Six weeks ago… the soldier and I having a chat.

“So what do you think we’re doing with all this?” I asked.

“Well, P, it’s obvious to me we’re training up for something,” he said.

‘Training up?” I asked, thinking it must be something Special Forces guys do before a mission. “Training up, huh? I like that term. That phrase.”

“Yep, we’re training up for something that’s for sure. Don’t know what it’s going to be but it’s bound to be something because just look at all we’ve learned to do in these last months. We didn’t know how to do any of this 6 months ago… 9 months ago. Now look at us. We’re getting damned good, P. We’re getting good at all kinds of stuff.”

I stopped to think. I thought the concept of ‘training up” was powerful and thought I should share it on my blog so I worked to burn it to my hard drive. “Okay, so we’re in training. I like that. Any idea what we’re going to do? What are we going to be doing with this?”

“Don’t know, P. But I’m sure everything we’re learning now is going to part of whatever it is. Otherwise why would we be getting all these new skills?”

“I don’t know. I haven’t got anything else to say. Just the way you put this is enormously empowering. It’s a good way to view whatever you’re going through in your life. You’re being trained so you can pull off future tricks,” I said.

“Well that’s what I think. And no training is ever wasted. It all comes in handy eventually if you get out there and do what you’re supposed to do in life and we’re the type who do. We live, P. So I’d say we’re getting ready to do some more living, wouldn’t you?”

“Can’t argue,” I said. “Wonder what it’s going to be.”

“Well I think it will be big when it does get here. We’re both impatient as hell but I can’t imagine this intense of training for this amount of time and there not be something big coming up. We’re not learning all this for nothing, there’s just no way.”
