on itself – I never reach the point of satiation. Low calorie diets always left me starving because they had too many starchy/sweet foods allowed. It wasn’t until I started eating a basic “meat and vegetables” diet that I was able to both lose weight and not be starving. I found it hard to believe I was dieting when I sat down to a grilled steak with saut©ed mushrooms, a green salad with ranch dressing, bacon, avocado, and broccoli with cheese sauce. No potato, no bread, no rice, no pasta. These things all make me hungry – when I eat them I notice the difference in my appetite. Every time I stray from this program I start to gain weight, so I guess it’s a good thing I like meat and veggies.

So my advice – and it’s a hard road to travel – is “If you don’t start, you won’t over-do”. It’s the only thing that works for me.

I have outsmarted myself by mixing Kashi Heart to Heart cereal and Ghirardelli semi-sweet chocolate morsels. My mouth thinks that it is eating chocolate chip cookies, but in reality it’s good for me. ;-)

I have a sick addiction for good quality chocolate. I just can’t stop eating them! I have a weakness for chocolate with coconut as well.. My Jupiter is in Virgo in 5th in my natal chart.

How I counteract this? A LOT of physical activity! Having an Aries Sun and Ascendant naturally drives me to physical activity. I train for races (currently working on Half marathon training) and I occasionally weight train, yoga, and attend dance classes (for creativity since I am a creative).

That’s how I counteract my chocolate addiction ;)

Thanks for that reminder, Kathy. That’s been my experience too. It takes about 3 days of serious withdrawal symptoms, then I forget why I even liked sugar. (But it’s still easy to get back on the stuff.)

This will be how I ring in Pluto-in-Capricorn. Out with the sugar!

I need to quit sugar also. I am dreading it – it was my very first addiction and has lasted my entire life. I used to eat Kool-aid mix, lemonade mix, even Tang powder. I would put sugar on my ice-cream.
I guess I have to give up carbs also? I would kill right now for a big squashy piece of white italian bread slathered with grainy honey from Sicily. Or marmalade. Or raspberry preserves.

Yes, I have a million cavities.

“I am like a kid for sweet things. And by the way, why don’t you ever have a pudding at your tablydott (table d’h´te), Mr Schomberg? Nothing but fruit, morning, noon and night. Sickening! What do you think a fellow is – a wasp?” ~Victory, by Joseph Conrad

i focus on the chocolate craving. one bit of really really good dark dark chocolate with lots of chocolate mass and cocoa butter and not so much butter, milk, and sugar goes a really long way. a lot farther than chocolate chip cookies.

so, i focus down hard on what i’m really craving and ignore extraneous stuff. still a lot of calories, but i make every single one count! ;)

I’m a yo-yo over-indulger.
To counteract it, I yo-yo work-out.

Bad thing, I know.

I have jupiter in my first house so yeah, I know how you feel. I don’t have a sweet tooth but…I like salt & crunch & carbs so…tater chips and fries are my weaknesses.

Jupiter rising in Cancer… Hell, yes, I over-indulge! In everything, really, but mostly with food.

I’ve learned that the best method for me is food journalling plus a restricted calorie diet (slightly over my basal metabolic rate) combined with about an hour and a half of exercise a day (30 min cardio the rest weights). And, since I’m a hedonistic eater, I don’t fight my cravings. I just eat less of whatever it is I’m craving – otherwise I’ll eat, say, an apple when I want pasta. Then yogurt, then half a sandwich, and so on and so on because I want pasta, dammit, and nothing else will do! And I end up eating way more calories than if I would’ve just had some ramen sprinkled with parmesan in the first place. :)

Eventually my body tells me to stop. Like when the holidays roll around and after 3 days of sneaking leftover pie after 10, I’m sitting there trying to work with my eyes rolling back in my head and all I want is MORE PIE.

I go on a semi-vedge diet to try and undo the damange, and I run every day with my dogs. It’s interesting though, that I can’t get out of my “string bean body” mentality from childhood where I ate whatever I wanted and still got asked if I was anorexic.

Those days are GONE and I’m looking more like my chubby Italian grandma (she’s gone too :( ) every day.
